We have lived and worked in London for many years in the financial sector. Some time ago we decided that we would like to enjoy a slower pace of life, so we had the idea of running our own gite complex in France. After a long search we found this beautiful property and we are now living here at Domaine Les Pruniers and we couldn't be happier!
|Year property purchased||2015|
|Why this location?||We have visited SW France many times over the years, initially the Dordogne area and the Atlantic coast. A few years ago we discovered the Lot et Garonne and fell in love with its tranquility and sublime natural beauty and also for its wide variety of lively bastide towns and villages, markets, chateaux and vineyards. We decided that we would like to live here and when we found this property our dream came true. For keen golfers there is an attractive 9 hole par 38 course in Tombeboeuf which is only 7km from us, with club and buggy hire available. There is also a highly recommended 18 hole golf course at Villeneuve-sur-Lot, which is about 25km away.There are many gentle walks and hikes within easy reach and there are also many cycle paths, we are close to both the Route Vert and the Velo Route. Les Pruniers is very close to the Lot river and it is a just a short drive to the many towns dotted along the banks offering water activities such as kayaking and canoeing.|
|Unique benefits of property||Set within its own plum orchards and stunning gardens, Domaine Les Pruniers is a 4 hectare estate dating back to 1890. Located in the beautiful Lot et Garonne, close to the South Dordogne border and only 40 minutes drive from Bergerac airport, Domaine Les Pruniers is the perfect base to explore both areas. The estate comprises three properties Mirabelle, Myrtille and Mure which have all been rated as 4 star accommodation by the French tourist board. All the properties are available to rent individually however you can also enjoy exclusive use of the estate with its large heated pool, hot-tub, petanque court, various games areas and acres of space by renting all three properties together with your friends or family. You can then enjoy having your own space whilst getting together for meals or drinks around the pool whenever you wish. Les Pruniers is within easy reach of many bastide towns and villages including Villeneuve sur Lot, Bergerac, Monpazier, Agen, Monflanquin, Duras and Eymet.|
We highly recommend visiting the many chateaux within easy reach of Les Pruniers including Biron, Duras, Bonaguil, Bridoire and Gavaudun. Many of these are child friendly with organised games and treasure hunts. Chateau de Bridoire and Chateau de Duras have been particular favourites with our younger guests as well as having plenty to interest the grown-ups.
Les Pruniers is within easy reach of both the Bergerac and Cotes de Duras wine routes. Both routes have many vineyards offering tastings and tours.
Les Pruniers is situated within easy reach of a number of specified cycing routes including Voie Verte, Velo Route, Duc de Lauzun and the Lot valley cycle route.
We are surrounded by many market towns where you can enjoy buying your fresh provisions and follow this with a delicious lunch. Popular markets include, Eymet, Issigeac, Miramont, Villeneuve, Villereal, Pujols to name but a few.
In our area we also have many excellent night markets. Here you can grab a table, buy yourselves some delicious food and drink provided by the local producers all accompanied by various live music performances. Night markets close to us include Monclar, Eymet, Casseneuil, Laparade, Fongrave, Sauvetat du Dropt, Monteton and Levignac.
In the surrounding area there are lots of things to do with the children including:

There are many beautiful walks close to us including a 6km circular walk around Tombeboeuf lake.
We have just returned after an amazing week at Karen and Anthony's immaculate gite. We arrived to a spotless gite with everything you could possibly need provided for your time in this lovely, untouristy part of France. We cooked in, ate out, swam by the pool, picked plums, paddle boarded in the nearby river, swam in a lake and enjoyed everything that the site and wider environs had to offer. Our children played pool, darts, table tennis, bounced on trampolines and loved the pool. The adults had lots of space to relax both in the shade and in the sun. Karen and Anthony could not have made us feel more welcome. They answered all our questions, pointed us in the right directions for everything and gave us our space and let us discover the beautiful towns, lakes and rivers by ourselves. It was a great place to spend a sunny, relaxing, fun week...
We had a thoroughly relaxing stay at Les Pruniers and would certainly recommend it to family and friends. Communication with the owners prior to arrival was helpful and timely and the gite was easy to find. The owners greatest us on arrival and familiarised is with the accomodation and facilities and made us feel very welcome. The welcome basket of provisions was also a really nice touch. The gite was well equipped and very comfortable with plenty of space. The swimming pool was very well kept and a fantastic resource which we used on a daily basis- the children loved the many and various pool inflatables! The rural setting of the gite was glorious, with stunning views across the plum trees to the fields beyond. The garden and grounds were very well kept and the numerous activities on site were a huge hit with our kids- table tennis, big trampoline, football goals etc etc. There garden was a haven for wildlife which was also lovely to experience.
The gite is a 7km cycle or drive for the nearest bakery or supermarket so this may not suit everyone, but wasn’t an issue for us. There are lots of beautiful villages within easy driving reach of the beach and Karen and Antony were very helpful in providing local knowledge and there was plenty of written information provided.
Overall a fantastic place to explore rural France and to relax and enjoy the peace waiting the trees.
Many thanks Karen and Antony.
