Villa Duroux represents a change of life for the owners Richard and Aleksandra who moved to France in 2017 to follow their dream of the country life in France. Having worked in the oil industry for a combined 40 years, it was time to take on a fresh challenge and after viewing more than 70 properties, Villa Duroux in Montagrier became the new home for them and their two young daughters Sophie and Sienna. Our family lives on site in the converted barn building Sous Chez Duroux.

|Unique benefits of property||We have 2 stylish and fully equipped Villas nestled among the Sunflower fields with a large heated salt water pool available for our guests. Each has been extensively refurbished in 2018 whilst remaining in keeping with a countryside house with over 200 years of rural history. Our grounds amount to 2 hectares of agricultural evolution and feature a small wood, streamlined fields, vegetable path and fruit trees which provide crops from Cherries in June to Walnuts in October.
Our Villas are styled to be calm and comfortable in order that your stay at Villa Duroux is a pleasure. With over 40 years of global travel experience between us, we have endeavoured to ensure that both Villas are equipped to the highest standard and can provide the flexibility required for both families and individual travellers.
One of our favourite places to eat. The restaurant sits on a quiet square in a tiny village, which is only 2 km away from Villa Duroux. It has a lovely terrace under a canopy of trees and the room inside is airy and very pleasant. Inventive recipes, reasonably priced, locally sourced. Service is excellent and dedicated to satisfy the customer. This is true French Cuisine without the Michelin prices!
Located in the middle of our local town Montagrier and just 1 km from Villa Duroux the auberge is hosted by Yannick and his team. Dining is typically French cuisine and the restaurant offers both internal and al fresco dining. The enormous grapevines which shelter the courtyard give the perfect backdrop for Summer evening gatherings. Both formule and à la carte menus are available.
A busy riverside restaurant with a diverse menu awaits you at Lisle which is just 5 km from Villa Duroux. This old Mill and trout farm has been converted into a modern restaurant with a wonderful view of the river Dronne. The owner Chef takes pride in providing meals main primarily from local Perigordine ingredients.
Set under the tree lined avenue of the local town square , Rouge specialises in a fusion menu and also has theme related menus such as Ribs nite from which you will not go home hungry and Friday Fish n chips.
Known locally as the Venice of the Dordogne ( canoes not gondolas) Brantome market on Fridays during the Summer is a wonderful fusion of local French produce and colourful market stalls. Spend the morning browsing the stalls throughout the town and then settle down to a riverside meal at one of the many cafes and restaurants before having a siesta in the local park listening to the gentle flow of the water.
Just 20 minutes ride from Villa Duroux La Jamaye is a real jewel. The lake is home to both fishermen and sun worshippers as there are separate areas of sandy beach and fishing hideaways. You can take a short or long walk through the pine forest and nature reserve which borders the lake. This is a favourite picnic site but also has its own restaurant and bar for those drinks and ice creams on a hot day.
The capital of the Dordogne region lies a short 25 km from Villa Duroux. The city has much to offer from historic cathedral buildings with spectacular architecture, to medieval ruins and a thoroughly modern shopping centre. As you might imagine there is no shortage of restaurants and café bars in this vibrant city which is also home in the summer to night markets and Marches Gourmand complete with live music. These are a « must do « attraction during the Summer.
A wonderful view of the town and the river Dronne awaits you after climbing the 122 steps of the Chateaus tower. The Château also offers a furniture museum set over several floors of the Château showing us how the other half lived over the centuries. Once through with the Chateau the small town square is always a good place for refreshments and a reminder of the tranquillity of the Dordogne.
Dordogne is well endowed with caves and grottos with the world famous Lascaux caves situated about 1 hour from Villa Duroux. Closer to home we have the Grotte de Villars which is well worth a visit. The site has a 40 minute guided tour of the caves and outside the caves there is a well presented pre-historic theme park showing how early man lived.
Just a 15 minute ride from Villa Duroux there is a well kept parkland course on the outskirts of Perigueux. The complex has 18 holes a driving range and a comfortable 19th hole. There is also a 9 hole course close by in Aubeterre.
The region has no shortage of riverside banks and lazy stretches of water which are fun for canoeing. Our particular favourite is the run from Lisle to Tocane St Apre which can be either a 1 or 2 hour experience. The river has just enough faster water and weirs to make the run exciting but also safe for families with younger children.
Friday evenings in Montagrier during high season ( mid July to end August) are a wonderful time to spend in Montagrier, either at the Auberge or just buy your dinner at one of the local food stalls and your local wine and craft beer from the stall next door before joining the fun at one of the communal tables and listen to the live music.
For the adventurers amongst our guests who would like to enjoy to views of Dordogne from sky, there is an opportunity to book a microlight flight. These are assisted flights with a professional pilot.
