About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Linda Metcalfe

So excited to be finally here in France! We moved early 2018 and have fully renovated a large two bedroom gite in the Dordogne.<br/>It has been our dream for a few years so I decided I would retire from teaching July 2017 and take the plunge, eventually finding our new home in the heart of rolling countryside. Hard work has certainly paid off, producing a beautiful holiday retreat like nothing else in the area. We are surrounded by beautiful countryside yet close to the touristy places too!

Year property purchased 2017
Why this location? We chose this location in Dordogne because of its outstanding beauty and superb climate. It is close to the Charente border. Only 7 km from historic Aubeterre sur Dronne - one of the official 'beaux villages' of France, where there is a bathing beach and some spectacular views from the top of the village. Close also to the pretty market town of Riberac (8km) where there are all amenities, a fabulous Friday market, brocantes, restaurants and much more.
We are ideally placed for Bordeaux - just an hour away, as well as for further exploration of the lovely Dordogne valley - Sarlat, Eymet, Rocamadour etc. There are wine tours close by as well as many sports and leisure facilities to choose from such as canoeing, tennis, bathing beaches, walking, hiking etc.
There are several airports close by serving low cost airlines, making it easily accessible.
Unique benefits of property The gite is newly refurbished, offering two very large family sized rooms, tastefully and sympathetically furnished using quality bed linen and complimentary toiletries, to ensure a comfortable night's sleep. It is suitable for couples, families as well as small groups as we can also offer a cot and single beds too.
The living room is also spacious with a comfortable seating area, flatscreen tv, dvd/cd player and satellite channels, with a selection of English and French films if you require them. Soft furnishings have been chosen to compliment this new interior.
It also has a dining area, seating 6 people very comfortably, together with a range of crockery, for indoor dining. The kitchen is modern with all conveniences - dishwasher, hob/oven, fridge-freezer, microwave etc.
The bathroom always causes a stir - it is huge! Tastefully decorated with Egyptian cotton towels.
Outside there is a private garden/patio area and bbq with seating for six. Visitors have use of our 2 acre garden

The Owner Recommends

Le Grand Etang de La Jamaye

Le Grand Etang de La Jamaye - an area of outstanding beauty, offering swimming (lifeguard in high season), white sandy beaches, clean lake bathing, great restaurant, cafe bars, forest walks and environmentally important. Only 12 km away it is well worth a visit and one of our favourites! Free canoeing is also available (one hour), body boarding and water skiing.

Aubeterre sur Dronne just 8 minutes away

Aubeterre sur Dronne - a Beaux Village en France - and it's official! A beautiful, historic village indeed and only 7km away from our Gite La Petite Maison Au Coin, situated in the Charente Department. Spectacular cliff side village with an historic 12th century subterranean church of St Jean. Sunday morning market and pretty shops and restaurants too.
Its spectacular river bathing beach is amazing, with cafe, tennis, canoeing, kayaking and much more - who needs the coast?

Riberac, pretty little market town

Riberac - Friday morning the square comes alive with its market - said to be the largest in the Perigord region. Fantastic range of stalls. Evenings see the cafes and restaurants come alive with live music events to please everyone. Food choice is varied and very good quality.
Many supermarkets and most banks can be found here; a thriving, bustling town.

Verteillac - great for Sunday lunch at La Calice or evening meal at L'Escalier and the monthly brocante/vide grenier. Pretty little village about 20 minutes away.

Saint Aulaye

Saint Aulaye - also offering clean, safe river bathing beach and lovely riverside cafe/pizzeria. A larger village built in 1288, with pretty streets offering most amenities and cafes/restaurants. It also has a cognac museum! Only 10 minutes from our gite it is a popular village where you will find an 11th century church. The beach is on the River Dronne and very popular in Summer months.

The Dordogne Valley

Dordogne Valley - spectacular Dordogne villages around an hour's drive away among the vineyards - far too many to mention, but our favourites are: Sarlat la Caneda, La Roque Gageat, Beynac, Domme, Issigeac, Eymet, Rocamadour...and many more.

St Emilion Vineyards and more

Saint-Emilion is a charming medieval village located in the heart of the famous Bordeaux wine area. It is a very unique World Heritage site where world-famous wineries, fine wine, beautiful architecture and great monuments are a perfect match.
If you like savouring your glass of wine with a nice lunch or dinner, a lot of restaurants and quality table d’hôtes are waiting for you in the city and the vineyard!

Cycling - Dordogne

Quiet country roads to suit all levels of riding, beautiful scenery and good weather mean that this region is perfect for cycling. The Dordogne is a treasure of natural beauty and is exceptionally rich in prehistoric sites and historical points of interest. Optimum weather conditions for cycling are from March to November.
If you choose not to bring your bike with you on your Dordogne holiday - and with airlines charging carriage these days for your bike & the possibility of loss or damage to your pride and joy during transit, there are good reasons to leave your bike at home.

Not to panic though, if you are a keen cyclist, there are several top notch rental stores in Dordogne that will kit you out with the newest and best quality bikes for the duration of your holiday. We can arrange for bikes to be dropped off at the gite and collected from here also, so please enquire when booking!

Le Bournat just over an hour away

Theme park recreating 19th-century village life with demonstrations, fairground & dining. A great place to do something a little different. Suitable for all ages, it has some of the oldest amusements including a beautiful, original carousel

Perigord Vert Adventures - Just an hour away!

This amazing place is just like Go Ape - Adventurers or thrill seekers, discover the different courses in complete safety!
Look no further where to eat after a day spent in the park, as there are a few eateries in there.
The park - Périgord Vert Aventures is located north of Perigord, at the edge of the pond Nouailles in the Dordogne. Enjoy the attractions in a natural setting.
If you like tree climbing and thrills your wish will be fulfilled, with the acrobatic courses in the trees suitable for most ages.

This is a truly magnificent gite. Spacious, beautifully furnished and ideal for families and couples alike.
Set in a very quiet location but close to towns and villages. set in beautiful countryside and we won't forget the beautiful sunsets view from the top of the owner's meadow. We chose to stay close to the gite but were still able to visit lakes with beaches and woodland walks, pretty villages (Aubeterre-sur-Dronne is exquisite and has a lovely square with cafes and restaurants). The property is well place for those who wish to explore the heart of the beautiful (but much busier) Dordogne .
