The local markets are always worth a visit. The market at Sainte-Foy-la-Grande is one of the largest in the area and is on a Saturday. A little bit further afield Eymet's market is not to be missed and is on a Thursday, Duras and Miramont's markets are on a Monday and the market at Issigeac on a Sunday is always very busy so try to get there early. Evening markets in the summer months are great to visit.
East of the area is home to some of the most beautiful villages in France. Named as some of 'Les plus beaux villages de France', Belves, Beynac-et-Cazenac, Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, Domme, La Roque-Gageac, Monflanquin and Monpazier are all worth a visit.
The 13th C bastide at Eymet, Dordogne. Bastides were fortified towns built by kings in areas where their rule was under threat. The towns were built in a grid system with arcaded square and fortified church. Eymet has some wonderful restaurants and markets. Look out for the medieval festivals in August.
The local chateau at Duras is well worth a visit with fantastic views from the top of the tower. Head east of the property along the Dordogne valley and visit the impressive chateaux of Biron, Beynac and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle.
The Jardins de Marqueyssac are beautiful, and the view from the viewing platform across the Dordogne valley towards La Roque-Gageac is spectacular.
