The whole of the Dordogne is rich with medieval châteaux,  the famous prehistoric grottes Lascaux or Peche Merle further south.  It is a beautiful area with rolling countryside, fields full of sunflowers, local markets full of delicious locally grown produce...and of course, the many wines of the region...Pécharmant, Bergerac, Monbazillac and Cahors. The Owner Recommends

The Châteaux, river, prehistorique caves, food and wine

The Dordogne is rich with medieval Châteaux, prehistorique caves, locally grown food and wine. Each village has a local market and there are many vineyards to visit. Canoeing down the Dordogne and much more. There is something for everyone!
Local market days in Villereal are Wednesdays and Saturdays, and Thursdays in Monpazier, both offer large variety of local fresh products, in colorful historical settings!
In addition, you can enjoy magret de canard, fries, homemade, at a local farm 5 minutes away, at very reasonable prices, every wednesday lunch! There is also every Friday evening a large selection of farm products served at another local farm, all under the harmony of a band.
There is a multitude of restaurants in Monpazier, 5 minutes away, or many others 10 minutes away, serving a wide variety of food, the Périgourdine cuisine rated the most popular in France!
We recommend a day trip canoeing down the Dordogne river, renting the canoes from La Roque Gageac, gently downriver past historic chateaux at Beynac and Castelnaud, swimming and picnicking along the way on this beautiful river!
We also recommend day trips to visit prehistoric caves at Pech Merle, and Lascaux, both amazing in revealing paintings of prehistoric man and his environment!
The region is known as having 1000 chateaux , many are well worth visiting, like Castelnaud and Biron one km away from the house, maybe before the chateau and its many local producers serve delicious food in the chateau courtyard on Thursday evenings!
For sports, there are tennis courts 10 minutes away, golf courses about 20 minutes away, horse riding 5 minutes away, and many paths for trekking and cycling! and of course swimmin in the large private pool.
