About the Owner/Advertiser, Ms Debbie Barazetti

We love living here in SW France, it just has everything: chateaux, markets, the Dordogne river and of course, vineyards everywhere! With lovely long summers there's plenty of time for lazy days by the pool as well as walking, cycling and wine tasting!<br/>We very much enjoy hosting people in our cottage and having family and friends to stay. When we're not hosting we love travelling both in Europe and worldwide. We try to be as environmentally friendly as possible and love organic food and wine.

Year property purchased 2014
Why this location? We looked all over France before we bought our place; but this is a very special area. It's extremely pretty, with lots of bastide towns and villages that look just as they have for centuries. Each has a wonderful weekly market, with Ste Foy la Grande being voted the best market in France in 2014. We are very well connected, there are 2 local airports Bergerac (45 minutes) and Bordeaux (1 hour 15), as well as a train station less than 10 kms away. 6 hours drive from Caen ferry port, you can have breakfast on the ferry and lunch by the pool! Our village has 2 restaurants, a grocers, boulangerie and boucherie for fantastic local produce! We are less than half an hour from St. Emilion with it's world famous vineyards and chateaux and as we are surrounded by vineyards you can taste wine everywhere you go! We are 2kms from the beautiful Dordogne river where you can hire canoes and bikes, and even enjoy a drink or a meal at the restaurant by the river.
Unique benefits of property Our honey-coloured stone cottage is in the heart of an authentic little French village. It’s in the grounds of our home, yet nicely tucked away with a secret feel. Find fresh, simple bedrooms up a steep staircase. Both have shiny, compact shower rooms. There’s an open-plan sitting room downstairs with French windows on to the sun terrace, and a neat kitchen off with all you need to cook for four. Nip out for just-baked croissants from the local boulangerie, and enjoy breakfasts shaded by an ancient wisteria. There are heaps of châteaux and markets to explore nearby; canoeing on the Dordogne is two minutes away by car, wine tasting a three-minute walk; hire bikes can be delivered to the house, tennis courts are available in the village. Children will love the games, books, ping pong – and our cat George padding about outside. Laze in the sparkling pool (there’s an outdoor solar shower), wander out to the bars and restaurants, and feel yourself unwind.

We had an absolutely amazing week in this beautiful cottage. Debbie is a wonderful and attentive host, providing lots of information and suggestions, nothing was too much. The cottage is very clean, very well equipped and just perfect. The local area is stunning. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The pool was the perfect size for us and our 9 and 11 year old children. Highly recommend!

Owner response

We very much enjoyed hosting Anna and her family, they were absolutely lovely. Really hope to see them again.

Thank you so much for being the perfect guests!

10 / 10 A gem of a find 6 October, 2018

We stayed at La Porte Bleue for 10 days in late September and it was the perfect place for us to relax. The gorgeous hot weather helped and the grape harvesting added to the experience. The cottage itself is perfectly located hidden away in the centre of the village and close to the amenities. The cottage is full of character and beautifully equipped. The terrace area is lovely for eating or relaxing and the pool is one of the best we’ve had on holiday. The owners, Debbie and John were welcoming and laid on a little welcome pack which was most appreciated after a long drive. A real gem of a find and would thoroughly recommend.

Owner response

Nicky and her husband were perfect guests, and we were delighted to host them. They brought their bikes which we stored in the garage and they enjoyed cycling, walking, and getting to know the local area.

We are so pleased they made the most of the cottage, the pool and our beautiful village with the restaurants, vineyards and wine tastings.

Nicky will be welcome back any time

La Porte Bleue is a lovely property in a village location with excellent local facilities. There is private use of a pool and table tennis table and very good audio visual equipment. The property has two bedrooms and also has two small en-suite bathrooms as well as an outside shower. Two en suites is an excellent feature and in some publicity this is not clear. The property is small as is made clear by the owners at every stage. Storage space is limited but what is there is used well and the owners have provided a lot of equipment. The two bedrooms are particularly bijou. Self catering facilities are fine, although it is likely that people will eat out a lot, especially at the excellent nearby restaurant (le Gensake). When we were there it was very hot for a few days and not all windows have shutters. The property was clean and well maintained and the owners' customer service could not be faulted. Issues raised were dealt with immediately with people coming round. The owners also provided excellent advice on local activities in advance, such as canoeing, cycling and wine tasting. There is no dedicated parking but plenty of public parking spaces close by. I would be very happy to recommend this property.

Owner response

It was our pleasure to host Tim and his family, and we are delighted they enjoyed the reservations we made for activities on their behalf, and also explored recommendations we made.

As stated, the cottage is superbly equipped, with the living area and both bedrooms overlooking the pool. The two bedrooms have dark curtains and an additional window in the second bedroom also has shutters, to help keep the room cool in high summer. We also provide electric fans for summer use.

The private pool and terrace are a highlight for families in hot weather, and we are so glad they made such good use of it, as well as keeping cool canoeing on the beautiful Dordogne.

We hope they they will visit us again and look forward to welcoming Tim and his family in the future.
