Guests Reviews:

We had a wonderful holiday in this beautiful, house which is set in lovely well cared for gardens in a very peaceful area. The house was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. A car is needed, but there are many wonderful places to visit within a few kilometres such as Dome, Sarlat and Limeuil to name a few. A week was definitely not long enough. Shirley and James, who live in the grounds, are excellent hosts and helped make our stay perfect. Thank you.

My family and I have just returned from our second holiday at this property. All of the other 5 out of 5 reviews given to this property provide a true and accurate reflection of this wonderful property, which oozes character. Situated within acres of lovely grounds its a quiet and peaceful location, yet conveniently located for access to all of the charming towns around such as Domme, Sarlat, Les Eyzies and Montignac.
The house was spotlessly clean and brilliantly equipped to a high standard. We particularly enjoyed the large outside south facing terrace overlooking the gardens and private secluded pool. The swimming pool is cleaned daily and if staying with children its satisfying to know access to pool can only be gained by way of a childproof locked gate.
James and Shirley are excellent hosts very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable of the area, but not obtrusive. What sets this property apart from many others is the extra attention to detail the owners have applied. Set amidst beautiful secluded countryside. I would highly recommend a stay at this property.

Well where do we start. Not only is the house fantastic and set in a beautiful location (even better than the pictures) but the hosts James and Shirley really add that special touch. They are not intrusive at all but are there if needed for anything and very friendly. We arrived to a lovely welcome and were taken round and then left to enjoy the holiday. We arrived late but did not have to worry about shopping as Shirley had thought of everything we may need for that evening into the next day until we were able to go shopping. The place is extremely well equipped with loungers parasols tables and towels and outdoor games. There is a lovely patio just outside the door overlooking the grounds and again well equipped with seating, tables, parasols and a bbq. Lots of details of places to visit or eat at are provided. We had the most wonderful time and will definitely be returning. Thank you both.

My family (three couples) stayed at Shirley and James' beautiful house in June. This was our second visit to the Dordogne which is a gorgeous region with lots to explore and do. The house absolutely exceeded our expectations (which were high to begin with). The house itself was spotlessly clean and well laid out with three bedrooms and en suites (so useful when travelling with a group of adults), an enormous kitchen (by London standards) and lots of space so that we could come together for meals but could spend quiet time doing our own stuff as well. The land that the house sits on is beautiful and well kept; the pool is gat and it was wonderful to have meals on the terrace. It was an easy place to stay - everything had been thought of; from the initial welcome pack to spare towels and linen. James and Shirley are excellent hosts - friendly and knowledgeable but unobtrusive. We particularly enjoyed exploring the local area. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to friends and family; and we very much hope to make a return visit soon.

We have recently returned from a wonderful fortnight in this excellent property. Situated in beautiful, tranquil countryside, this traditional farmhouse was the ideal place for a peaceful and relaxing holiday for our family. The house was clean spacious, and comfortable and equipped with everything you could take with you from home - even cling film was provided. Bed linen and towels were plentiful and changed at the end of the first week. The pool was perfect, with plenty of sun loungers and parasols. Cleaned every morning by James the owner, it was situated at the bottom of an enormous garden; in which we were free to wander about or play badminton. James and his wife, Shirley were on hand to answer any queries we might have and were able to suggest suitable activities and restaurants in the area. They were extremely polite and friendly and gave us the best welcome pack we have ever had. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property. It is set in a quiet location but within easy driving distance of the best attractions the Dordogne has to offer.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Shirley Swarsbrick

We bought the property over 25 years ago slowly restoring it using local artisans and bringing it back to life. After many visits to France we decided the Dordogne as the place for us both initially as a holday home and then for our permanent move.

Year property purchased 1990
Why this location? We spent some time looking for our property as we wanted to have a quiet location but still have the benefits of not being isolated. We are a 10-15 minute drive from the two small towns of LE BUGUE and LES EYZIES the first with a twice weekly market, supermarkets, small shops, restaurants, cafes, bars as well as commerce and a medical centre. The second Les Eyzies is a Unesco designated site with the Museum of Pre-History and is well known around the world. I still marvel at the scenery driving along the the flood-lit hillside from Les Eyzies after dining at one of the many restaurants.

PERIGUEUX the capitol of the region, BERGERAC famous for its wines and SARLAT full of history and romance with its lovely stone buildings are all only a 45 minute drive away if you enjoy serious shopping.

There is definitely something for all the family in this lovely region.
Unique benefits of property Our rental is full of character yet has modern comforts with three en-suite bedrooms, and a large south facing terrace overlooking a private pool. Whilst we live on site in our own property we feel it is important to give our visitors their own space. Should you need assistance we are here as well as ensuring both the pool and gardens are well looked after for our guests.

The Owner Recommends

So many things to do and see.

We are based in an amazing area of the Dordogne with so many things to do from visiting the many caves and castles, local markets, wine tastings etc etc and so much more. With the Museum of pre-history in the small town of Les Eyzies a Unesco designated site only a 15 minute drive, visit the Cave of Font de Gaume which has cave paintings to rival Lascaux; I les Eyzies you can hire a canoe for an hour or so or even a day if feeling fit travelling at a gentle pace then returning for a chill out drink at one of the many restaurants bars and cafes.

This region is rich in sites historic with Lascaux 4 newly opened by the French president situated in the pretty town of Montignac a short drive from Les Eyzies. Spend time exploring the bastide towns of Monpazier; Beaumont or Molieres each one has a lovely market square check out the market day before you set out - the Dordogne has a markets every day of the week.

During the summer we have night markets with live music. Sit at the long tables after buying your food and wine from the many stalls and chat to the locals and tourists from all over the world. Large one in Le Bugue (only 15 mins from your rental) held on Tuesday evening with good choice of food for all the family.. .

Take a trip on a gabarre the flat bottomed boat which was used to transport goods along the Dordogne river in olden days. Now you can travel leisurely whilst admiring the many castles on the hillsides along the Dordogne valley.
