Chene Bois is a modern, but traditionally built 4 bedroom home, set in 2.5 acres with its own private swimming pool. New for the 2020 season is the addition of bedroom air conditioning to make night-time sleeping more comfortable as extreme temperatures are becoming more frequent.
The house occupies the top the top of a hill with 2 other properties: one is hidden in woodland and the other is approximately 100 metres away, so Chene Bois is completely private and not over-looked. It is beautifully tranquil with far reaching views across the valley.
Externally, at the front of the property there is a very large garden laid to lawn which is ideal for outside activities such as ball games, 1.5 acres of woodland to the side and rear and the private swimming pool.
The swimming pool is 10m x 5m and is surrounded by a security fence that conforms to current French safety legislation. This offers complete peace of mind knowing that the pool is accessed through a gate fitted with a child-proof lock. Essential for children or non-swimmers. The pool has a solar cover fitted to reduce heat loss from the water when not in use.
To the rear of the house is a lovely outside seating area, gazebo and bbq. A perfect place to relax and unwind at the end of the day.
Chene Bois is only a 10 minute drive to the River Dordogne and local village where a convenience store, butchers, bakers and Post Office with cash point can be found. In the near vicinity there are many restaurants and bars within easy reach. The villages of Beynac and La Roque Gageac, both voted one of the most beautiful villages in France, are within a 15 minute drive and the medieval town of Sarlat, with its twice weekly market, is 25 minutes away.
Chene Bois really is the perfect base to explore all the attractions the Dordogne has to offer as well as being the perfect place to relax and unwind.
There is a fully equipped kitchen (upgraded in 2019) and separate utility room complete with ceramic hob, fan oven, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine and tumble dryer.
We have endeavoured to provide all the crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils that you may need on your holiday.
There is a large open-plan lounge/diner providing seating for 8 people around the dining table.

However, due to the terrain Chene Bois is not ideally suited to wheelchair users or those with restricted mobility and the property has not been adapted for wheelchair accessibility.

We fell in love with the Dordogne after a camping trip nearly 30 years ago. It was always a dream to have a holiday home in the area and this became a reality in 2006.<br/>I own Chene Bois with my wife, Maggie, and friend Simon.

Wednesday and Saturday mornings
Lots of places to hire canoes along the river Dordogne
Both well worth a visit
Beautiful gardens, candle-lit every Thursday evening in July and August with muscical entertainment.
Really nice gite in the heart of the Dordogne excellently located for touristy stuff. Hot air balloons soaring overhead as you laze by the pool with the silence only broken by the crickets (and a once a day military jet flying low over - more exciting than inconvenient !). The gite is very well equipped with good quality kitchen items, smallish smart TV, SKY and surprisingly good stable wifi. Its down a little lane which ensures peace and quiet but it makes for a 5 or 6 mile drive down the windy road to the boulangerie. The downstairs double bedroom + twin room + bathroom arrangement is mirrored upstairs meaning 8 people are easily accommodated. There is no view to speak of from the house itself but it is better from the pool area which is 20ft up from the house. The gite is very homely and everything worked fine. I have no hesitation in recommending.
Thanks Paddy for your review.
A bigger tv has already been bought for next year ??.
You are welcome back any time.
We had a lovely stay at Chene Bois. The house is really comfortable with everything you could possibly need and is situated next to some wonderful tourist attractions. We visited the castles at Castelnaud and Beynac, the picturesque, medieval towns of Sarlat and Domme and had a great day canoeing on the Dordogne. Everything no more than a twenty minute drive away from the house. We also spent some lazy afternoons relaxing by the superb swimming pool and in the garden, with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. A real home from home!
Very nice property, super swimming pool. Remote peaceful location but long drive for bread and even longer for hyper market.well equiped very clean . only concern was a rather steep slope in back garden which with young children meant that the lack of a fence required alertness to stop a nasty fall. good value for money
We spent an amazing 2 weeks at Chene Bois and we’re extremely happy with the villa. It had everything we could have needed for our stay. The villa was exactly as described in the advert and was even more stunning than the pictures showed. The outdoor seating under the gazebo had a stunning view over the valley, very peaceful in the mornings to sit with a cup of tea and relax! The pool was used everyday and when the cover is left on was quite warm to get into. Fans were provided in every room and came in very handy as the temperature was usually around 30 degrees. The garden area around the pool gave the kids lots of space to play football and badminton and just run around having fun exploring. The local town has an amazing bakery that sells the most beautiful cakes, and has a little bar, shop and butchers also, which was great to get little bits from without having to travel to the supermarket. The canoeing along the river Dordogne is a must and the route from vitrac to Beynac has some stunning towns and views along the way. We also saw lots of hot air balloons flying over the villa and even had some fighter jets zoom past which the kids were amazed at! The town of Domme is a lovely day out to walk around the town and visit the caves and is only half an hour drive away. La-Roque-Gageac has some lovely shops and restaurants where you can walk along the Dordogne River. We will definitely be visiting again and thanks for an amazing holiday that we will never forget!
Really glad you had a great time. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
