|La Varenne Farmhouse Gîte||Self Catering||4||10||3|
We fell in love with this lovely original stone farmhouse in 2006. We renovated the house, then the barns to create a 'maison des amis', then we moved in! Having 'down-sized' we now have a beautiful, comfortably furnished home available for friends, family and guests.
Beautiful, spacious 4-bedroom farmhouse sleeps up to 10 adults in four spacious, airy bedrooms. Three of the bedrooms have double or king size beds, and the fourth bedroom has four full-sized single beds. We also have a double clic-clac bed and single futon to enable flexible sleeping arrangements.
Very family-friendly, we have stair safety gates, high chairs, cots, a pool fence and lots of moveable shade.
The house is set in a private, quiet courtyard, and unmanicured gardens. There's a terrace with dining for up to 12, and a lovely barbecue area and picnic table across the courtyard.
The large heated in ground pool is set in the garden, with a terrace, pool deck and lots of sunbeds and seating.
We've tried to equip the large breakfast kitchen with everything we'd lke to find, so there's everything from a food processor and pastry board for people who like to cook, to serving dishes and glasses for people who like to open and serve!
There are facilities on the ground floor, and two bathrooms, both with showers, one with a large bath.
The large lounge has lots of comfortable seating, a tv, dvd and access to UK free to view channels.
Set in the stunning Dordogne countryside, it's perfect for families and friends. On the edge of a peaceful rural hamlet, rather than the middle of nowhere, the gîte is a 5 minute walk to the local café-bar, 5 minutes drive from the nearest supermarket, service station; boulangerie and chemist, and only 40 minutes from Périgueux, the regional capital.
La Varenne is a relaxing getaway, perfect for families and friends, or those who like a little more space. We feel very lucky and hope we can welcome you!

John and I fell in love with La Varenne the first time we visited in January 2006. John's Scottish and I'm from Yorkshire.

We renovated the farmhouse, then the barns to create a 'maison des amis'. In true Grand Designs fashion, we moved into the barn, and now have a beautiful 4 bedroomed farmhouse available to welcome friends, family and guests.

We speak French and English. We're happy to help guests with reservations, recommendations and information, please just ask!

|Why this location?||The Dordogne is really beautiful. La Varenne is on the edge of a tiny hamlet - rather than the middle of nowhere - so we're close to all the fabulous things France has to offer, and the convenience of towns a short drive away.|
|Unique benefits of property||It's really lovely, and a home form home for families and friends who want to holiday together, and have the space and amenities to welcome everyone comfortably. We're still learning, but have tried to include everything we'd like to find ourselves.
Guests love the heated swimming pool and little guests also love feeding the chickens!
The 'Little Venice of the Périgord" is beautiful, with restaurants, bars, shops, Roman and Renaissance buildings, prehistoric church, canoeing - far too much to list!
Stalactites, stalagmites and cave paintings.
A fresh water lake with beach, canoeing, pedals, snack bars, picnic area, children's play area all in a beautiful setting.
Joy and John made my family and I very welcome. The boys loved feeding the chickens and playing in the pool. We had a brilliant time so relaxing time. Will be recommending to my friends.
Thank you so much Carlie! We know reviews really help people to choose their next holiday, and personal recommendations like yours are very kind and much appreciated.
It was an absolute pleasure to welcome three generations of your lovely family. We hope to welcome you all again one day (and especially Luke and Jamie!).
Thank you and à bientôt!

It was are 5th year here and still the best each year we come back ther is all ways some think new joy and John work hard to make it very nice Brantome is fab to see and to eat out The gite is surrounded by farmland and woods-perfect for scenic walks we will be going back some time jc mc
It's always a real pleasure to welcome you both, and we're very proud that you've trusted us enough to bring friends and family to stay too.
After this year's big projects - pergola by the pool, new pool fence and the new living room furniture - we're planning what 'John's list' should have on it for next year. We think we may replace the pool heater. Not very glamorous, but as newer models are really efficient, guests coming in April or September should be able to enjoy their swim even more.
We really look forward to welcoming you both again as soon as you're able! Thank you!!
