Chez Barrat is my beloved home in the Dordogne which sadly I am not able to stay in often enough thus it is let out in the summer for holidays in the hope that guests will enjoy it as much as I do.

The house is divided into two parts with the hub of the house being the large country kitchen with access to both living rooms and the huge terrace spanning the whole of the back of the house.

It is ideal for larger groups or 2 or 3 families as there is a lot of comfortable space and 2 kitchens. So everybody can get away from each other if they need to and yet enjoy each other's company when they want to.

It sits on high ground at the end of a long private roadway so there is no passing traffic. Although there are other converted houses in the little hamlet, you don't notice them as, being at the end, we have 180 degree uninterupted panoramic views across the surrounding countryside and it is in fact very private and peacful.

Kitchen and dining

There are 2 kitchens, both well equipped and both leading out onto the huge terrace so eating outside is usual. There is also a big dining table in the central kitchen (referred to as kitchen 2) and a large dining table in the huge vaulted living room.

Living rooms

Two living rooms, one about 66 square metres and the other about 35 sq metres. Both have comfy seating. There is a study (which can be used as another bedroom if necessary) with satellite tv. There is also a mezzanine area.

Bedroom 1 - double bed with en suite shower room, overlooking the garden and terrace
Bedroom 2 - double bed with en suite jack and jill bathroom, overlooking the front of the house
Bedroom 3 - two single beds and bunk beds, ideal for children or another double room.

Bathrooms

As described above, there are five bathrooms in total with one being on the ground floor.

Heating

No heating is needed in the summer, but there is a log burning stove in one of the two living rooms. In winter there is oil fired central heating.

Garden and outside

The garden and grounds run to about two acres on sloping ground. There is a wooded area with a lovely little glade at the bottom . Mostly laid to lawn with a large swimming pool set away from the house. The swimming pool has the sun on it for most of the day and is secluded. It is 1.2 metres deep all over andmeasures 10 metres by 5 metres.

I live in Sussex with my husband, dogs and horses and would love to spend more time in my peaceful house in France, but sadly I can't due to other commitments. I had a wonderful time converting the house into two separate parts and landscaping the two acre garden.

Year property purchased 2002
Why this location? I bought the house as soon as I saw it. It is wonderfully peaceful but not isolated as it is at the end of a private road with half a dozen neighbours. Being at the end, we don't really see anything of the neighbours and are very private. I wanted the house to be secure when left empty which it is.
Unique benefits of property Peace and quiet. Quirky! Fantastic views across rolling countryside. Guests say it has a lovely atmosphere.
