Sarlat-la-Canéda is a medieval town in southwest France's Dordogne department. Its central Sainte-Marie Church, redesigned by architect Jean Nouvel, hosts an indoor food market, and a glass elevator in the bell tower offers city views. Sarlat Market sells local delicacies like foie gras and cheese. To the south, close to the Cathédrale Saint-Sacerdos de Sarlat, stands the bullet-shaped Lanterne des Morts tower.
Located on the site of a former roman camp, the medieval fortress was transformed into an imposing stately home during the 17th century, as the defences were progressively replaced by classical architecture. The Chateau and the Hospice, located in the village and built by the Marquis de Hautefort at the same time as the transformation of the Chateau, reflect the rank and power of the Marquis. The interior contains a remarkable collection of 17th and 18th century furniture. In the 19th century, the renowned landscape architect, the count de Choulot, created the French formal gardens and the English-style park wich offer a variety of countryside and village views. The formal gardens, delimited by box hedges elegantly surrounding the Chateau, complement the architecture and enhance the pleasure of the visit. In summer, go off to explore the castle, at nightfall, in the company of marquess Jacques François’s sister in the 17th century. An unusual visit for all the family...

Ségur-le-Château is a very charming place, and strolling through the peaceful village center and in the narrow streets of the village it is difficult to guess that formerly it was an important local center for the region. The medieval houses line the river, and the village is dominated by the castle ruins which stand on a hill behind the houses and provide a picturesque backdrop for Ségur-le-Château.

The village run a barbecue, so you can buy your meat and they'll cook it for you.

If you feel the need to be slightly pampered, the cafe will give you a table and serve you the trout with chips and salad so you won't have to get too organized.
