A Beautiful Converted Stone Barn. This cottage/gite is in a village setting.

Open for Christmas and New Year!! We are an ideal location for cycling, walking and sightseeing, including the brand new Lascaux 4 just 6km from La Grange Mirabelle. But if you want somewhere just to relaxing, it is ideal.

The property benefits from central heating throughout, so that whatever time of the year, you are warm and comfortable . A well appointed 3 bedroom 2 bathroom property sleeping up to six people. The ground floor consists of a comfortable family open living space, with separate sitting, dining and kitchen areas. Facilities include satellite tv (UK free sat) and a european TNT satelite box with a range of French/German/Spanish tv available for our guests. A dvd player and play station 2, with a variety of games. Free wi-fi access.

The lounge has comfortable seating for al the family. The kitchen area is fitted with a range of floor and wall cupboards along with dishwasher, washing machine, full size electric cooker, microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee maker, and fridge /freezer. There is a full range of crockery, glassware and cooking utensils at your disposal. Hot water is provided by gas, which also services the radiators in the cooler months, (in off peak months there may be an additional charge for heating).

The open plan staircase leads to the first floor which comprises of three good size bedrooms. Bedroom one has a double bed with wardrobe and chest of drawers. This room also has access to an en-suite shower room with shower cubicle, wash basin and wc. Bedroom 2 has two single beds and a chest of drawers and a wardrobe. Bedroom 3 has two single beds with wardrobe and chest of drawers. All bedrooms have additional box storage if needed. The family bathroom comprises of bath with shower above, wash basin and wc. Towels, and bed linen are provided, and changed weekly for those staying longer. NEW for 2018, we can provide you with pool towels at a nominal charge of 2€ each, to give you that little extra space for those special things you want to bring with you for your holiday, just ask on booking.

Outside there are two terraces, the main terrace is of wood decking , with a table, comfortable chairs and tonnelle (canopy) for your comfort. There is also a large charcoal barbecue. The garden area leads directly to the Swimming pool, which is a 10mx5m salt water heated pool with thermal cover ( heated May to the end of September). No chlorine avoids skin irritation or sore eyes. The pool area is fenced, but also has a pool alarm which is to French safety standards. There are loungers for all our guests, and parasols for your comfort in this area.

Local amenities in the village include a childrens play area with picnic tables just 50 metres away and a boulangerie with daily fresh Artisan bread, croissants etc. A family run Ferme Auberge is 1km, with a second good restaurant just a further 1/2 km. There are local markets held in the area every day of the week.

This is an excellent area for both walking and cycling, with many waymarked walks, both from the village and within a twenty minute drive. It can get very hot in July and August so the best months for these activities are May, June, September and October. Cycling from the village is a sheer joy with good roads which are generally quiet, and whether you just want to cycle to a nearby village for a coffee, or do a serious ride then this area is definitely worth considering. The owner is a keen cyclist, so can advise routes for the novice and the serious rider. Off road there are many trails accessed from the village, so no need to take the car. We can provide secure storage for your bikes during your stay, and also advise on bikes available to rent during your stay.



Kitchen and dining

There is a fully fitted kitchen within the ground floor living space with a range of floor and wall cupboards. Appliances include a cooker, fridge freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster and coffee machine. There is also an automatic washing machine, and a dishwasher to make your holiday a pleasurable experience. The dining area comprises of a beautiful solid oak table and chairs, and seats six. We offer a high chair for the smaller people visiting, if required.

Living rooms

The living area has two 3 seater leather sofas, plus an arm chair, ideal if you prefer something a little higher.
The television offers a range of UK or European channels, the choice is yours, a dvd player, playstation 2 and a stereo music system. The garden area is accessible via double doors where you will find additional seating for 6 persons for alfresco cooking.


The accommodation offers 3 bedrooms in all, two of which have twin beds, with a third comprising of a double bed, and ensuite shower room. Each room has a wardrobe and chests of draws, and bedside lights for your convenience.
We are able to convert a second room to a double on request.


There are two bathrooms in all, one is an en-suite attached to the double bedroom and comprises of a shower cubicle, washbasin and wc. The other is a family bathroom which comprises of a bath with shower fitting and screen, washbasin and wc.


There is gas central heating throughout if required.


As well as the tv, dvd player and playstation there are various board games, books for loan, boules, badminton rackets and an outside table tennis table, for our guests to use during their stay.

Garden and outside

Outside there is a private garden with built in barbecue and a covered terrace with table and chairs for outside dining/relaxing. The garden leads to a 10m x 5m heated swimming pool with loungers for 6 people, the pool is fenced and fitted with an alarm to meet French safety requirements.

Parking and garages

Parking is on a private driveway, directly in front of the house, with electric gates for added security.

Visitor suitability

All the bedrooms and bathrooms are on the first floor which is accessed by a wide oak staircase, and would be unsuitable to any who cannot manage stairs.

We made the decision in 2009 to both take early retirement, and relocate to France, after spending a wonderful weekend with friends who also lived in the Dordogne. Over the next two years we took on total renovation of two stone barns, set in the centre of the village, and today enjoy being able to share our amazing life here, with our guests of all nationalities, throughout the year.

Why this location? One criteria we had was to live in a village and this property fitted the bill perfectly. It is in the village centre of about 20 properties in all, everyone is so friendly and welcoming, but it is also very peaceful. The beautiful medieval town of Sarlat is just 18km, and offers something for everyone. A wealth of history can be found as you walk around the streets, straying up the small alleys between buildings, or you can view the town from a modern glass lift as it rises in the rafters of the old church, now the indoor market hall. The night markets, with their wonderful choice of foods, and often live entertainment, bring to life the surrounding villages, each with its own speciality. You can choose to do as much or as little as you want. The Vezere River runs directly through Montignac offering the opportunity to enjoy your surroundings from a canoe, stopping off on the way for a snack or lunch at a local bar. So much to do, so much to see!

It is well placed to visit many of the sites of interest in the Perigord Noir, with its wealth of prehistoric sites, Chateaux and Castles, not to mention the numerous pretty villages. Plus after spending a busy day site seeing, you can return home for some 'you time', in the large heated pool, or just relax in the garden. We offer a high standard of accommodation to meet your needs, facilities include private use of our large heated swimming pool, and a private garden with secure parking. La Grange Mirabelle is centrally based to visit many sites of Unesco interest, but also places offering a range of entertainments and facilities for all ages. We have Caves and Castles, Chateaux, and numerous things for those wanting something a little more energetic.

This medieval town is one of the most popular tourist attractions in France, and although busy in summer, it is a must to visit. Take time to explore the small lanes and cul de sacs, and sit in the town square for a coffee or wine, and watch the world go by. It never disappoints our guests. In July and August you will find street entertainers each evening.
