Lafont is an old farm steading set within spacious gardens and grounds. The gite is converted from part of the old barn and has a wealth of original features including exposed beams and beautiful stone walls. The gite is open-plan with a mezzanine bedroom and a fully-fitted, well-equipped modern kitchen with dishwasher, electric oven, gas hob and fridge. The bathroom has a walk-in Italian type shower, WC and wash basin.
Lafont gite lies opposite the owners' house in a private setting, backing on to the orchard which has an abundance of trees including pear, fig, cherry, plum,apple, walnut and a very old medlar. The gite is ideal for a couple seeking a quiet get-away but within very easy reach of all amenities. It benefits from its own patio with table and chairs for outdoor eating as well as a large parasol. There are also reclining chairs and a bbq.
Guests have use of the shared swimming pool where sun loungers are provided. There are superb views over the surrounding countryside from the pool terrace - a great place to sit watching the sun go down. There is also a games room with pool table and dart board. Wi-fi is available and the gite also has a tv with English Freeview channels. Bikes are available. Parking is within the grounds.
Lafont gite is rural but not isolated; the lively village of Verteillac is a few minutes’ drive. Verteillac has a boulangerie, butchers, bank,general store, pharmacy and several bars and restaurants. A number of bars and restaurants are very close by at St Martial Viveyrols, Bouteilles St Sebastian and Lusignac.
There is an abundance of wildlife around Lafont: we have resident red squirrels in the garden and there are often deer in the fields and owls can be heard hooting at night. Well-behaved pets are very welcome and there are superb walks right from the door. Lafont has generous grounds including large lawned areas in which guests are free to wander, throw a ball for the dog or sit beneath a shady tree. Lafont is also home to Archery Dordogne so guests can try their hand at this ancient sport under Ian's expert tuition.
Riberac, with its not to be missed Friday market and supermarkets, is a short 10 minute drive away. Canoeing is available on the Dronne river which flows through Riberac. Canoeing is also available at Aubeterre, one of France's most beautiful villages, which is a 15 minute drive away. A stunning hillside village, Aubeterre has a subterranean church as well as a very picturesque square with bars and restaurants in which to sit and watch the world go by.
Well behaved pets are very welcome at Lafont. We have our own dogs so your pet must be sociable and friendly. Bed and Breakfast accommodation is also available in the main house.

Lafont is owned by Ian and Cathy Hendy. The property was a French owned private residence that had been in the same family for generations. Originally a small farm, the property has its own well, bread oven and traditional outbuildings. Ian and Cathy have sympathetically restored the buildings and helped return the extensive gardens to their former glory. Ian’s background is in farming, property development and the outdoor activity industry. Ian offers archery lessons at the house.

Verteillac is a 5 minute drive from the house and is a lovely village with bars, restaurants and shops. There is also a bank and tourist information office. It is a lively village with a weekly Saturday morning market and a famous brocante held on the first Sunday of every month. During the summer there are evening markets where you can buy direct from the producer and have your food cooked there and then. Great social occasion with entertainment thrown in.
As well as having two large supermarkets, Riberac has a must-see Friday morning market. You can buy anything from flowers through to crafts, clothes and the all-important food. It's a feast of the senses and well worth a visit. The Dronne runs through the town and there are canoes for hire.
Aubeterre is a stunning hillside village 20 minutes away by car that is a must see. The village itself is full of narrow streets, quirky shops and numerous bars and restaurants. Have lunch in one of the restaurants in the tree-lined village square and then visit the subterranean church. There is also a riverside beach with canoes available for hire.
Brantome is known as the "Venice of Perigord". The river Dronne meanders through the town in a big loop. There are guided boat trips and canoes for hire. The town is dominated by the huge abbey and former monastery. There are numerous restaurants catering from burgers to fine dining. Nearby is Brantome Police Horses a charity which looks after retired UK police horses. The visit and afternoon tea is a must for anyone, horsey-minded or not.
