About this property

Family Home With 7 En Suite Bedrooms & Swimming Pool. This villa is in a rural setting.

Le Cheval Blanc is a large, but intimate and homely self-catering property in the Dordogne providing luxurious accommodation and an exclusive swimming pool at non-luxury prices. We can sleep at least 14 people in 7 big en suite bedrooms.

Le Cheval Blanc was originally an old farmhouse and barn, nestled in a south facing location in
Joubertias, a tiny 10 house hamlet in the valley of the River Dronne. It has been beautifully
converted and now offers guests 7 ensuite bedrooms in addition to a large living room – complete with a bar made from big old oak beams from the original barn, just perfect for that big get together with family and friends.

Joubertias is just 7kms from Riberac which has a busy and picturesque market every Friday morning.

We are well located for visiting the many beautiful places that the Dordogne and the Charente has to offer: Cognac, Sarlat, St. Emilion, Bergerac and the superb Venice of the Dordogne, Brantome to name but a few and of course, all the attractions that the wine regions have to offer.

Although no-one can guarantee the weather, it is true to say here in south west France we usually have splendid summers and springs and wonderful autumns. We can have lovely sunny days from March through November. Temperatures in the spring and autumn generally have an average of approximately 19C, and our summers around 25C – 30C, perfect for long days at the swimming pool.

French cuisine is admired the world over. In our region, the Perigord, ‘Perigordian’ cuisine as it is known is no exception. The Perigord is famous for its foie gras, duck and walnuts, all of which you will see featured on the menus of the large range of excellent restaurants we have on offer.

Experience a wonderful Michelin star meal, or the more home-style cooking of a family run restaurant for a ‘prix fixe’ menu – which often includes wine!

Cooking with local and home-grown fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables are a way of life in the Perigord. Delicious!

Experience has taught us that happy children make happy parents, so we pride ourselves on being baby, child and family friendly. Please contact us to hear more about our facilities for those travelling with babies and young children to make your family holiday as stress free as possible.

The entire house, grounds and pool are at your private disposal.

Kitchen and dining

Many of our guests have told us that our kitchen is better equipped than their own! We would hate to be on a self catering holiday without a decent knife, plenty of serving dishes and a kitchen scale and cake tins in case a touch of baking takes our fancy! We have lots of lovely cook books and magazines with simply hundreds of recipes for you to pour over.

Our kitchen is equipped with a six ring gas burner hob and an eye level electric oven plus a De Dietrich microwave/oven/turbo grill.

We have plenty of plates, cutlery and serving dishes as well as wine, champagne, cocktail and shot glasses.

We have large tables inside and out for dining with seating for all at each and high chairs for the little ones. We have a raised wooden floor dining area indoors and a beautiful decked area outside of the French doors from the kitchen shaded by an old lime tree. A pergola with voile drapes completes the picture at the pool, along with a fridge to keep drinks and food cool.

Living rooms

Our old oak bar in the Main Living Room is a feature of Le Cheval Blanc. Enjoy an aperitif sitting at the bar on one of the bar stools, or settle back into our comfy sofa and armchairs - there's seating for everyone - before moving to the raised dining area to sit at our long wooden tables for dinner.

Is there a budding mixologist in your party? If so we have cocktail recipe books and all the stirrers and shakers and cocktail glasses you could possibly require!

The Main Living Room has several different areas that are conveniently zoned with lighting, making it easy to create a focus.

Alternatively we have the Garden Room which is great to peacefully read a book, that is if the little ones haven't commandeered it as their playroom!

For film buffs we have the Movie Room equipped with BluRay and surround-sound to enjoy an offering from the extensive dvd collection. There's a dvd for all tastes and all ages.

At Le Cheval Blanc we have cots for the little ones and can sometimes supply an extra bed if required. Please ask and we will advise the best rooms for this.

Heating

As most of our guests visit Le Cheval Blanc in the warmer months, heating is not usually required.

However, if you are visiting earlier or later in the year and want to feel cosy in the evenings, we have a large log burner and a portable pot-belly style gas burner stove in the main living area.

We can also supply electric radiators for the bedrooms.

In the warmer months we also have several fans for our guests to help to keep you cool.

Entertainment

There is plenty to keep our guests entertained at Le Cheval Blanc.

We have a huge selection of good, page turning paperbacks, if getting into a good book is your thing. We also have a chess/draughts table in the main living room and a table tennis table that has seen many hard fought tournaments in the garden.

There is also a good selection of board games and quizzes and even some murder mysteries for you and your group to solve. Lots of jigsaw puzzles too.

If you want to escape to the Movie Room there are a range of dvds for all ages and tastes, including some BluRays for you to enjoy the full BluRay experience with surround-sound.

The pool has some pool toys and pool spaghetti, but feel free to bring your own too.

Garden and outside

The front of the house is where you will find our super decked dining area under the shade of the old lime tree. This is just outside of the French doors from the kitchen where you will find the gas bbq next to the bed of fresh herbs.

On the other side of the front garden is our cushioned seated pergola, perfect for those aperos and sundowners at the end of the day, or a great place for a snooze in the shade or read a book and a great viewing area for those table tennis tournaments! This is also where you will find our swing seat. We love to sit here and watch the antics of the birds hopping in and out of the honeysuckle and creeper that covers the front of the house.

Over at the pool there are several sunbeds and also a pergola with billowing voile drapes covering the large dining table and chairs. Feel free to take the bbq over for poolside dining. There is also a fridge for keeping everything cool.

Washing dries quickly in the warm sunshine in our pretty back garden.

We have parking for several cars, two of which can be parked under cover.
