The Owner Recommends

La Roque St Christophe

Just a few minutes drive from the house you will find the prehistoric and historic site of La Roque Saint Christophe. It is unique in its size (1km long, 5 levels, more than 100 shelters carved into the cliff face), its age and the length of its human occupation (at least 25000 years). On the banks of the Vezere, find out how our ancestors lived.

Font De Gaume

Spectacular caves a few minutes drive from the house. In our opinion, the best in the Dordogne. Fantastic prehistoric cave paintings. It is likely that these caves will be closed to the public in the near future in order to preserve them. In peak periods we would suggest you arrive at the ticket office as early as possible. We have seen people queuing at 7am!

Vezere valley

The Vezere Valley is the home of the 16 sites that make up the UNESCO World Heritage listing fot the area. All sites are within a 15 minute drive of the house. There are many opportunities for canoeing along the river.

Local Markets

As in all areas of France local markets are central to community life. Weekly markets take place all year, in the summer period there are also evening markets.

Les Eyzies

The local village is Les Eyzies, famous for prehistoric findings and museums.

Sarlat

Sarlat is the tourist capital of the Dordogne. A fantastic medieval town with many shops restaurants and a very busy Saturday market. Arrive early to secure parking on Saturdays.

Domme

Domme is a beautiful Bastide town with fantastic views over the Dordogne valley. Many restaurants, and caves. Well worth a visit.

Chateau de Castelnaud

A restored 13th Century castle open to the public.

Nearby lake with sandy beach

Etang De Tamnies. Family favourite, man made lake with sandy beaches. Ideal for younger children; great for building sand castles, sunbathing, swimming and fishing. Life guard supervised. 10-15 minute drive from the house.

Gouffre De Proumeyssac

A magnificent cave on a huge scale, an underground ‘cathedral of crystal’

Les Jardins Du Manoir D’Eryignac

Great day out for the kids, especially the alligators

Le Jardins De Marqueyssac

One of the better gardens open to the public.

Rocamadour

An excellent day out, albeit with a 90 minute drive each way are Rocamadour and the Forest of Monkeys. Spectacular village built into the cliffs. A site of significant historical and religious importance.
