Welcome to L'Ancien Chai.

Situated in the beautiful, rolling countryside of northern Dordogne, L'Ancien Chai is a fully renovated four bedroom house on the brow of a hill with spectacular views all around. Sleeping up to 8 people, L'Ancien Chai offers luxury accommodation. It has a large shared swimming pool and tennis court with a large garden.

L'Ancien Chai is available for self-catering holiday rental weekly. It is privately owned gite and may be booked all year round. There are 6 other houses on the site and we share the pool and tennis court.

It offers a really relaxing holiday setting with plenty to do in the surrounding area. The small village of Lusignac, with its own restaurant, bar and historic Romanesque church, is within easy walking distance.

L'Ancien Chai is a non-smoking residence. Sorry, no pets.

L'Ancien Chai, is set in the countryside of Perigord Vert in Dordogne. It is 15 minutes walk from the small village of Lusignac which has a bar and restaurant.
The small village of Bouteilles St Sebastian is also in walking distance with another rustic quirky small bar. It lies in the valley below the house.
Verteillac is 6 km, with shops, bars, bank, post office, bakers, hairdresser, newsagent, doctor and pharmacist.
Riberac, 11km away, is a bustling town with all the amenities and a large open-air market every Friday which shouldn't be missed. The Dronne river flows through Riberac and offers fishing, canoeing and boating.
Further afield is Bordeaux (120km), Bergerac (70km) and Angouleme (50km). Bergerac (Ryanair/Flybe), Limoges (Ryanair) and Bordeaux (Easyjet) have airports with good connections to UK.

Or simply stay local. L'Anchien Chai will delight those interested in painting, photography and reading, or relaxing in the sun, enjoying the pool, playing tennis and recharging the batteries.
The house (or gite) L'Ancien Chai is situated on the edge of a small group of privately owned properties. The place was once a farm with L'Ancien Chai having magnificent views to the south, west and east. The house is very private but if you feel like being social, these neighbours are very friendly and will advise you on local places of interest.

There is a securely-fenced, large shared pool (14 metres x 4 metres) in the extensive grounds. The swimming pool is open from the end of May to the early October. The fencing makes it safe for little children to wander about in the grounds. The pool was refurbished in 2018 with the addition of child/elderly steps into the pool and a new liner.

There is also a full sized tennis court and we provide tennis rackets.

We have 4 adult bicycle and a child bike for your use.

Parking is available adjacent to the house.

Bergerac, with its airport is an hour's drive to the south, with historic Perigueux 34 km to the east. Bordeaux and the wine regions are to the west.

We have stayed at this property several times and noticed the owner’s improvements over the years. We’ve stayed in many places and this is a tip top holiday villa we love coming back to - we wouldn't stay anywhere else in the Dordogne. The facilities are great - four double bedrooms, excellent wifi - and the views and sunsets are to die for. Fantastic spot, lovely large swimming pool, tennis court and fun river canoeing only a few miles away. My wife and I are into wildlife photography and you can see so much just in the grounds – bonus! Highly recommended.

"I have visited this holiday home several times now and have experienced it in most every season... and it has never disappointed. With three sons in tow, I love the spaciousness and I feel very 'at home' there. The landlord, Will, is extremely welcoming and helpful. The house itself and surrounding grounds are well cared for with everything you could wish for provided, actually.. including bikes. Of course, with children the pool is a great plus, as is the wifi! The landscape is tremendous with an uninterrupted view of the hills rolling into the sunset. Those same hills provide great walks and a challenging bike ride! I can definitely recommend this house.

Owner response

Thank you. Our place is great for kids and teenagers. Plenty of room to spread out for everyone!

We've just enjoyed a great stay at L'Ancien Chai. We have 2 young children (3 and 18months) and a teenager (14) and the house was perfect for us. There would also have been room for my in-laws to come and stay if we'd wanted. The house had good cooking facilities, English TV (which was sadly useful for a 3 year old when it was too hot outside), a lovely private outdoor area and then shared grounds with a large shared pool.

The location is rural but as per the description and a car is a needed, but there is a village with a restaurant a 15 minute walk away. The surrounding villages have good shops and restaurants, the latter all being child friendly which was good! Being France you do need to remember to check the opening times due to midday closing (typically 12.30-3pm).

Highlights for us were Brantome, Aubeterre sur Dronne (the village and the river beach) and the Friday market at Riberac. However having young kids, we were quite happy staying at the house and playing in the pool. I would definitely stay here again.
