Stone Cottage with Garden, Views, Shared Heated Pool. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

Our first year with Brittany Ferries and successfully letting for 15 years (fully registered) Le Chevalier is is a stone cottage with panoramic views and heated pool.
Le Chevalier is a 19th century stone cottage attached to west end of the property with beautiful views over the valley and woodland. Fully modernised with some of the rooms, kitchen and upstairs, retaining the original stone walls. It has a south and west facing sunny aspect with a large enclosed garden.
This gite is suitable for those with some movement restrictions or the elderly wanting to avoid stairs: the master bedroom and bathroom are both on the ground floor. With a lounge leading onto a sunny furnished garden, its a very versatile holiday space for a family of five or just a couple.
10×5m heated pool providing stunning views from our hilltop position over the wooded valley. Loads of poolside terracing, furniture and shade it's a real feature of our location. The views, particularly from your own garden or the general gardens surrounding the property are beautiful and far reaching. The peace and quiet are the features all our visitors comment upon.
Our property occupies 5 acres of hillside amongst valleys and woodland offering endless waymarked walks and cycle tracks starting from our gates. Many of our visitors come as keen walkers and cyclists, road and MTB are excellently catered for from our gates.
Only a short cycle or car trip to the River Dronne with all the usual river activities, we are also within 5 km of a handful of villages providing the full range of amenities and restaurants.



Kitchen and dining

The kitchen is separate leading off from the lounge. Equipped with a fridge and freezer, gas oven and hob, washing machine, microwave and the essential extras like coffee percolator that one needs for your holiday. It has ample worktops around the room and a dining table.

Living rooms

The living room opens directly onto the sunny garden. Oak beams and a feature stone hearth around which is the lounge suite seating all five of your family if necessary. Lovely light and open room with glazed windows to south and west having shutters to keep the sun out on the hot summer days.
A tv (UK Freesat) completes the lounge


Master bedroom:
This is a lovely room that remains cool in the heat of the summer. Oak beams and a window overlooking the garden, it is on the ground floor so ideal for those who do not want or can't easily use stairs.
Full double bed and bedside tables, chest of drawers for clothes storage and clothes hanging.
Like the whole property, stays lovely and cool in the hot months due to its thick walls.

Beroom 2:
First floor bedroom accessed by wooden stairs from the lounge with three single beds, bedside tables, chest of drawers and clothes hanging. Cot available.


The bathroom is on the ground floor accessed by a door leading to separate room for wc and shower. Large walk in shower with hand basin in one room, and wc in a separate room.


The gite has electrical wall mounted convection heaters in lounge, bathroom and bedroom which are available at an additional cost for lets outside of the heated pool season, being mid May to mid September.


It's the pool
You also have a furnished garden with a permanent stone bbq for outdoor cooking and al fresco dining. There are several places in the surrounding gardens to sit and enjoy the views or picnics under a tree.

Garden and outside

The entire property, to which this cottage is attached is surrounded by gardens taking up about half an acre of the 5 acres of our property. Your gite has it's own garden to the front and rear which overlooks the pool and the valley/woodland. You can shade under the apple tree or the wild cherry, watch the horses being schooled or enjoy the view over the valley and woodlands. The pool is in this elevated area with beautiful views.

We are at the end of the lane so beyond our gates is access to the ancient woodland with its walks (waymarked or just wander yourself) and tracks for off road cycling.

Parking is at the rear of the property.

We don't forbid additional visitors visiting you during your stay so day visitors are by request and dependant upon circumstances.

The pool is 10x5m and heated from mid May to mid September. There are two terraces with permanent shade to escape the sun as well as areas where you can sit in full sun.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mr Michael Smith

We are Gail and Mike and we moved to Grand Brassac in our 40's in 2004 for a different pace of life. Initially running our gites in parallel with a smallholding, we now live a life of leisure though Gail still practices as an Acupuncturist. We are keen cyclists and equestrian: Gail competes at dressage and eventing whilst Mike competes at Road racing and MTB.<br/>We live in the most superb location imaginable for both sports as well as an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Why this location? This part of the Dordogne is the perfect mix of rural beauty, traditional French life and lively summer activities. Coming from The Cotswolds we love hills and valleys, woodland and streams so this is home from home. As a holiday destination you get the chance to appreciate this and the fantastic climate.
Our 5 acre property is on the top of a hill with panoramic rural views. Sunny and peaceful its a great place for relaxing and accessing the myriad holiday activities and cultural opportunities.
Unique benefits of property Our house is situated I beautiful countryside but only a few kilometres from many small villages and towns. Stunning views from the heated pool which is the jewel for those wanting to relax and lounge. It is very peaceful here.
For those wanting activities our location is perfect: walking and cycle trails start from our gate; hundreds of kilometres of earmarked routes. The river with it's canoeing, fishing and swimming from beaches is just a short cycle ride or car journey. Your gite has it's own garden to enjoy the sunshine and in particular, the glorious summer evenings - no light pollution so the sky's are amazing.

There is a market nearby every weekday in one or other of the local villages or towns. Of particular note is the traditional market at St Astier on Thursday that literally fills the town's streets. Markets on Fridays at Riberac and Brantome.
