Le Peuplier is French for The Poplar Tree and the gite has been named after the group of poplar trees sitting at the top of the grounds. This is the first gite to be renovated at Cousserat and it has been designed to provide as much comfort and respite as you need to enable you to unwind completely. The gite has one large bedroom and a restful living and dining space on the ground floor.
We provide a comprehensive information pack for you with plenty of ideas for places to visit and things to do. We can help you with restaurant reservations, other bookings and can also arrange local wine tastings and vineyard tours.
The kitchen contains everything you could possibly need for a holiday break including a dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, electric fan oven, gas hob and large fridge/freezer.
Crockery, cooking equipment, pans and glasses are provided in abundance. We also provide all the essentials such as dishwasher tablets, cling film, condiments and a welcome pack to see you through your first evening or morning - of course, this includes a bottle of very good local wine!
The dining table extends to seat four people quite easily and four chairs are provided for such occasions.
Downstairs the open plan living area is relaxing and homely, offering comfortable seating in the form of a sofa with plump cushions and a chair with footstool.
There is also a log burner for cooler evenings or cosy winter breaks, satellite tv and a dvd player.
The gite has one large bedroom which boasts magnificent oak beams and a window overlooking the undulating landscape beyond the cottage which is filled with vines and woodland as far as you can see.
The bedroom is tastefully furnished with a king sized bed, a traditional French wardrobe, a dressing table and a small single bed which doubles up as a cushioned, cosy sofa.
Fresh bed linen and Egyptian cotton towels are provided and these will be changed for you if you decide to stay for more than one week.
Next to the bedroom you will find a large, fully tiled shower room with a walk in shower and again, old oak beams.
There are little touches in here to help you to feel even more comfortable such as hand made soap and a magnifying mirror.
There is a large log burner in the living space in the gite which is housed within a superb, original stone fireplace. This log burner is sufficient to heat the whole gite in winter but we can also provide electric heaters upstairs if necessary.
In addition to this, there is a heated towel rail in the bathroom to keep things nice and cosy in there and warm your towels.
Of course, we hope that you will also enjoy cooking and eating outside and we have therefore provided a barbecue and a beautiful, peaceful decked area outside the gite where you can gaze up at the night stars and during the day enjoy a view of the gardens, swimming pool, vines and woodland. A table and chairs are provided outside to seat four people.
We have a number of different seating areas in the shade and the sun, including a hammock under the mulberry tree and provide parasols next to the pool. There is also a canopy outside of the gite that can be used for shade during the day if you need it.
The swimming pool is inviting and refreshing and the tiled and decked area around the pool is a relaxing space to chill out. We provide sun loungers with thick, comfortable mattresses, as well as pool towels to use throughout your stay. The parasols at the poolside can be moved around so that you have the choice in terms of sun or shade.
There is plenty of space for you to park at Le Peuplier and you can park close to the gite if you need to unload shopping or luggage.
The gite and grounds are suitable for most adults although it is not suitable for disabled visitors or children under the age of 10.
Mike and I moved here from England to experience a different culture and lifestyle. We wanted an adventure - to do something different. We both enjoy meeting all the amazing people that stay as guests in the gite that we have lovingly renovated - it is very rewarding to see people wind down, relax and sleep so well in our tranquil haven.

|Why this location?||We spent several years exploring South West France before deciding on the beautiful, peaceful part of the world that we now live in. We are surrounded by vineyards that stretch as far as the eye can see and love the changing landscape throughout all the seasons. Although we are in a calm, tranquil rural location, we can easily reach the spectacular city of Bordeaux and the charming town of Bergerac. If we want to, we can also visit the Atlantic coast, including the absolutely amazing Dune du Pilat, the tallest dune in Europe - only 1.5 hours away. Of course, the local, regional food is fantastic and includes wonderful cheese, pastries, macarons, canelés and meat dishes. Finally, we are in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region, the most famous and coveted wine worldwide. This area, of course, includes St Emilion which also happens to be a world heritage UNESCO site and a stunning village to boot with superb restaurants.|
|Unique benefits of property||Le Peuplier gite at Cousserat is situated in a beautiful part of the Bordeaux wine region, close to St Emilion. There is a different market to visit each day:
Monday - Duras, a lovely market that sells a wide range of food, clothes, jewellery and plants. Also, Castillon-la-Bataille, quite a large market that is used by the local French inhabitants.
Tuesday - Sauveterre de Guyenne, a small, cute market situated in the town square
Wednesday - Pellegrue, a tiny market where you can pick up fresh veg for your dinner and visit one of the best boulangeries around too
Thursday - Eymet, another market set in this beautiful medieval square where you can find a diverse range of goodies
Friday - Monsegur, a great market that is partly undercover in the town square. Sit and have a coffee here and watch the world go by.
Saturday - Sainte-Foy-la-Grande, the biggest market in the region that boasts fantastic coloured umbrellas and other artwork during the spring and summer months.
Sunday - Issegiac, a superb medieval village with one of the best markets around, well worth a trip.
The most picturesque and renowned wine centre of the Bordeaux region, St Emilion is only 20 minutes away from Cousserat. This is such a beautiful place to visit for the wine, of course, but also great restaurants, shops and nearby activities such as wine tasting by tuk tuk, bicycle or Harley Davidson.
The largest dune in Europe, straddled by deep green forest on one side and the Atlantic ocean on the other. This is an amazing experience and the dune sits close to the Bay of Arcachon which is also a superb seaside town to visit.
There are many architectural gems in this old city which sits on the River Garonne and in days gone by was the place that merchants bought their wine and transported it to the rest of the wine by boat. It boasts the modern Cité du Vin, a wine museum designed in the shape of a wine decanter. In addition, the longest shopping street in Europe can be found here, together with the famous theatre and the Miroir d'Eau - the world's largest reflecting pool.
There are literally hundreds of vineyards in the Bordeaux and Bergerac wine regions. We live in the Bordeaux region but the Bergerac wine trail is also very accessible to the gite.
We recommend some local vineyards where we know the wine farmers who are English and French speaking:
Astrelus at Cazaugitat
Château de Claribès at Gensac
We can arrange for you to have an informative and amazing wine tasting experience at both of these vineyards, as well as several others. You can also simply drive around the area and pop into any of the vineyards that have the sign 'degustation' at their entrance (wine tasting).
