After two wonderful weeks at Grand Mauroux we only have 100% positive comments. As a family party of seventeen (11 adults and 6 children) with ages ranging from 6 months to 70 years we were hoping for something special that would suit us all and we certainly got it.
Grand Mauroux is a spectacular, peaceful property set within acres and acres of hazelnut groves. The area is teeming with wildlife: butterflies, red deer, birds including kingfisher, ragondin. The house itself has seven ensuite bedrooms, two living rooms and a fully equipped kitchen and dining room. We were a large group but there is plenty of space and at no stage did we feel on top of each other. The property is also extremely homely.
Castillonnès is a 30 minute walk, 12 minute cycle, 4 minute car ride away. A pretty bastide town with a variety of shops and bars, Tuesday is market day and well worth a visit. There is plenty to do in the area (other towns, markets, vineyards, Lac de Lougratte is well worth a visit) but we spent a lot of time enjoying the pool, the bbq and the land immediately surrounding Grand Mauroux.
Alison is an excellent host, extremely knowledgeable about the area and massively helpful getting our group out of a few scrapes along the way. Thank you Alison. We all agree that we would have no hesitation in recommending Grand Mauroux to others. An easy 10 out of 10!
Thank you very much for your kind words. We will also give you 10 out of 10!! You left the house beautifully clean and tidy and a pleasure to accommodate.
What a fantastic house in a perfect setting. Owner and her Mum live on site with two dogs but you would never know. Other than an early morning visit to clean the pool each day, no other contact unless assistance sought with restaurant recommendations.
Artists in the party had plenty of material with the house, adjacent barns, out houses and nut orchards.
Would highly recommend a visit to the trotting racetrack within walking distance of the house.
Good English TV helped us enjoy the World Cup.
More books in the house than any other property I’ve visited so no need to bring your own.
Local village short on eating options and even going in June we found many restaurants not open, so make sure you phone and book before setting off.
Excellent BBQ and outside eating area if you choose to stay in.
I would highly recommend the property if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing time
A great family house, well equipped with excellent outdoor seating capacity. the owner lives on site and is unobtrusive but readily available and helpful if needed. there is a good lake nearby and the Bastide tows with their markets are wonderful. We have been back this year for the second time as it fitted our needs perfectly.
There were two families staying here with older children (9 in all). The house was much more than it showed on the website. A beautiful house/chateau , very traditional ,plenty of space and in a fantastic setting. It was very peaceful which was exactly what we were looking for. The recent upgrades to the pool with the decking and the pergoda made it a perfect place to relax. The local towns/bastides were absolutely beautiful , almost like being transported back in time ! The hosts couldn't have been more welcoming and were very kind in telling us all the little secrets of where to go and visit , eat , vineyards etc. We would thoroughly recommend staying here in terms of relaxing and also taking in the local French traditions. Some of main towns are not far away like Bergerac ,plus there is a little airport at Bergerac which could be useful for the next time ! Our nephew flew in to spend a few days with us and couldn't have been easier to drive to the airport (20 minutes) pick him up after a 1 hour 15 minute flight.
It was a lovely holiday , perfect setting , a gem of a chateau and perfect hosts.
