|La Maison at Le Pommier||Self Catering||Flexible||3||6||2||We have 2 cots, and 1 z-bed|
La Maison is a beautiful 3 bedroom house with a stunning stone terrace overlooking the garden and pool. The pool and games barn are shared with guests in Le Gite, our other holiday cottage. It's perfect for multi generation family holidays as the downstairs bedroom has its own bathroom, and the upstairs bedrooms share a large modern bathroom. We've welcomed family and friend groups of all ages, and even had couples who've chosen it for a luxury holiday on their own!
The house is well equipped for up to 6 guests, and we hope we've provided everything to make your holiday comfortable, relaxing, and enjoyable at any time of year.
You have a choice of places to eat; in the kitchen, at the courtyard table (this is a quiet spot for a coffee if you're the first to rise in the morning), at the more formal table in the living room, or on the terrace overlooking the pool and garden.
The living/dining room is beautifully furnished, and equipped with tv and DVD player. There is a selection of books and DVDS in the barn for you to use. If your holiday is in the cooler months there is a wood burning stove, and recycled wool blankets to make things cosy.
Both bathrooms have a shower and bath, and we provide all bedlinen, towels, and bath mats. There is a hairdryer in each bedroom.
Situated in the Dronne Valley in a rural location, surrounded by fields of sunflowers, corn, gentle valleys and woodland, this is an area of outstanding natural beauty. Surprisingly it's only 5 - 10 minutes drive from Riberac with its cafes, restaurants, shops, and the biggest market in the area every Friday. If you like to walk, run, or cycle, there is a quiet road that takes you in to Riberac. It's downhill with great views on the way, and not so bad coming back if you've had a coffee and croissant!
The gardens are pretty, and nestled in the countryside. There are lots of places to relax at Le Pommier, be it lying by the pool, or reading a book under the walnut trees.
There are wonderful places to visit and things to do within a short drive; the chateau at Bourdeilles, the abbey at Brantome, the monolithic church in Aubeterre, the cathedral and medieval streets and squares of Perigueux. There are river beaches at Aubeterre and St Aulaye, and kayaking at many points along the Dronne. Le Grand Etang de La Jemaye is a huge lake with a beach and swimming, walks, and perfect areas to picnic under the shade of trees. We can recommend local restaurants for the occasions you want to eat out.
There are plenty of options for days out as well. A 25 minute drive to Mussidan train station makes it very easy to visit Bordeaux for the day, the Vineyards of St Emilion are 1.5 hours drive away, and so is the beautiful town of Sarlat.
The kitchen is well-equipped with everything you should need, including a dishwasher. There is a small dining table with 4 chairs, and there is a much larger dining table in the living/dining room.
We provide a cool box and ice packs for shopping in the heat, and there's a picnic blanket and plastic crockery and cutlery for picnics.
We also provide washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets. We have a highchair and booster seat if needed.
The living room runs from front to back of the house with lots of windows. It's furnished with antique furniture and has an HD tv with Sky box and dvd player and comfortable large sofa. There is a stone fireplace with woodburning stove should you be here in cooler weather.
A door opens onto the large stone terrace which has steps down to the garden and pool. The terrace is lovely for dining, relaxing, and watching the sun go down.
Has an antique French bed, wardrobe and dressing table/chest of drawers. A door opens onto the terrace.
Has a kingsize bed, chest of drawers, dressing table and clothes rail. The window looks out over the orchard and countryside beyond.
Has 2 singles beds, a chest of drawers and hanging rail. The window has the same aspect as the double. Both rooms have shutters to make the rooms darker if needed, and keep the heat out.
We provide a fan and hairdryer in each bedroom.
Bath, shower, and washbasin. The toilet is separate.
A large bathroom with 2 skylights. Bath, shower, toilet and washbasin.
We provide hand soap and toilet rolls.
We will provide heating if required - the house has central heating, but if it's just a couple of cooler days we will provide electric heaters and logs for the woodburner.
Apart from the pool, we have swingball and boules for outside.
The barn houses table tennis, pool, table football and darts.
Alex will do archery sessions if guest are interested as well.
There is a selection of dvds for an occasional film evening, and you're welcome to bring your own.
If you're celebrating a birthday, other occasion, or just feel like cake, Linda can make one for you.
La Maison has a dining area in the front courtyard by the well and on the fabulous stone terrace at the back of the house. The pool is shared with guests in Le Gite, but there are plenty of loungers and we usually find everyone gets on well. Especially if we do an evening BBQ, then put the pool lights on for a late swim!
You also have your own BBQ to use.
Everyone finds the pool garden a very relaxing space, and you're welcome to move furniture under the walnut trees if you'd like some shade.
Parking is just outside our gate or on the orchard. Our track is generally very quiet, just the post van and the odd tractor!
Our house is ideal for family groups, with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs, and another bedroom and bathroom downstairs. It would also be great for a group of friends holidaying together.
At the moment there is access from the house (the door can be locked) onto the terrace and down the steps to the pool. The pool has a child proof cover which is closed at night, but no fence. We have a stair gate for the house as well.
Linda (catering and hospitality background) and Alex (an artist) look forward to welcoming guests at Le Pommier. We love living in this little bit of paradise (guests feel relaxed within minutes of walking through the gates) and sharing what we know about the area. We're still exploring! If you're celebrating a special occasion Linda can make a cake, or prepare a meal for you.

|Why this location?||My cousins lived in this area when I was a teenager and I came on holiday with my family. All these years later there are 4 generations of my family living here and we feel really at home. Of course this is a gorgeous area of France with river valleys, lakes, beautiful villages, great food and wine, and we're far enough south to enjoy wonderful weather.|
|Unique benefits of property||We are situated between 2 farms on a track off a quiet road, but we're only a 5 minute drive from the market town of Riberac with restaurants, cafes, shops, supermarkets. If you're feeling energetic it's a 40 minute walk! We're in the Dronne river valley, which is really beautiful. It's possible to kayak from various points all along the river, and there are beaches in two villages, and at the lake at Jemaye. Our property is set in gardens but surrounded by countryside. We have a small orchard with fruit trees (you'll find homemade jam in your welcome basket), and the pool is in a large garden with walnut trees. La Maison has a terrace which overlooks the pool and is the perfect place to watch the sunset. Visiting children, as well as enjoying the wildlife, are fascinated by how many stars they can see! There are lots of places to visit and things to do within a short drive.|
Every Friday morning in the centre of Riberac. The food section is really good and there is a choice of café/bars for coffee or lunch, alfresco of course! There is usually an art exhibition in the tourist information office as well.
Bordeilles is in a riverside setting with a chateau that is open for visits all year round. The next destination is Brantome known as the 'Venice of the Perigord'. A stunning setting with its riverside abbey and weir. There are excellent restaurants (I also recommend a picnic by the river) and shops in little streets and set into caves in the cliff.
Great fun, starting at one of the many points all along the river. You can choose different length trips, and I'm happy to phone and book for you.
