Everywhere in the region you will find quiet roads, fields of sunflowers, traditional Bastide towns, small picturesque villages, vineyards - as we are in the Côtes de Duras region, and orchards of plum trees grown for the delicious Pruneaux d'Agen, a local speciality.

About the Owner, Mrs Fenella Jackson

Ian and I moved to this beautiful part of France in 2013 from Southampton. The house was not lived in for many years and became a labour of love to restore it back to its former beauty.
We have settled in very well and are loving life.
Wild horses would not persuade us to return to our roots as the French have taught us how to make the most of every day and to generally enjoy the peace, tranquility, panoramic views and lifestyle. We have never been happier.

Year property purchased 2011
Why this location? We spent 2 years travelling the length and breadth of France house hunting and stumbled across the serene Lot et Garonne which seems to be very much a hidden secret. We are on the borders of both the Dordogne and Gironde, so there is a lot going on nearby but the position allows us the best of both worlds should we wish to be quiet.
We love the rolling countryside, hot and long summers, the delightful nearby Bastide towns with beautiful and lively markets and of course the many restaurants that boast gourmet food at very reasonable prices.
Unique benefits of property Peace, tranquility, panoramic views, sunflowers (generally July), swimming pool and lots going on in very close distance.

The Owner Recommends

St Emilion

A beautiful cobbled Roman town which is one of the most famous wine capitals in the world. Enjoy a tour of the chateaux enjoying fine wines and learning about the process of production. Soak up the atmosphere of the picturesque town/village with a lovely lunch. Don't forget your camera.

Night Food Markets. July & August.

There are a multitude of night markets in the local Bastide towns nearby where you can wander round the vendors with your plates and cutlery and choose what you would like to eat. Dining is generally on long tables and the evenings are very sociable affairs. There is often live music and the opportunity to get up and dance the night away if you wish.

Meander the local rivers on a canoe.

Canoeing is a great way to see the area from a different perspective. Meander either the river Dropt (very close by) or drive a bit further to the river Dordogne and marvel at the many chateaux which line the river. Enjoy the peace and tranquility and witness the sheer beauty of the region. This is a great family day trip and enjoyed by everyone we know.

Day Markets

There are a number of vibrant markets nearby.
Enjoy mingling with both tourists and locals through the colourful and fresh produce that France has to offer and finding lovely crafts to purchase as presents or to treat yourselves.
Details of all the markets are in our guest information pack.

Bordeaux

This beautiful and vibrant city has everything to offer as it is extremely cosmopolitan with an efficient tram service making getting around very simple.
The water mirror is a must. It is next to the river and produces magnificent reflections as it rotates from being a mirror where both children and adults alike frolic and paddle. Everyone then disappears in fog as the water turns to steam. A magnificent photo opportunity here.
There are numerous wonderful restaurants where you can enjoy a gourmet or casual lunch sitting on pavements, cobbled streets and courtyards watching the world pass by.
Bordeaux is approximately a one hour 30 minute drive from the gite.
A fabulous day out with lots of lovely shops as well.
