About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Tracy Hunwick

I am a partner of our family run holiday property agency alongside my husband, David. Established after buying our second home in France, we have a passion for French life. We love interior design; which has helped us develop and improve La Maison Montignac, good food and wine, travel, browsing brocantes, and cycling- which is a great way of discovering all our region has to offer.

Year property purchased 2005
Why this location? The location of La Maison Montignac is really something special for us, and is what first attracted us to the house. Our home has wonderful views over local vineyards and farm land of the Dropt valley and across to our neighbouring town of Duras, 10kms away, where the Chateau is illuminated at night. There is an abundance of wildlife to be seen including deer (we had some on our patio one evening), hares, woodpeckers, owls and red squirrel to name a few. It feels like you are living in rural countryside, with very little light pollution so star gazing is fabulous, and has the added benefit of being just a 20 minute walk to Monsegur; which has all the amenities we need including the most wonderful Boulangerie, small supermarket, restaurants, bars/cafe's, a weekly market where stall holders sell fresh, local produce and even a small cinema which regularly shows some films in English. It's an easy drive to Bordeaux, Bergerac and St Emilion. In our opinion, a perfect retreat!
Unique benefits of property Ou private clay tennis court was built by the former owner, Patrice Dominguez, who was a famous French player in the 1970's and went on to become a director of the Davis Cup and a tv commentator. There are lots of other activities to entertain you including our games room with pool table, table football, table tennis, darts and not forgetting the private heated swimming pool, which is fenced and gated as well as having an alarm to make it safe and secure for our younger guests. The open plan living space of the barn conversion has a high, beamed ceiling supported by thick stone walls, making the house characterful and welcoming.

The Owner Recommends

Chateau de Duras

A tour of the Chateau is well worth a visit, especially if you can muster the energy to climb the stairs to the top of the tower to take in the stunning vista.

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is such a cosmopolitain city and has had millions of Euros invested in renovating many of the stunning architectural buildings over recent years. We love strolling round the quaint streets of the antiques quarter, taking lunch in the pavement cafe's and restaurants, wandering along the river bank, shopping at Galeries Lafeyette and all the other beautiful and interesting boutiques. If wine is your thing, then a visit to Cite du Vin is also recommended. For lovers of the arts, the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, is a must do!

St Emilion

World renowned St Emilion dates back to prehistoric times and has many interesting Romanesque churches and ruins amongst the narrow, cobbled streets. Many independent boutiques, artisans, restaurants and wine caves now form the heart of this Unesco World Heritage site and various guided tours can be taken of the town and famous surrounding vineyards.

Local Famers Markets

There is a market on every day of the week in different towns of the area. Local farmers, producers and artisans sell their wares, and market day is always an opportunity for the locals to catch up over coffee and a fresh pastry. Grab your basket and enjoy browsing the stalls to pick up your supplies.

Monday - Duras
Thursday - Eymet
Friday - Monsegur
Saturday - Sainte Foye la Grande
Sunday - Issigeac (about a 45 mins drive but worth it - get there early to get parked!)

Night markets

Many local towns have popular night markets with entertainment, street food, wine tasting and dancing. An atmospheric and great night out!

Duras - Thursday evening
Levignac de Guyenne - Friday evening
