The Dordogne provides a fantastic location for family holidays. With easy access by both sea and air, the Aquitaine region typifies life in rural France. The gastronomic delights that bring French holiday makers to the area is complemented by the variety of local wines that are renowned world-wide. From the stunning scenery of the upper Dordogne and Vezere valleys to the more understated rolling hills of the southern borders, the area encompasses all aspects that you would expect from a French holiday. Obviously the weather in this south west corner of France is a huge draw for many holiday-makers and coupled with swimming pools, lakes, rivers and access to the sea, it makes an ideal location for a retreat. Visitors can choose how to structure their time here, either making the most of all the outdoor activities or for the more chilled approach, just making use of the variety of local restaurants and relaxing in the pool back at the gite.
Dearbhla and Paul have been living in the Dordogne since 2003 and have 2 children that were born in France. Formally an engineer in the UK, Paul has worked all over Europe and lived for 3 years in Germany before moving to France. Dearbhla's past life, working in the City of London seems eons away from their current routines, set in the beautiful rural setting in this fantastic corner of the Perigordian countryside. Only 20 mins from Bergerac and its airport, Le Roudier is a real paradise.

|Unique benefits of property||Your stay at Le Roudier provides the ideal sanctuary to allow you to fully embrace this fantastic corner of France. Our location is perfect for access to all of the surrounding places of interest. From the Bastide towns that give beautiful medieval backdrops to restaurants and bars to the vast array of activities including canoeing, caving, horse riding, golf, hot air ballooning...
The rich history of the region is everywhere and it allows our visitors to fully immerse themselves in the relaxed tempo of French life. Le Roudier offers many on site facilities and being situated within over 30 acres of private gardens, woodland and pastureland, this retreat can be as relaxing or energetic as you choose. The shared football pitch to the North side of the gardens is a safe place for the children to expend their energy. The heated private swimming pool and jacuzzi is the ideal place to enjoy the panoramic views across the valley which forms the Southern boundary.
The Chateau de Bridoire is a place to step back in history and also a great place for families as it specialises in traditional games.
This family run restaurant delivers Perigourdine cuisine at its best. Be prepared to for a long lunch or dinner, with drinks included. It's a must visit.
La Maison is one property within a complex and it is large and spacious. The lounge area is roomy, comfortable and well furnished. The kitchen is spacious with plenty of equipment. All four bedrooms are of a very good size, two with en-suites which the other two bedrooms share. However, the property is tired and needs some updating both in terms of decorating and more modern equipment and furnishings and the immediate surroundings, which include a heated pool and hot tub with a small play area for children, again need updating. In some instances the children’s equipment and flooring are verging on dangerous.
The owners are very pleasant and we’re willing to rectify any problems that they could.
Just to rectify that this property has THREE bedrooms with ensuite facilities and the fourth is a shared bathroom. The Ikea sofas in the lounge are only 1 year old and the 60" flat screen TV with Freeview, French TV and Apple TV are an addition this year. I'm not sure what more modern equipment is required in a 300 year old barn conversion.
Living on-site means that we are on hand for the whole time and frequent contact with these guests never revealed ANY of the listed concerns. The 1 highlighted problem during their stay was a non-functionning jet in the hot tub that was rectified within 12 hours.
The clients arrived to celebrate a family birthday and along with our courtesy wine in each property, we left 2 bottles of Sparkling White and Rose with a small card wishing them 'Happy Birthday'. This gesture was not even acknowledged which I think says enough!!
