We decided in 2015 to leave the beautiful city of Amsterdam and our careers and to move to the Dordogne - swopping one UNESCO World Heritage site for another! We converted a tobacco drying barn on the property into our own home and renovated Le Mas & Le Mazet, and are very proud of how beautiful and comfortable they have become. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

|Why this location?||When we drove up the long drive to Le Mas for the first time, we realised how special the place was and how amazing it could become. We love its history, character and charm and the beautiful countryside all around it, with all the wildlife, peace and tranquility it offers. This part of France is not only beautiful, but has exemplary food and wine, culture and history.
There is much to explore in the area. Markets selling local produce and antiques. Castles, churches and prehistoric caves, famous wineries, and restaurants serving the region’s specialities (such as truffles, duck and foie gras). There are stunning walks and cycle routes on the doorstep; canoeing, golf, horse riding. We are very happy to advise on what to do and where to go.
|Unique benefits of property||Le Mas has been awarded 5-stars by the Ministry of Tourism, a one of only 17 hotels or gites in the Dordogne. Le Mazet has been awarded 4-stars.
The Daily Telegraph has reviewed Le Mas & Le Mazet online with 9/10.
The setting is spectacular - approached down a long private drive through woods and fields, the houses sit on top of a hill overlooking the glorious Dordogne countryside, all the way to the 12th century village church, whose bells you can hear over the valley.
The houses are centuries-old and full of authentic charm, but have been completely renovated to bring them into the 21st century. Our guests all remark on the attention to detail and comfort afforded by the houses.
Hotel beds and Egyptian cotton sheets offer a good night's sleep.
We have a private chef who can cook a special menu at Le Mas for you, and a masseuse who can come and relax you.
There are no hidden charges and even the firewood and barbecue gas is included.
Every morning of the week there is a market to be found. Our favourite is the Sunday morning market in Issigeac - it's big, very French and has delicious local produce.
The Dordogne has 1,001 cháteaux, some of which you can visit. We love Biron, Castelnaud, Beynac and Milandes.
There are fantastic restaurants around us, from pizza places to Michelin starred restaurants. We have a list of recommendations to share with you.
Canoeing down the Dordogne river is a great way to experience this beautiful part of France, as is horse riding, walking and cycling. We have info on where to go and what to do.
