About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Bridget Dawson

We fell in love with the French countryside and way of life many years ago and finally made the move to live here. No regrets and so far still loving it.

Year property purchased 2016
Why this location? We have visited every department of France but this was by far our favourite, it just seems very special. It has everything we could wish for, beautiful walks and cycle tracks, historic towns and Chateau's, markets galore, great restaurants and bars nearby. Peaceful but plenty to do if you want it. For us it stirs our senses. We wake up, look around us and feel very honoured to be living here.
Unique benefits of property To us it's magical. It simply stirs your senses! The cottage is pretty and set within very pleasant gardens. It sits adjacent to a little 'chemin' one of the local walking routes, you can step outside and walk though tracks and woodland. The swimming pool (can be enjoyed Mid May to end of Sept) its so peaceful and private here yet only a few minutes drive to restaurants, beautiful chateau, medieval towns and river filled valleys. There is plenty to do and see around us.
Canoe and picnic down the stunning rivers. Trace the steps of Richard the Lionheart or follow through the underground passages of incredible neolithic caves, you can live and breathe history around us. If shopping is your thing then the wonderful towns like Perigueux and Brantome offer artisan shopping and food markets. Antique /flea markets and many open air music festivals take place June to Sept as well. The city of Limoges is 50 mins drive. Come and enjoy the local fete 27th & 28th July.

We had a wonderful holiday at La Jolie Cottage. The gite is in a lovely countryside position, just outside of Excideuil. The gite is beautifully decorated and includes everything you need for a relaxing stay. Bridget and Sean have thought of everything and went above and beyond to help us have a memorable holiday.

The gite location is perfect for those who want to get away from it all, but close enough to nearby amenities. Excideuil is a short drive away and has a large supermarket with long opening hours. The local restaurant provides a good choice of burgers, pizzas etc. A little further afield, the market town of Thiviers is well worth a visit, while Périgueux is another great day out. We particularly enjoyed visiting various markets and dining at the Les Temps des Mets restaurant in the beautiful St Jean de Côle.

At the gite, the pool is fantastic and we spent many a day relaxing and enjoying the tranquil surroundings. There are various beautiful countryside walks accessed from the house and cycling in the area is superb.

Bridget and Sean were great hosts and offered lots of suggestions for day trips, shopping and restaurants. They even organised a restaurant booking for my wife’s birthday. We definitely plan to return next year and can’t recommend La Jolie Cottage enough.

Owner response

David and his Wife were delightful guests and it was a pleasure to host them and the amazing Buddy at Jolie Cottage. They left the property spotless and we had many a friendly chat with them both whilst they were here. Really pleased you enjoyed the experience and we would love to welcome you both back (including Buddy), ideal guests....

Bridget Dawson, the owner of this property answered any questions I had promptly, keeping us informed of what was going on in the area during our stay, generously offering to get some food in for us as the day we were to arrive was a public holiday and many shops would be closed.

Bridget welcomed us on arrival, giving us a quick tour of the gite then invited us to join her and her husband for a BBQ, which we gratefully accepted.

Once back to the gite we soon made ourselves feel at home, everything was provided that we could possibly require. The building had such character and was positioned in the most magical setting, with a crystal clear pool just a few steps away. Many an hour spent reading on sun loungers provided, listening to nothing but the breeze blowing through the trees & an endless chorus of birdsong.

Relaxation was our main focus of our stay, cooking on the BBQ & sipping wine in the sunshine. We attended a number of local restaurants which were only a short drive away, discovering them was easy due to a detailed folder put together by Bridget of local eateries and attractions. Incredible food and friendly service throughout.

I truly cannot recommend La Jolie cottage enough, Bridget & Shaun have thought of everything to help make your stay one that you will always look back on with utter fondness and will always at hand if needed for anything. My only regret, was having to leave somewhere that somehow became our home for those very special 7 days

Owner response

What can I say. You were marvellous guests and we’re so happy that the gite exceeded your expectations. I thank you so much for taking your valuable time and posting such a fabulous review. It’s really appreciated. It’s so important to us that guests have a great experience and enjoy their time here. Hope to see you again
