About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Karen Harrison

Rob & Karen offer the very warmest welcome to the start of a simply magical holiday at Le Relais des Roches in the beautiful Dordogne. We have lived here for almost 14 years, never happier than when outdoors after spending many years commuting on planes, trains and automobiles!!

Year property purchased 2005
Why this location? We were already living in Les Eyzies when these properties came up for sale in the village. It is very unusual to find properties in a village setting but surrounded by trees and with a large pool so we jumped at the opportunity to buy them and set about renovating them to our standards.

The Owner Recommends

Font de Gaume Caves

Just 250 meters away from Le Relais des Roches, you can visit the Font de Gaume caves a UNESCO World Heritage site which have 20,000 year old original cave paintings - a wonderful experience.

Canoeing the Dordogne and Vezere Rivers

From our own experience, one not to missed is canoeing (or kayaking) down either the Vezere or Dordogne rivers - take along a picnic, pick up your chosen craft, oars and safety vests and off you go, drifting downstream to a preselected destination where you will be picked up and returned to your parked car.
The Dordogne valley passes beneath several famous chateaux including Baynac and Castelnaud, and drifts through the eye-candy village La Roche Gageac. - simply delightful.

The Medieval Town Of Sarlat

Just 20 minutes drive - one of the finest examples of a medieval town in France. The centre of the town is truly picturesque with more listed buildings than any other town in Europe, all of which are beautifully preserved. Market days (Wednesday and Saturday) are well worth a visit and an evening visit is a must as all the old town is lit up.
During July and early August, there is a theatre festival and throughout the summer you can watch the street entertainers and musicians who perform in the streets of the old town whilst sitting outside a cafe with a glass of wine or beer.

Chateaux & Castles

The Perigord is the home of 1001 chateaux, many of them open to the public our favorites being Castelnaud and Chateau des Milandes (the home of Josephine Baker). Le Banquet is within 30 minutes drive to over 10 of these wonderful chateaux.

Being perfectly located for the wine regions of Bergerac, Cahors and on the door step of both St Emilion and Bordeaux. Sample fine wines rarely found outside of France and don't miss the Château de Monbazillac.

Night Markets - Marchés Nocturnes

Every evening in a different village throughout July & August there is an evening market - Simply turn up and grab one of the tables which are set up in the market squares. Market traders provide everything from wine, starters, cooked meals and deserts some of the produce sold comes from local farmers and producers and is typical of the region. Then dance the night away to the live band - a great night out also enjoyed by all the locals.

Lascaux 4 Caves

The amazing new replica of Lascaux caves was opened in 2016. Using state of the art technology this visit is more interactive and more interesting than ever before.
The stunning new building costing over 60 million Euro has been made to blend into its surroundings and is fully wheelchair accessible. Children love it here too!

Hanging Gardens Of Marqueyssac

Set on a plateau overlooking the Dordogne river and valley, these stunning gardens that have been featured on BBC 2's Gardeners World are a great place to visit for the whole family. Children will love running through the parkland and playing in the play areas. During July & August every Thursday there are candlelit evenings with jazz music, take a picnic and enjoy a new experience.

Village de Bournat theme park

A family day in the 1900's, this village, carefully reconstructed down to the smallest detail, brings us back to the good old days, where yesteryear’s traditions, crafts and craftsmanship join together to form a real art of living “à la française”. It's a wonderful experience, old school house, old church, working windmill, old fashioned fair ground, animals, crafts - a fabulous day out!!

Tamnies Lake & Beach

Etang De Tamnies is a 15 minute drive from Le Banquet - a pretty lake with 5000 square metres of fine sand beach. Ideal for younger children; great for building sand castles, sunbathing, swimming and fishing. Life guard supervised. Only 2 Euro entry fee - a family favorite!!

Boat trips along the Dordogne

If canoeing is a little too energetic for you then why not take a boat trip along the Dordogne on a Gabare. These are the traditional river boats used in the Périgord region to transport food and wine in the 18th century. Sit back and take in the five beautiful chateaux along the banks of the Dordogne.

Aerial Parks

If you fancy swinging through the tree tops, then there are 2 aerial parks just the other side of Sarlat. The biggest, the Foret d'Ecureuils has 120m of slides The complex is divided into different zones, from young children through to adults.

The Bastide Of Dome

Another 'plus beau village de France, is perched on the cliff tops overlooking the Dordogne Valley, the medieval Bastide of Domme is one of the treasures of the Dordogne. The views down the valley are stunning and you will feel very much part of history as you walk around the streets. Market day is on Thursday.

Lovely holiday gite in a great setting with pool and outside space, ideally located just a stone's throw away from the village centre, with its several shops and restaurants to enjoy

The gite itself was very clean and well equiped. Both the kitchen and bbq were very usable. The living area was very cosy and included sky tv, dvd player and a selection of dvds.
Outside was a shaded patio area with table, chairs and bbq.

The shared swimming pool area had plenty of sunbeds and parasols. It was a good size for all of us to be able to swim and make use of the various pool inflatables/toys provided by the owners. The pool was unheated and therefore quite "refreshing" at times, however that didn't deter us from using it frequently!

The owners were very friendly and stopped by a few times to ensure we were enjoying our stay and were happy to recommend some of the restaurants and local places to visit.

Places nearby worth visiting: Les Grottes du Roc de Cazelle is great for kids (and adults) to learn about the history of the area, from prehistoric man to present day, along with the two prehistory museums in town. Chateau des Milandes and Chateau de Campagne are both very picturesque and interesting, with beautiful gardens. Limeuil has a great "river beach" where kids can paddle in the shallow river. Lots of lovely towns and villages nearby to explore.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely return!
