|Why this location?||The area is very tranquil and possesses so much natural beauty, yet the location in a hamlet is not isolated and larger towns are readily accessible. We are close to a picturesque canal and river and you can readily go out for a walk or cycle ride. Marie often goes out on long walks in the area and rarely sees anyone whilst out. There are super opportunities to eat out in traditionally French rustic style or for more formal dining and we have many recommendations to offer having personally sampled those we consider to be the best. We will be on hand to offer advice or answer questions, but will remain discreet unless called upon.|
|Unique benefits of property||Cassofiel Log Cabin (next to Le Raphael) is the perfect place to relax & rejuvenate. Many guests have opted for the services available & have found them to be highly beneficial, relaxing and enjoyable. Cassofiel, launched in 2015 is Marie's Log cabin. Here on offer are a range of treatments and well being programmes including Reiki, Pilates, Aromatherapy, Meditation, Aquatherapy, Personal Fitness, Life coaching & Personal Development. These can be requested during your stay & can be tailored to suit.
The locale is perfect for cyclists too and If you are 'house hunting', we are geographically well positioned. September and October were glorious months. We are also registered with specialist sites for accommodation for outdoor activities such as walking and birdwatching.
There is an award winning Boulangerie/Patisserie at St Severin that sell the most wonderful cakes, both to look at and to eat! Once tempted, you will be back for more. Restaurant Lavieille Maison is a short walk. St Severin is 1.5km with a Spar shop and Cafe/restaurant. Restaurant Le Pitaud at Pallaud is not far. Riberac 11km, a bustling market town with a great atmosphere and famed Friday Market. Aubterre 10km, has won awards as one of the prettiest villages in France. Sit in the square with a drink or fine dining at Hostellerie du Perigord and Taps at La Taverne, plus a host of other good bars and restaurants. Brantome 35km, Venice of the north. Very attractive with lots of good restaurants. Perigueux 40km, the capital with the old town and architecture. A visit to St Emilion is a must, it is full of charm and character and makes for a splendid day out with a lunch at one of the many restaurants. Or visit a Wine cave and amble down the cobbled streets. The Cognac houses of the Charente are close enough for an easy days visit as are the cave paintings at Villars, (close to Brantome). The Dordogne valley with its numerous prehistoric sites are a long days outing. Lac Jemaye is a huge fresh water lake with swimming beaches and pedalos and hectares of forest walks. There is no charge to access the lake and facilities and picnics are recommended. There are canoes and Kayaks for hire locally - a really fun way to potter down the river.
The hosts Marie and Neil were lovely and made us feel really at home to the point where we were invited to Marie's birthday party! The accomodation was small, dark and damp unfortunately. However it was also cold which helped when the weather was really hot. The bed was very comfortable. Didn't like the outside kitchen as the plates etc were always wet in the morning and never sure what had been in the cupboard with the plates and cutelry. Didn't like having to 'bag' toilet paper instead of flushing. To remote for us but great pool and hosts.
I wouldn't recommend our gite but from speaking to other guests the other property sounded very good
In contrast we have had many positive reviews over 6 years. The studio has a focus on outside living, i.e., the summer kitchen and courtyard area. We did appreciate the comments regards our hosting skills.
There is an extractor fan in the bathroom, but If regular showers are taken without opening any windows or doors, (due to a fear of spiders) and so inadequate ventilation, there will naturally be condensation, the solution is to open windows and doors.
The studio space is well insulated, it stays cool, highly beneficial which guests have appreciated. There is good lighting available for use in each area.
This was mid-September, so becoming autumnal and dew in the mornings, for wet plates a quick rinse with hot water is the simple solution.
In rural France fosse septiques can require mechanical assistance, which can cope with toilet paper, but due to previous instances where restricted objects have been flushed it has led to blockages, hence time, cost.
The low score for local amenities may have been due to limited language skills, resulting in a lack of adventure. It is the simple beauty of the area, bars, restaurants, markets and local towns that people decide to come. It is rural France, quiet, but with a great many towns and attractions nearby, such as Brantome, 'the Venice of Périgord', Aubeterre, Perigeux, Cognac; Costa del Sol it is not. If any doubts/concerns had been communicated we would have been pleased to suggest alternatives and make a suitable refund.
