About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Yvonne Clarke

We retired early in 2002 and were looking for a new project. Once we walked onto the land of Les Costes we knew we had found exactly what we were looking for. We completely renovated the cottage and lived there for 3 years whilst local artisans completely renovated the stone tobacco drying barn which is our home. We have been renting out the cottage since 2007 and each year have welcomed our summer clients.

Year property purchased 2002
Why this location? Set in beautiful countryside overlooking the Dropt Valley we love Les Costes and we are sure you will too. It's tranquility and yet its closeness to so many local villages make it a beautiful place to live and to visit

St Emilion

Beautiful Medieval town well known for it's Grand Cru wines. Many bars and restaurants. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and just a few kilometres from where the last battle of the 100 years war was fought. Full of historical ambience

Lovely Bastide Town which holds a lively market on a Thursday. Many of our clients just enjoy sitting in the village square with a beer or a coffee and watching the world go by. There is also a good choice of restaurants

A lovely small town dominated by its beautiful and interesting Chateau. Built higher than the surrounding countryside meaning that the views are beautiful. Colourful market on a Monday. Couple of good restaurants and 2 or 3 bars

One of the larger Bastide Towns which holds a lively market on a Thursday. Sit in the market square and enjoy a lovely meal or just have a drink in the bar and watch the world go by. Wander around its little craft shops and look out over the beautiful surrounding countryside. Visit Chateau Byron on the way home

A beautiful city set along the river Garonne. Visit the wonderful shopping area featuring many designer shops. Full of restaurants and bars and lovely architecture.

Arcachon and the Dunes de Pyla

A 2 hour journey but well worth the visit outside of July and August. Arcachon is a lovely town with a choice of restaurants overlooking the beach. The dunes de Pyla are the highest dunes in Europe and are difficult to describe because they are so awesome

We stayed at the gite for 10 days mid September and had a truely relaxing time in a beautiful part of France. I can only echo the comments below regards the gite and owners, from our arrival with a glass of wine from Paul we knew we would be in for a memorable holiday. Paul and Yvonne were the perfect hosts as they were on site for any questions you may have but were not at all intrusive. We spent a couple of enjoyable evenings with them chatting about their life in France. Their garden and the fruit trees are for the use of guests as well and we had many figs from their fig tree!
The gite is very comfortable and private and the large pool was used most days. We also made use of the bikes and BBQ provided on site as well. Lots to see and do in the area, plenty of typical French villages with places to eat. The local restaurant has great food and is good value, also the local chateau at Duras is well worth a visit as well as the markets in the surrounding area. Thanks Paul and Yvonne, we hope to return some day.

The Gite was extremely comfort, well equipped and had everything that we required to make a very comfortable stay. We received a lovely warm welcome from the owners who were on site. The pool is a good size, had sun loungers, trees for shade and plenty of space around the pool. The owners are on site and enhanced the stay being able to give plenty of information. Several beautiful friendly cats will befriend you. Lovely rural setting and plenty to see locally, great local restaurant, very French and fantastic value. We would certainly recommend this Gite and hope to revisit.

From our arrival when Yvonne and Paul greeted us with a glass of wine, to a lovely evening of aperitifs with them, we were looked after by our hosts. The cottage was lovely, clean and everything was catered for. It was a lovely quiet location and not overlooked, but if you needed something Yvonne and Paul were always happy to help out. The area was lovely and there were even chickens, cats and donkeys to entertain you. There was plenty of information provided to ensure you made the most of the area. We can recommend a visit to Duras Castle and Eymet, and there is a lovely chocolate shop nearby ! A Big thanks to Yvonne and Paul for sharing their lovely cottage with us.

The cottage is a delight and has everything you could possibly need for a comfortable and relaxed holiday. The private terrace is so lovely it was hard to go out on some days

Yvonne and Paul are the perfect hosts : we were so warmly welcomed we immediately felt at home. Their advice on the area was spot on and we loved exploring the property and meeting the animals.

We swam every day in the beautifully maintained pool which sits in the gorgeous garden.

Can't wait to go back!
