The 'Venice of the Perigord', Brantome is an idyllic village located just half an hour away on the River Dronne. Wooded cliffs loom up behind the beautiful Benedictine abbey and the river Dronne runs around the village. There is a small weir and a lovely and unusual right-angled stone bridge to add to the beauty of the scene.
Brantome has many restaurants where you can sit outside with a view of the river. You can take a river trip from here & canoes are available to rent. There is a weekly market on Friday.

Held on the first Sunday of every month, this market takes over the whole town & many bargains can be found.
The Chateau de Jumilhac is like a fairy-tale castle in the centre of a picturesque village & has spectacular roofs - an extravaganza of towers and turrets that has led Jumilhac to be described as having the most romantic roof in France. The myriad of turrets are then further enhanced by splendid ironwork and lead creations.
Built through the 15th, 16th & 17th centuries, the chateau also has wonderful interiors.
There are also several bars & restaurants in the village.
The Tour de France will be in the Dordogne on 11th, 12th & 13th July. Exact route yet to be advised.
