We are Cees (entrepreneur) and Bertilla (photographer), from the Netherlands. From early childhood we both dreamed of living in France and we bought Villa Joli Verger during our honeymoon. Slowly and carefully we renovated it to be let as a holiday home, or in parts as a gîte and bed and breakfast. We enjoy interior decorating, cooking, gardening and entertaining. Now, we share our house and our knowledge of the region with our international guests. (We speak English, French, German and Dutch.)

|Why this location?||After driving all over France in search of the perfect place, we found the ‘Périgord Vert’, a part of the Dordogne the most attractive. It is luscious and green, fertile, has a long history and lots of interesting sites. The cuisine in the Dordogne is renowned and the little quintessential villages often harbour some very good restaurants. The proximity of Périgueux, Angoulême, Bordeaux and Bergerac comes in handy. The rivers and lakes are crystal clear and great for swimming and canoeing. The nearby towns offer all you need, including brocantes weekly markets.|
|Unique benefits of property||We fell in love with the warm character of this 700-year-old house. Set in a hamlet makes it a protected place; the garden is secluded and private yet offering vast views over the unspoilt hills of the Dordogne.
Renovation was done with great care so as not to disturb the medieval details. Our aim was to provide comfortable and hassle free holidays, as we know how busy and full life can be. Therefore we decorated the house and garden with high-end furnishings (no cheap plastic seats in our garden!). We invested in hypoallergenic beds, pillows and duvets. All linens are provided, we can stock up your fridge if you ask us. There are several fire places, and a barbecue.
The garden has been designed so that there is shade and privacy for everyone, even large groups. There is an orchard and vegetable garden so we can regularly provide you with some fresh produce.
It has become a place of comfort, harmony and tranquillity.
Fabulous Michelin star restaurant with adventurous cuisine, stunning views and a great terrace. And... a 3 course lunch menu at € 39,- a head including several hors d’oeuvres. The service is impeccable and the sommelier has some very good suggestions of local wines.
This lovely pelgrimage city with it's surrounding canal, laced with restaurants, it's lovey abbey and quaint little shops and terraces is a lovely place to visit. Especially on Friday mornings when it boasts a large market by the waterside.
World renowned for the well kept prehistoric paintings on the cave walls. Well worth a visit.
Medieval city built on a natural cliff with stunning views and an informative tour. Gives you an excellent impression on how people lived an protected themselves in another time and civilization.
This castle is not only furnished and inhabited, but it is also a games castle: 100 games for adults and children, indoor or outdoor. Trying on armour, crossbow, catapult, chessboard, snakes and ladders, shadow theatre, parlour games, skill games and a mysterious labyrinth.
Although there are many caves in the area to visit, this one stands out for it's stunning crystal formations. Do book the open elevator that let's you down from the top to get the most splendid overall view. End your visit with a lunch in Les Eyries or Le Bugue for which we can make many recommendations.
My husband and I and our three children (20, 18 and 12 years old) stayed for two weeks at Joie Verger. Our hosts, Bertilla and Cees, were perfect; there if you needed them for advice on the surrounding area and a chat, and almost invisible at other times.
The facilities were spotless with effortless charm and character. The layout of the different rooms and sleeping accommodations suited us well, each able to have their own space.
The pool area was inviting and the water clean and refreshing.
It was a great location in terms of exploring the area with main towns and cities at the most an hours drive but with beautiful villages on your doorstep. We would often start the day with a coffee in a village square before picking up our croissants from the local boulangerie.
We can not recommend this area and in particular this house highly enough.
Thank you so much for your kind comment. We are glad that you had such a lovely time and look forward to seeing you again!
With kind regards,
Bertilla and Cees
