I am a retired Police Inspector from Suffolk, who just loves the life that France has to offer. Stunning countryside, great wines, local traditional dishes and of course the fabulous weather. Being part of a community .
|Year property purchased||1994|
|Why this location?||The weather was the first draw, the idyllic slower pace of life, and the local traditions and customs. Being surrounded by open countryside and all the freedom that goes with it.|
|Unique benefits of property||Our house is a 200 year old character cottage retaining its original features, comfortable, well equipped. Lovely private gardens, a place to relax. We are in a small village but not isolated. A great base for exploring and at the end of the day a nice place to come home to. We have a fun pool to cool off in or just lounge around in the garden. If you need any help or advice we are on hand.|

Its a wonderful way to taste local products by local producers, fresh and interesting. Fresh fish, vegetables, cakes, Foie Gras, meat and cheeses.
During the summer months there are night markets, with music, dancing, and fabulous food stalls.
At Castillon La Bataille during July and August (in the evening) there is a re-enactment of the battle that took place between the English and the French. Horses, costumes, noise and lots of fun.
10 mins from our house is a man made lake with safe swimming (life guards) beach, restaurant, play area for children, and canoes. All FREE. You can also hire a canoe and at your leisure paddle down the Dordogne.
There is a great range of restaurants to suit all budgets.
A stunning location for lovers of food and wine. Visit the Chateaux and taste the delicious wines of this is also the centre for Foie Gras.
The Gite is quite large but is in need of some TLC lots of damp and flaking paint in kitchen,
It states there is a TV but it only plays dvd’s which was a bit disappointing if you wanted to watch the news or someting.
Although one of the bedrooms has a bathroom next to it the other bedroom is at one end of the gite and the other bathroom at the other end not very convenient in the middle of the night .
Jane & Clive we’re very nice and very helpful with any request.
I would sum up with the view that it is rustic gite and we had a wonderful holiday.
I have to admit that the television was my fault, on the other sites I have put that it only plays DVD’s. All our other guests have had smart phones, iPads etc , so,they been able to access news ,films etc., and have made the point that they didnt need that facility. But in 2019 that will be rectified. This is a 200year plus cottage so there are bound to be some tiny issues which we accept and address on a regular basis. It is 27 steps to the bathroom. This is the first negative review we’ve had.
We have had a wonderful time in this gorgeous cottage. Jane and Clive are wonderful hosts and the communication has been fabulous. Wonderful location and so relaxing.
