The Owner Recommends

Eymet Market

The Thursday morning weekly market is a colourful and busy event in the town, which runs year round. It starts early and finishes just after midday.

Bergerac is found on the northern bank of the Dordogne River, in the western part of the Dordogne department. It is among the largest towns in the region and is classified as a town of Art and History. The highlight of a trip to Bergerac is the old town - the area immediately north of the river, signposted 'vieille ville'. This part of the town has some lovely streets and squares to explore, and a variety of boutique type shops. A boat trip down the river is a must and a visit to the Museum of wine essential!

Chateau Monbazillac

An impressive 16th Century renaissance chateau less than 20 minutes drive from Eymet. The Chateau of Monbazillac dates from around 1550 and has been the property of Monbazillac Cooperative Winery since 1960. Its architecture is a mix of balance and dissymmetry shaped by the demands of medieval defensive style and the beginning of Renaissance. This protestant stronghold has been a listed Historic Monument since 1941. The Chateau is furnished and open all the year long for self-guided or guided tours. After the tour a wine tasting is offered to each visitor.

St Emilion

Saint Emilion is a small well-preserved medieval town, famous for its prestigious red wine, its notorious appellation with Grands Crus Classés and for its magnificent chateaux and vineyards. Saint Emilion’s village has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List for its unique historical and viticultural landscapes. Saint Emilion old town is really charming, and it is pleasant to enjoy a walking tour or an underground tour to discover its historical richness.

Local Bastide Towns

There are several beautiful Bastide towns within a short drive. The Bastide towns are laid out in a grid pattern with a central square. They were fortified to protect the inhabitants and were founded during the 100 year war between the English and the French. Eymet is one of the Bastide towns in the area. Others worth a visit during your stay are; Monpazier, Domme, Monflanquin and Villereal.

"Bordeaux was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for the beauty and uniqueness of its architecture. With open squares and spacious avenues, as well as a harmonious style, the city makes walking a real pleasure. You can admire treasures such as the Place de la Bourse, the Grand Theater, the Big Bell and St Andrew’s Cathedral, or just lose yourself in the streets of the Saint-Pierre district."

One of our favourite cities in the world a day out here is highly recommended. It is an hour and a half in the car or you can take the train from Bergerac. It is a superb city for its Gastronomy, the new 'City of Wine' museum, culture, restaurants, markets, theatre or simply a day out shopping. Ask us for details of our favourite restaurants!

Bergerac Wine Tours

Alex, the owner of the company is an enthusiastic wine lover with extensive local knowledge. A day out with Alex is great value for money, fun and relaxing and includes a fabulous lunch. Not only that... he can pick you up and drop you off, right at your doorstep on the heart of Eymet! Look him up, or contact us for more details. NB: He is very busy in the summer months, so early booking is recommended!

Chateau Vigiers Golf Course, Restaurant and Spa!

Just a 20 minute drive down the road, this is a great out. A superb golf course (27 holes), 2 restaurants (Le Chai, a casual bistro affair and a Michelin starred gourmet dining in the main chateau) and a fabulous spa.
