The Owner Recommends

Brantome

A beautiful village located on the banks of the river Dronne, known locally as Venice of Périgord and only a drive of 29km. The Benedictine Abbey has its origins dating back to the 8th century. At the foot of the cliffs that loom behind the village, you can find the troglodyte dwellings, these were used by the original monks from the abbey and where you can find the sculpture of "The Last Judgement". You can amble through the beautiful streets, brouse through the shops or sit and enjoy and meal in one of the many restaurants.
Brantome hosts its market on a Friday.

Bourdeilles

Located not far from Brantome, located on the banks of the river Dronne. Chateaux de Bourdeilles dominated the village. It's two distinct castles, one older, the second more recent renaissance one. A beautiful village to spend a relaxing summer afternoon, perhaps with a picnic by the river and a cool glass of wine.

Nontron

A very beautiful French village with many restaurants, bars to have lunch, or just a coffee. If you would just prefer a walk, then there are a range of public gardens in the shadow of the Chateaux. There are a number of medieval half timber framed houses in the old part of the town. Nontron has a long history reputedly dating back 3000 years, there has been evidence of prehistoric settlement in the area.
Market day is Saturday.

Riberac

Riberac's Friday market is reputed to be the biggest in the Périgord, well worth a visit. Eglise Notre Dame is a fairly new church built in the late 30's, reminiscent of the nearby Cathedral of Perigeaux. Riberac has a number of restaurants, bars, and shops to browse. Nearby is Foret de la Dauble where you will find lots of opportunities for hiking.
