|Téoules Cottage||Self Catering||Saturday||1||2||1||Cot|
The Cottage is said to be about 300 years old and is situated in the hamlet of Téoules, halfway between the villages of Bourran and Lafitte sur Lot in the department of Lot et Garonne which in turn is part of the region of Aquitaine and within the old region of Gascony. It is nestled towards the lower slopes of the hills running alongside the Lot valley
It is up a private drive (just solely for the Cottage) off a quiet country lane, the driveway of about 100 metres past apple, cherry and nut trees leads to a parking area for several cars, the garden gate and then into the garden.
The Cottage is a pleasant blend of old and new - it retains its historic old cottage style with its beams and quirky alcoves and corners, but has been refurbished and modernised to include all modern comforts and facilities.
The garden with the pool set into the lawn looks out on to a poplar plantation and then a small stream.
The Cottage and garden are totally private and not overlooked in any way.
It is quiet and peaceful and is a place to rest, recuperate and revive oneself.
From the entrance lobby you turn left into the modern kitchen. It was formerly the room where the nut harvest was stored, but now is fully refurbished. It includes modern equipment - electric oven, gas hob, washing machine, fridge with freezer section, dishwasher - and of course is fully equipped with kettle, toaster, pots, pans, crockery and cutlery ...etc.
Many guests have been complimentary about the equipment supplied.
The very large living room has huge old wooden beams ( how did they get them up there?), panelled walls and a large old Toulouse brick fireplace housing a wood burner stove. There are three electric radiators around the room.
It is furnished with two large comfy sofas near to the fireplace and facing on to a coffee table and then across to the tv and dvd player.
At one end of the living room is a dining table and chairs - and a glass paned door leading out to the terrace and garden.
A hi-fi music system for your cd's is provided
The master bedroom includes a romantic four poster bed fitted with a memory foam mattress. In addition there is a full sized dressing table and matching cabinets each side of the bed, with reading lamps.
Overhead is a ceiling fan for a gentle breeze on hot summer nights. There is a good sized wardrobe and full length mirror.
The bathroom is en suite to the bedroom and is white tiled floor to ceiling. It includes a modern shower cabinet, wc and vanity washbasin with full height mirror. Also a marble topped washstand, and laundry basket.
We also provide fluffy bathrobes as well of course full sets of towels.
There is a heated fan towel rail.
The Cottage has electric radiators throughout, as well as the huge fireplace and woodburning stove
Besides the exterior entertainment of the Jacuzzi Hot Tub and Sauna cabin we provide sunloungers and a hammock.
Bicycles are also provided.
A boule/petanque set is provided and some badminton type bats for casual games in the garden.
Inside there we provide a cupboard full of card and boardgames.
There is a hi-fi music set for your cds, as well of course as the tv and dvd player.
The garden is at the end of a long driveway which leads only to the Cottage. Here there is parking room for several cars.
Through the garden gate into the garden with the swimming pool set into the lawn.
The garden borders are full of bright flowers and shrubs. Flower tubs and hanging baskets decorate all round the garden.
To one side of the garden and adjacent to the entrance to the Cottage is a Scandinavian style pine clad auvent which houses the Hot Tub and Sauna. These are for your exclusive use and are not shared, as is the pool and whole garden and Cottage.
At the top of the separate and private gravelled driveway past the cherry and apple trees there is ample space for several cars just outside the Cottage garden gate.
The Cottage is suitable for couples of all ages and walks of life. Whilst many guests are older, seeking peace and quiet, we regularly have young couples including honeymooners. Indeed one honeymoon couple came back to stay after two years with their one year old baby, whom they thought had been "made" at Teoules Cottage.
The Cottage has only one small step from the kitchen to the living room and therefore, subject to that, is suitable for guests with reduced mobility, and several have been to stay and had no problems. From the driveway parking area the garden and entrance to the Cottage is flat.
We are fortunate in our location with three good airports within easy reach. Bergerac and Bordeaux are about 1 hour's drive and Toulouse about 1.5 hours, all with a good range of economy airlines such as Ryanair, Easyjet, Flybe etc.
The M62 motorway is within a 15 min drive and the super fast TGV train passes through the area about 15kms away, with several stations nearby.
Peter and Pippa are retired and have been in Aquitaine - this lovely part of France for many years. Previously we lived in N.Wales and on retirement moved immediately to this beautiful region.
|Year property purchased||2003|
|Why this location?||We searched all over southern France for many months and eventually came to this area with which we very quickly fell in love. A region of rolling hills, many big rivers, woods, lakes, fields of sunflowers and fruit orchards and dotted with fabulous old medieval villages to explore, especially the "Bastides", built defensively facing inwards to a central square where you can sit with a cool glass of wine and watch the world go by - slowly. We do it all the time.|
|Unique benefits of property||A haven of peace and tranquility the Cottage is both old and new - the building is several hundred years old with old beams, an ancient Toulouse brick fireplace and full of character, but completely refurbished with modern fixtures and fittings a short while ago, but retaining its old world charm.
The Cottage has its own private driveway leading to its private garden in which is placed the swimming pool exclusively for the Cottage. Adjacent to the Cottage are the LUXURY HOT TUB and SAUNA in their own open Scandinavian style pine clad auvent. The exterior terrace faces out on to the garden and pool and is perfect for alfresco dining with a large sunblind for shade from the hot sun. Also there are several trees also to provide shade in the hot summers.
The Cottage looks out on to a poplar tree plantation, and then a small stream, and is completely private and not overlooked in any way.
Complete privacy is assured, as is real peace and tranquillity in this beautiful quiet location
Clairac is a nearby beautiful old small town on banks of River Lot with very pleasant small lifeguarded beach with an attractive bar/restaurant overlooking the water. Explore the village you will find many architectural gems, including ancient collombage buidings, a 18th century lavoir and bathouse, and a four hundred year old Abbey and church. There are waterside walks, boating, swimming and fishing + a weekly market.
The town has an inexpensive Michelin mentioned restaurant, a creperie with an ancient courtyard and beautiful old interior, and a pleasant pizzeria where you can eat outside in the adjacent little square, as well as several bars with pavement tables.
Prayssas is a very old hilltop bastide town with a central square and an Estaminet bar to sit peacefully with a cold drink on a hot day. Explore the narrow streets and the old church from the top of which you can see the Pyrenees. There are two pleasant restaurants one of which has an amazing vaulted stone ceiling.
Prayssas also has a superb weekly evening market - very popular with locals and visitors alike. Eat food and wine from local farms and producers, at the tables provided and dance into the night.
Laparade- is also a hilltop bastide village which has a superb hotel/restaurant with amazing views over the Vallee du Lot. Walk through to the view platform and look down hundreds of feet to the river winding below. Also a notable weekly evening market - great fun to drink delicious wine from vineyards only a few kilometres away.
All three above are within a few minute drive - but also near ( 15/20 mins) are the attractive larger towns of Villeneuve sur Lot, Agen (the county town) and Marmande - all with many restaurants, larger shops, bars, cinemas etc.
SEASIDE & BEACHES - The Atlantic coast is within a couple hour drive with its amazing long white beaches and rolling surf - easy day trip.
The Mediterranean coast is a bit further, perhaps about three hours to the beautiful warm sea
A truly relaxing setting and a cottage with everything we could need. It was just as we expected from the information and the pictures. The owners were very welcoming.
Thank you Alison, we appreciate your comments very much - Pippa & Peter
