The Owner Recommends

The 'Venice of the Perigord', Brantome is an idyllic village located just half an hour away on the River Dronne. Wooded cliffs loom up behind the beautiful Benedictine abbey and the river Dronne runs around the village. There is a small weir and a lovely and unusual right-angled stone bridge to add to the beauty of the scene.
Brantome has many restaurants where you can sit outside with a view of the river. You can take a river trip from here & canoes are available to rent. There is a weekly market on Friday.

Piegut-Pluviers market

Only 15 minutes' drive away, the bustling market is held every week on a Wednesday. The market sells everything from fresh local food & wine to clothing, art & leather goods.
There are numerous places to eat or just stop for a coffee & cake which are open all week as well as on market day.

Verteillac 'brocante' market

Held on the first Sunday of every month, this market takes over the whole town & many bargains can be found.

Chateau at Jumilhac-le-Grand

The Chateau de Jumilhac is like a fairy-tale castle in the centre of a picturesque village & has spectacular roofs - an extravaganza of towers and turrets that has led Jumilhac to be described as having the most romantic roof in France. The myriad of turrets are then further enhanced by splendid ironwork and lead creations.
Built through the 15th, 16th & 17th centuries, the chateau also has wonderful interiors.
There are also several bars & restaurants in the village.

Brantome Police Horses

The best reviewed destination for our guests! Just 15 minutes away, Roland and his team provide British police horses that have been retired from service, either through ill-health or old age, with a final and loving home in the French countryside. They routinely hold open days, where you can meet their residents and enjoy a traditional English cream tea, to raise funds for this wonderful non-profit organisation
