About the Owner/Advertiser, Mr John Lewis

We dreamed for years that we would move to France and run gites, providing excellent accommodation to discerning clients from across the world. In 2013 we were lucky enough to be able to realise our dream and hope that we will be able to share our enthusiasm for France with you soon.

Year property purchased 2013
Why this location? We fell in love with the Dordogne many years ago and when we saw this property with its fantastic facilities, perfect location and fantastic views we hoped we had found our ideal spot. Since moving the warmth of the people have made us feel really welcome, reinforcing our decision that this was the perfect spot for us.
Unique benefits of property The property is set on the top of a hill with far reaching views, in the middle of lovely countryside and yet is just 5km from the medieval village of Issigeac with its preserved ancient architecture, fantastic restaurants and popular Sunday market and only 16km from Bergerac with its historical centre, wide range of shops and international airport. It is the perfect spot, allowing you to relax in our extensive grounds, rest by the large pool or explore all the beauty and attractions that the Dordogne has to offer.

The Owner Recommends

Local restaurants

The are 3 fantastic restaurants in Issigeac, just 5 km from the gite, along with other cafes and bars. Begerac, which is only 16km away has a wider ranger of restaurants ranging from Michelin stars to humble cafes serving great value for money food.
We are able to advise on our personal favourites plus those enjoyed by our previous guests to ensure that you eating experience lives up to your expectations.

Markets

The area is reknowned for its markets and the one held every Sunday in Issigeac is particularly popular with locals and tourists alike. With its wide range of fresh local produce, cheese and wines plus a variety of other stalls it is always a poplur visit for our guests.

Wines

The Bergerac region is renowned for its good value, excellent quality wines and we many of the best vineyards are on our doorstep. If you want to go further afield the world renowned wines St Emilion and Bordeaux are an easy drive away.

Chàteaux

The Dordogne is known as the region of 1001 chàteaux. I can't tell you that we have counted all of them but there are certainly a lot to choose from and we are on hand to be able to advise on the best ones.

River cruises/canoeing

The Dordogne river provides the opportunity to spend the day relaxing on a river cruise enjoying the sights of the Dordogne river or quietly drifting down the river in a canoe or kayak. Take a picnic and stop off at a picturesque village to wander around on way down the river.

Historic towns and villages

There are so many lovely ancient towns and villages nearby to visit that we are often asked for our favourites. Clearly Issigeac always rates highly but also Montpazier is one of our favourites, but there are so many around that we're spoilt for choice. The best thing is to ask us for our recommendations or just wander around and see where you end up.

Pre-history

The Dordogne area is famous for the remaining evidence of the lives of early man. The most famous of which is, of course, Lascaux with its incredible cave paintings, but there are many other incredible sites to visit, many of which were inhabited from the neolithic right up until the middle ages. A holiday here can really be a journey through the history and pre-history of mankind.
