Welcome to Beaux Souvenirs, a superb gite brand new to the market for 2018. Part of a 19th century stone built coach house with a beautiful garden filled with fruit trees and flowering plants surrounding a magnificent swimming pool. The property layout is unsuitable for children and therefore it is listed as accommodation for adults only.
It’s located at the heart of a national county park in the Perigord Vert, the Northern region of the beautiful Dordogne. So aptly named for the greenery of its forests and meadows, rivers and rolling hills. The village of Miallet is one of its prettiest traditional villages and the property is just a few minutes’ walk from the quaint village square. Here can be found a superb butcher who also sells local produce and bread, a small grocery shop with off-licence and a cheese counter. There is a chemist, doctor, and physio, a newsagent selling stamps and a small selection of British newspapers. The L’Oreal hairdresser speaks a little English, and why not dine at the bistro or the brasserie where you can sit outside under trees and listen to the occasional band on a Saturday night.
Beaux Souvenirs has secure parking and its own entrance and separate exit to the garden.
The interior decor is an eclectic blend of old and new, vintage and modern, offering an interesting twist to the building's traditional features. The large, open plan lounge/kitchen/diner has plenty of room to chill out after a long day, and the smart TV is perfect for catching up on all your favourite programmes. Upstairs there are two lovely double bedrooms with very comfortable sprung king-size beds. On the ground level, enjoy the gorgeous bathroom with twin vanity units, toilet, and spacious walk-in shower. Included for your convenience are quality bed linen, bathrobes, towels and pool towels too.
The French doors in the kitchen lead to a shaded patio with an outside table, lounging chairs, and barbecue. The 12m x 6m in-ground swimming pool is exclusively for the use of guests. With crystal clear air and sky at night full of stars, our gite is a perfectly placed for relaxation and to completely unwind.
The location is perfect for sightseeing as many are within an hours radius of the property. There are numerous chateaux, gardens, beautiful villages, Roman remains, UNESCO heritage sites, caves and prehistoric relics, Medieval Cities and so much more.
This region is one of the best in France for food and the area is renowned for duck, fois gras, black truffles, walnuts, strawberries, beef, apples, fruit liqueur and of course wine from Bergerac. Most restaurants and eateries incorporate these into their menus. There are two places to eat out in Miallet and many more in the surrounding villages too, including the Chateau Mavaleix just a ten-minute drive away.
The kitchen diner is well equipped for four people. It has fitted units, a fridge freezer, oven and hob, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, electric kettle and toaster. If you like cooking you may use the fruits and herbs from the garden.
You can dine on the vintage oak table in the gite or out on the table on the patio. Both intimate areas when the sun goes down to enjoy dinner and share a glass of wine. Off the kitchen is a storage room that is perfect for luggage.
The spacious living room continues on from the kitchen/dining area and has two large comfortable corner settees for relaxation. It has a very interesting display cabinet of Napoleonic memorabilia.
Within this area is a large screen smart tv, where you can catch up with British tv albeit one hour later! A dvd player and music system are there for your convenience too. Old original prints many with a French flavour adorn the walls throughout the accommodation.
On the upper level, there are two double bedrooms both the same size located on each side of the staircase. The gold room has a very comfortable deep sprung king size mattress housed in a beautiful French bed surround. The bed will be made up for you with quality cotton bed linen, a seasonal weighted duvet and you can have the choice of a microfibre or feather pillows. On each side of the bed, there is a bedside cupboard and lamp. You can browse the cabinet of curiosities and there are a wardrobe and chest of 4 drawers for storage.
The blue room also has a comfortable dressed king size bed and is furnished to the same high standard. It has two chests of drawers for storage and a hanging area. Both rooms also have long mirrors, Velux windows, and cooling fans.
On the ground floor is the large luxurious bathroom, with two vanity cabinets and sinks, a walk-in shower, a toilet and storage cabinet and linen basket. We supply top quality cotton bath towels, hand towels, face flannels and pool towels too. There is also a hairdryer for your convenience. Should you forget any major toiletries then the chemist in the village has a selection including makeup and the hairdresser stocks L’Oreal hair products. Off this room is a small utility area housing a top loading washing machine, ironing board and iron.
The accommodation is heated by electric heaters.
Should you wish to stay indoors, there is a smart television with UK programmes where you can get Netflix should you have an account. We have a cd music system and a DVD player.
There are also playing cards and board games for amusement.
There are many places to visit which are covered on our website www.yourfrenchstay.com and we include in the gite a comprehensive pack of information and leaflets on activities, tourist attractions and places of interest. You will also find some day out suggestions for when the time is of the essence and reading through leaflets and books are taking up your precious holiday time.
The three-quarter of an acre garden is truly lovely with a large selection of fruit trees, grapevines, and seasonal flowering plants. Depending on when you stay you may find wild strawberries and even the odd Cepe mushroom or two.
Relax on hessian seats on the patio and listen to the sounds of the many birds that visit the garden including the very pretty Hoopoe.
The pool is open from 9.30 am to 8.30 pm from the end of May to the end of September although this may be extended depending on the weather. Chill out on the numerous chairs and loungers surrounding the pool.
There is a gas barbeque right next to the outside table perfect for al fresco dining. From here you can watch the sun go down and then marvel at the thousands of stars in the night sky.
You will find many of the trees in the garden have lichen growing on them which is a good indication of just how clean the air is in this area.
We have secure off road private parking in front of the house available for guests.
The property is not suitable for children and is offered as an adult only retreat. It is perfect for two couples or a couple/two friends who like their own bedroom. For the comfort of our guests we have no pets and regret we do not accept bookings accompanied by pets either.
In terms of getting around, there is no local bus service so, a car is very much essential, and will enable you to get the maximum benefit from enjoying local activities and sightseeing.
If some guests love shopping and others don't, then we suggest being dropped off at the local station at La Coquille 10 minutes away wherein after 40-45 minutes they can arrive at either Limoges or Perigueux and shop without pressure!
Most shops in small villages and towns and tourist attractions close for lunch from 12 noon to 2pm leaving just the restaurants open. If you would prefer to take a picnic or packed lunch out with you then we have a handy cool box with ice blocks for you to use.
There are a lot of golf courses within easy reach, so should you fancy a game we have two golf sets that can be borrowed.
If you would like to read a daily national British newspaper just let us know a week before you arrive and we will ask our local newsagent to reserve it for you. The same goes for our hairdresser (she is very good) let us know and we will book you an appointment.
If you are here to celebrate something special and need help in the organisation, we would be delighted to help.
After a lifetime in Marketing and my partner William, ex-navy, and carpenter by trade, we yearned for a change of lifestyle and a new challenge. Having visited a couple of French property shows we found ourselves touring the Dordogne. One month later we were introduced to a dream property and hey presto! My passion is my vintage fashion business and William adores Tintin, Napoleon, and Wellington. We both enjoy antique hunting, car boot sales, and general history, plenty to keep us busy here!

|Why this location?||The Dordogne lies in the South West of France with warm weather. Having toured the entire area we liked the North the best. It was very green with quiet roads and plenty to do and see. There in the beautiful Perigord/Limousin Regional Natural Park, we found our perfect home in the pretty village of Miallet. The location was superb for local shops and close proximity to both a mainline railway station and Limoges airport.
In fact being close to the borders of the Limousin and Correze along with the Dordogne, we have the luxurious position of having activities and sightseeing opportunities in abundance.
Nearby there are numerous chateaux, gardens and beautiful villages to visit. Caves, prehistoric art, and Roman history is in abundance. Plus the beautiful medieval cities of Limoges and Perigueux are well worth a visit. The area is also one of the best places in France to be if you are a food lover. Discover local museums dedicated to Fois Gras and the world famous black truffle.
|Unique benefits of property||It’s unusual to find a holiday home with the best of all worlds. Not only is it easy to find, close to an airport, with a large private pool, but its village location means you can shop, eat local and just stay home relaxing by the pool. Further, if you don’t fancy driving far, La Coquille train station is just 9 minutes away by car and parking is free. Here, you can not only catch a train to both Perigueux and Limoges (great for boutique shopping, museums and markets), but you could also pick up a train direct to Bordeaux for the day, which is just over 2 hours away.
For those that like a bit of sport there are golf courses, fishing, biking and walking opportunities nearby. The Velorail is a quirky bike contraption on an old railway line where you meander through the countryside, something a bit different to do. Meanwhile, if you want to learn more about vintage fashion or buying a property in France, then we have heaps of experience and are happy to chat over a glass of wine!

This beautiful accommodation has been renovated to a very high standard and decorated with great care, the owners have added their own personal touches with antiques that really enhance the unique nature of this property. The gite was spotlessly clean on our arrival and the outside areas and garden are beautifully presented.
The kitchen is very well equipped and the owners have provided a huge range of equipment to accommodate the needs of the guests with some very thoughtful touches. There is a full oven and hob, fridge-freezer and microwave, outside there is an excellent gas BBQ. We ate most meals outside and it helped that the dining area was shaded by a tree.
The saline swimming pool was one of the highlights of our stay, it is perfect for cooling off and lounging around in and a real luxury to have it to ourselves, it was cleaned daily by the owners. The pool area has comfortable sun loungers and umbrellas which proved invaluable in the summer sun. Other amenities offered are an excellent stereo system, TV with DVD and wifi with plenty of comfortable seating if you wish to dine or relax inside.
The owners Vanessa and William were extremely hospitable and really welcoming, they went out of their way to recommend places to visit and things to do and provided a lot of information about the local area. In the many years we have been coming to France this was definitely the best gite we have stayed in. We would highly recommend it.
FIRST CLASS! My wife described our stay as "perfect". This is a beautiful property with plenty of space situated in the heart of a lovely rural village with all the amenities we needed. Located in a great tourist area but without being 'touristy', Beaux Souvenirs has two beautiful hearts behind it in the form of Vanessa and William. Their care was evident not just in the calibre of the accommodation with its attention to detail, but in their concern to meet our needs for space or companionship. Despite being within a village, the grounds are not overlooked and offered the perfect mix of pool, eating area, space, shade and wildlife in the form of resident little owls and geckos! From Beaux Souvenirs we were within easy driving distance of medieval towns, nature reserves, beautiful villages, restaurants and markets. It was perfect for us to be able to go out some days to accessible places of interest or equally to remain at Beaux Souvenirs to enjoy the peace and rest of this beautiful gite. The only hesitation that Susie and I would have about recommending Beaux Souvenirs is that we wouldn't want anyone else to go there - which is probably the highest recommendation we could give! The cat is now out of the bag......
