We've been married over 25 years (how time flies when you're having fun). We moved to the area in 2003, after redundancy, in search of an "adventure" and to escape the city rat race. We've never looked back. We live here permanently, absolutely love the life and the area. So much so, that all our family now live in France within 25 minutes of us. None of us would even contemplate going back to the UK, it's great to visit, but for us, this is home. We went from being bankers to builders.
Year property purchased | 2003 |

Why this location? | It is a beautiful location set in stunning rolling countryside. It's incredibly peaceful, yet just minutes away from all the most popular tourist attractions. It's also within easy reach of the major towns - the regional capital Perigueux, Sarlat and Bergerac, very handy for the airport. Cendrieux is a working village, with lots happening throughout the year. We even have night markets in summer. |
Unique benefits of property | Peace and tranquility, yet amazing facilities. Fully equipped kitchens (we challenge you to find anything we have forgotten), heated and covered pool, hot tub/jacuzzi, plenty of bathrooms and very comfortable beds! We provide a very personal service, if you want it. Recommending restaurants (and booking them), places to visit - how to make the most of your stay. Many of our guests are repeat visitors, some of whom booked 12 months ahead, before they've even left. That says a massive amount about the holiday we offer. We promise you won't be disappointed. |

Towns and villages
Many of the architectural riches of the Dordogne Valley were created in the medieval period when the Hundred Years War raged and Kings and Lords on both sides of the conflict built fortified castles, churches, towns and villages to protect themselves from attack.
The Bastide towns preserve evidence of how people lived during those troubled times. There are many nearby - Vergt, Domme, Lalinde, Monpazier, Beaumont, Issigeac, Eymet.

Enjoy shopping the local way at one of the many local markets, which are held every day of the week throughout the summer.
We are well served by a number of supermarkets in the local area. Many of the shops close for lunch, generally between 12pm- 2pm, although in high season, July & August, the supermarkets are often open all day.
The supermarkets stock everything from swimming pools & clothes to all your food & wine.
The village store has fresh bread & croissants every day (except Monday) from about 9.30am & 3pm. It is possible to order your bread, as he sells out fast in the summer. He also sells all the essentials – wine, beer, snacks, fresh salad & vegetables, cheese, yogurts etc, but only a very limited range of fresh meat such as burgers.
Markets
Generally all the markets are held in the morning & close around 1pm. Some of the markets are very much for locals – such as our nearest in Vergt. These give you a colourful insight into the French way of life. Others are a combination of locals & touristy stalls – such as le Bugue, which is well worth a visit.
Marche Nocture/Gourmand
In the summer, there are also numerous “marche noctures or marche gourmand” - evening markets.
These are rather like a food hall, where the village squares are filled with tables & chairs, and surrounded by a number of different food stalls. You can buy your bread, wine, and a range of food. There is normally some sort of live music & sometimes a few stalls selling jewellery etc. Just take a picnic set, as knives & forks/ glasses are not normally supplied. Normally a great evening out in beautiful surroundings.
