About this property

Rustic Farmhouse Overlooking a Peaceful Valley. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

Maison St George is a traditionally renovated rustic 400-year-old farmhouse, set in a tranquil hamlet. Inside you will find a large lounge, with three sofas, large tv with English satellite, and a dvd player. The kitchen/diner has a range cooker and lovely old English dressers and furniture. There is a large family bathroom with shower, plus an additional shower room and a second downstairs toilet. There are two traditional open tread staircases in the property, one leading to the twin bedroom above the bathroom wing, and the other leading to the two upstairs double bedrooms, separated by a large upstairs landing area with further wardrobe and dressing table. Beds will be made ready for your arrival, with towels provided.



Kitchen and dining

The kitchen is well equipped and has head-height cupboard space. Old English pine dressers house crockery and cutlery. There is a large range gas cooker and microwave oven.
The kitchen tables seat six people.

Living rooms

The living room has a lovely terracotta tiled floor, with plenty of light from the windows and a lovely view from the side window of the countryside around.
There is English satellite tv, a dvd player, a library of books in the dresser and many English dvd's.


In St Georges, you will find three bedrooms. These are all accessed via open tread staircases.
Bedroom one has a king size bed, side tables, wardrobe and chest of drawers.
Bedroom two is located over the kitchen area and in here you will find a double bed, bedside tables, wardrobe and dresser with drawers. Please note: there is a low door into this bedroom, as shown in the photos.
Bedroom three is located above the bathroom area and has an open tread staircase to access it. Inside you will find twin beds with bedside tables and chest of drawers.

You can find this locally in the surrounding towns and villages.

Garden and outside

As you come out of the front of St Georges you find yourself under a verandah that supports a lovely grapevine. You can sit under here in the heat of the summer to escape the heat.
There are sunbeds to lounge out by the pool and table and chairs, with parasol umbrella.

There is a private garden to the front and side of St Georges and a small paddock at the back of the private barn.

Please note: there is an electric fence bordering our neighbour's property as they keep Shetland ponies, and this stops them escaping onto our property.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Alison Stockwell

Our family bought the farmhouse in around 1985 from antiques dealers from the King's Road, Chelsea. We inherited a lovely variety of antique pine furniture from them. My husband and I have been in charge of the property for around the last 20 years and have spent many happy years there with our three children.

Why this location? The farmhouse is situated in an idyllic situation - the last house in the hamlet, with no passing traffic. It overlooks a lovely green valley. Bratome, the Venice of the south-west of France, is approximately a ten minutes' drive away. The city of Perigueux, with an array of supermarches and a Cathedral are around 30 minutes' drive. There are beautiful castles, caves and history in this area. The Dordogne is well known for it wonderful cuisine and wine.
Unique benefits of property It is located in a superb, tranquil situation but accessible to a number of historic and beautiful areas. There are lovely walks along the river at St Pierre de Cole. Equidistant to Brantome and Thiviers.

The Venice of the south-west of France, where you can go on lovely boat trips on the River Dronne. Or why not explore Brantome Abbey? There are markets held on various days in the surrounding towns and villages. There are also some good cycle routes around -

Grotte de Villars

Grotte de Villars is an impressive prehistoric cave full of stalactites and stalagmites and it also has a few prehistoric drawings. During the tour there is a sound and light show.

The City of Perigueux

Perigueux, with its cathedral, is a city with so much history and art. There are markets here on a Saturday and Wednesday.
