About this property

Spacious, Beautiful Cottage with Large Pool. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

Beautiful Cottage in south west France, near Duras, Aquitaine, France for 2 people. This spacious cottage has been lovingly restored, set in private garden and overlooks the picturesque Dropt Valley.

For last minute bookings we are reducing all remaining weeks this summer by £70 per week!
Whether you are looking for a romantic setting, a base for sightseeing or a lovely situation where you can relax by the pool, Les Costes fits the bill. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and within easy reach of picturesque villages, many housing colourful markets and providing a variety of restaurants.
Situated in a small tranquil hamlet of just 6 houses on a no through lane overlooking the picturesque Dropt Valley, this lovely stone cottage is ideally located between Eymet, a 13th century bastide town in the Dordogne and Duras, with its beautiful chateau in the Lot and Garonne.

Although we are on site if you need any information, our guests needs are foremost and we absolutely respect your privacy hence the cottage garden is private to you and bushes around the pool are designed to offer screening.
As stated the cottage is set in a private garden, with private terrace where you can eat al fresco. There are table, chairs and sun recliners where you can relax amongst the lilac and various fruit trees which not only provide a lovely natural shade but where you are welcome to enjoy the fruits, namely cherries, figs, plums and apples as they ripen.
The pool is occasionally used by us Yvonne and Paul (although we have no need to be in the pool whilst you are using it) and around the pool we provide sunbeds, tables and chairs exclusively for your use. Bicycles are available so that you can enjoy and explore the Dropt valley and the vineyards/area.
If you don't know this area you will be surprised at how many beautiful medieval villages and towns are dotted around, many hosting jazz and medieval festivals. Alternatively relax in the peace of the countryside and enjoy a book and/or a glass of wine around the pool, in the garden or wander around our 2 acres of land.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Yvonne Clarke

We retired early in 2002 and were looking for a new project. Once we walked onto the land of Les Costes we knew we had found exactly what we were looking for. We completely renovated the cottage and lived there for 3 years whilst local artisans completely renovated the stone tobacco drying barn which is our home. We have been renting out the cottage since 2007 and each year have welcomed our summer clients.

Year property purchased 2002
Why this location? Set in beautiful countryside overlooking the Dropt Valley we love Les Costes and we are sure you will too. It's tranquility and yet its closeness to so many local villages make it a beautiful place to live and to visit

The Owner Recommends

St Emilion

Beautiful Medieval town well known for it's Grand Cru wines. Many bars and restaurants. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and just a few kilometres from where the last battle of the 100 years war was fought. Full of historical ambience

Lovely Bastide Town which holds a lively market on a Thursday. Many of our clients just enjoy sitting in the village square with a beer or a coffee and watching the world go by. There is also a good choice of restaurants

A lovely small town dominated by its beautiful and interesting Chateau. Built higher than the surrounding countryside meaning that the views are beautiful. Colourful market on a Monday. Couple of good restaurants and 2 or 3 bars

One of the larger Bastide Towns which holds a lively market on a Thursday. Sit in the market square and enjoy a lovely meal or just have a drink in the bar and watch the world go by. Wander around its little craft shops and look out over the beautiful surrounding countryside. Visit Chateau Byron on the way home

A beautiful city set along the river Garonne. Visit the wonderful shopping area featuring many designer shops. Full of restaurants and bars and lovely architecture.

Arcachon and the Dunes de Pyla

A 2 hour journey but well worth the visit outside of July and August. Arcachon is a lovely town with a choice of restaurants overlooking the beach. The dunes de Pyla are the highest dunes in Europe and are difficult to describe because they are so awesome

We have just returned from 4 weeks in this superb gite! Everything was faultless, from the arrival drinks and friendly welcome to our departure drinks and fond farewell. Yvonne and Paul were superb hosts offering plenty of advice and kindness throughout. They were always available if needed without being intrusive. The gite was very comfortable and very spacious for 2 people. It had everything you needed for a self catering holiday and was a real home from home. The garden and pool area was fabulous and the pool in particular was very welcome in the hot weather. The fresh garden produce was very welcome and delicious especially the tomatoes and homemade fig jam!! We would not hesitate to recommend Les Costes and very much hope to return in the future. It is ideally located for discovering the many beautiful villlages and vineyards of the Lot et Garronne and the Dordogne Thanks again Yvonne and Paul for all your kindness.

We had a wonderful time. Communication beforehand was very good, and Paul and Yvonne are happy to answer any questions.

We received an extremely friendly welcome. Paul and Yvonne are warm and kind, and were excellent but unobtrusive hosts. They suggested local places to visit and were available if we had any queries, but also respected our privacy.

We had a relaxing stay. The gite is well-maintained, spacious and clean. It is also well-equipped. The bed is very comfortable, and the setting is quiet and peaceful.

We loved the beautiful pool, our own garden space, and the bigger garden which was given over for our use. The donkeys, cats and chickens were a bonus, as we are animal lovers, but if you aren't, they won't bother you. We appreciated having use of the bikes too, and used them to have an early morning cycle ride (to avoid the heat) through the lovely countryside to a local village.

There are lots of lovely placed to visit both locally and a bit further afield, if you can drag yourself away from the garden and pool!

We hope to return one day and would definitely recommend this property to family and friends.

We had a wonderful holiday at les Costes, if anything the photos did not do it full justice. The cottage itself was comfortable ,well equipped and the pool, garden, and setting was superb!! The owners were wonderful. They have the perfect balance of hospitality, attention to detail and truly care that their customers have a great holiday. The holiday started wonderfully with wine on arrival, fresh bread, milk and produce from the owners garden to get us started. I would thoroughly recommend Les Costes and the surrounding area. It is utterly charming with lots of beautiful little towns and villages , chateauxs and caves to visit.

Without doubt one of the best gites we have ever had the pleasure to enjoy. It was fabulous to visit this wonderful property hosted, unobtrusively, by Paul and Yvonne. The gardens and pool were beautiful and the accommodation generous and cool due to the stone walls. Lots to do and see. Duras was a pretty village full of little bars and some very nice restaurants. It was close enough to pop down and get your fresh croissant for breakfast to enjoy on our secluded patio.
We loved the donkeys and the chickens which seemed part of the whole experience and charm.
We will be back, that's for sure.
