La Maison d’Amis is a totally self-contained wing of owner’s main house with its own enclosed garden and sunny first floor balcony. It has a 10x5m pool with large sunny terrace and covered area for shade, and is for your exclusive use between the hours of 9am and 19.30pm.
The accommodation is furnished to a high standard, tastefully decorated and fully equipped with all modern appliances throughout. On the ground floor the lounge/dining area is entered through frenchdoors. Off the lounge is the modern kitchen with rear door leading to the garden and pool. On the first floor is the light and airy double bedroom with en suite bath/shower room. Frenchdoors lead onto the private south west facing balcony with views of Monflanquin. You have exclusive use of the enclosed garden with both sunny and shaded areas. A path leads you to the partially elevated pool providing an ideal vantage point for absorbing the quiet ambiance of the area, with open country views where you can watch the wildlife including birds of prey soaring high above on the thermals or enjoying a leisurely poolside lunch under the flower adorned auvent.

The friendly but unintrusive owners live on site and are available should you have any queries or require further information about the local area, places to visit or local restaurants. They will be there to greet you on arrival and show you the accommodation and facilities and to provide a welcome drink.
Modern tiled kitchen with butlers style sink including gas cooker with electric grill, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge and freezer, toaster, kettle, coffee machine and all necessary kitchen utensils, cutlery, crockery and glassware. Tea towels are provided aswell as general cleaning materials and bin liners. For your safety there is a smoke alarm and fire extinguisher.
The main entrance through french windows leads into living/dining area.
Comfortably furnished with a sofa, chair, dining table and 2 chairs, wall mounted flat screen tv with UK and French channels, cd stereo, french dresser with a range of english novels and guide books of the local area. Fan available.
There is a general storage cupboard with iron & ironing board, clothes drying rack and cleaning materials etc. and off the living room is a cloakroom with wc and wash hand basin. It is equipped with a smoke alarm.
Approached via a staircase leading from the kitchen, the light and airy bedroom has a hand carved solid oak large double bed on a strip maple wood floor. Curtains and voile drapes dress the french doors which open onto the south west facing balcony with views over the countryside and Monflanquin, perched on the hilltop.
The flower filled balcony has table and chairs with exterior wall lighting for illumination after the sun has set. The room is complete with table and chairs, hand carved pine wardrobe, stripped pine chest of drawers with mirror, bedside tables with wall lights above and a heated towel rail. Hair dryer provided. Depending on the time of year there is air-conditioning or a heater available.
Bed linen is provided and changed on a weekly basis.
There is a smoke alarm and a carbon monoxide alarm and stair gate for your safety.
This luxurious bathroom is en suite to the bedroom and is fully tiled with an opening roof light. It has a large double bath, wash hand basin with mirror above, wc and separate shower cubicle with designer style glass block walls. Towels are provided which are changed on a weekly basis and the bathroom has a towel rail and hooks for your bath robes.
A separate cloakroom is located off the ground floor living area and is complete with wc and wash basin with vanity mirror above.

The house is situated in 1 hectare (2.5 acres) of park-like grounds, which you are free to wander through. The partially elevated 10 x 5 metre pool provides an ideal vantage point for absorbing the quiet ambiance of the area with open country views or enjoying a leisurely poolside lunch under the flower adorned awning. 4 Cancellation - any payments received will only be refunded if the weeks you have reserved can be re-let, any costs incurred for re advertising will be deducted from the possible refund. We strongly recommend that you take out holiday insurance cover inclusive of cancellation
5 Bookings are normally from 4pm on first day to 10am on last day
6 Cleaning - the price is based on the property being left on the day of departure in a clean and tidy condition. If required, cleaning is available at an extra cost

8 Damages/Breakages - a security deposit cheque for £150 is payable with the final payment and will be refunded in full less any costs for damages/breakages should they occur

La Maison d'Amis is on the southern edge of Monflanquin and offers that rarely found combination of being in the countryside yet within a 10/15 minute walk of the town. Monflanquin, a pretty 13C Medieval Bastide Town founded during the 100 years war, sits high on a hill, its two church towers silhouetted on the skyline can be seen for miles around justifying its well earned title of L'un des Plus Beaux Villages de France (One of the most beautiful villages of France). Cobbled Alleys lead to a central Arcaded Square where the weekly market is held. During the summer months there are Music, Art Exhibitions and Medieval Festivals reflecting the towns cultural heritage. Situated in gently rolling countryside between the picturesque Dordogne and Lot Valleys are numerous places of interest to visit, prehistoric sites, chateaux, gardens and many other Bastide towns. For wine and food lovers the area is famous, sample its gastronomic specialities and enjoy tasting wine from the many local vineyards.
For leisure activities Monflanquin has a fitness centre, tennis courts and horse riding, also cycle hire is available. Nearby are two golf courses, a large swimming lake with pedalos and a water park. The area has many signposted walks of varying lengths suitable for all abilities.
Monflanquin has a wide range of restaurants most having outside terraces, many overlook the pretty Arcaded Square. They offer traditional french fare, specialities such as Foie Gras, Magret de Canard and Pruneaux d'Agen. For lighter meals there is a Creperie, Pizzeria and Bar offering Tapas and Snacks
Particularly popular is the weekly night market where you can buy local produce and wines to be eaten on the long trestle tables set up in the centre of the square. The town has shops for your daily requirements, Boulangerie, Tabac/Newsagent where English papers are available, Gift Shops etc, on the outskirts of the town there is a Commercial Centre with a large Supermarket, Pharmacy and Wine Co-operative. There is also a weekly market held in the central Place on Thursday mornings.
This area of South West France is internationally renowned for its wine and wine tasting (Degustation) is a popular holiday experience. The local vineyards of Bergerac, Duras, Buzet and Cahors offer a wide range of quality wines at varying prices.
Further Afield: For those in need of retail therapy Villeneuve sur Lot is our nearest large town, a 20 minutes drive away. The river Lot flows through the centre of Villeneuve which has many shops, fashion boutiques and pavement cafes. On the outskirts there are large Hypermarkets and other commercial outlets one finds in a large French town.
The Prefecture (County Town) of our department, Lot et Garonne is Agen some 45 minutes drive away with all of the facilities to be found in a major town. Further afield there are the cities of Bordeaux and Toulouse, approx 2 hours drive, both offer extensive range of shops/restaurants and the cities themselves are of great architectural interest.
Well-designed and equipped. Lovely pool. Friendly, helpful but unobtrusive hosts. Excellent situation on edge of charming town in an interesting area. English tv channels to keep up with news and tv favourites.Altogether and excellent home from home. Highly recommended.
La Maison d'Amis was perfect for our requirements. The property is in a quiet semi rural location, has been built to a very high quality standard and is maintained to an equally high standard. The gite is more than suitable for two people, is comfortable and well equipped but the highlight, for us, was the large private pool with great views of the countryside and a shaded area with a table, chairs and sunloungers.
Alison and John are perfect hosts, friendly, helpful and discrete.
Monflanquin is within a very easy walking distance and is an historical and very picturesque small town with well stocked supermarket and a number of good restaurants. The Thursday night market in the town square with great street food stalls and live music is a must to visit.
We opted for here because we wanted a gite which felt rural yet wasn't remote. This property delivered on both fronts! A pleasant stroll past detached houses, leads up up the to the edge of Montflanquin. (The history of the perched, bastide towns of this part of France is worth exploring in the tourist office - or at the beautifully refurbished T.O. at Marmande.) At the gite it’s always possible to find the perfect amount of sun (or shade) at one of the many outdoor seating areas and we loved being able to lie on sun loungers on the terrace, looking across the surface of the spotless pool to open countryside.
Wet weather midweek confined us indoors, but meant we toured more of the surrounding villages than anticipated - recommend following your hosts’ local knowledge re trips. John and Alison have a talent for hospitality. While discreetly on hand to see that all is well, they very much take the lead from guests with regard to the amount of contact that would develop in the course of a stay. We enjoyed quizzing them about their life in the village, when they invited us in for aperos one evening and the meal we booked in their conservatory, complete with vegetables from the garden. (The smoked salmon cheesecake!)
With village life on hand, a great Casino supermarket nearby, and a boulangerie to walk to for breakfast (splash out his artisan bread!) this is a place where you can feel you have lived in France for a while, rather than just visiting as a tourist.
We are always pleased to hear when our guests have enjoyed their holiday and that they appreciated what Monflanquin has to offer and particularly that the medieval town with its pretty arcaded square and cobbled alleyways is close enough to walk to yet the location of the gite overlooks open countryside. We also appreciate the importance for our guests to have as much privacy as they require yet we are available on site to offer any advice or assistance.
