The house is a traditional maison de maitre, built in 1899. Its approached by a private drive over 100m long and is surrounded by its own grounds amidst arable farmland. It has five bedrooms, three bathrooms, large kitchen and two large reception rooms.
The English owners spend about 5 months of the year there - as one of our guests said in 2018 'it felt as though we were borrowing someone's home rather than a sterile rental property'. It is equipped for up to 12 people to stay there comfortably and a local English couple look after the property.
There is an 11m swimming pool, table tennis, gas and charcoal barbecues and extensive garden and poolside furniture. The outbuildings include a traditional timber-framed barn.
Overall the situation is private and peaceful, the gardens and pool are not overlooked and the nearest house is 600m away.
Since buying the property in 1986 we've rented it out for part of the summer. Many of those who stay have rebooked and return, currently about half of our guests have been before. Our longest-standing family first came in 1988 and now regularly book every other year (bringing the third generation!).
The kitchen is large with a door leading onto a terrace, ideal for outdoor meals with tables, chairs, gas and charcoal barbecues.
The kitchen itself has an open fireplace, dining table and chairs, cooker, microwave, fridge freezer, double sink unit, dishwasher, electric kettle, toaster, food processor etc.
There are also tables, chairs and sun umbrellas on the south-facing terrace overlooking the garden.
The sitting room is large - 6m x 5m - and leads off the kitchen and also has doors to the central hall. It has windows facing both south and east and is light and airy. Furniture includes two sofas, two armchairs, coffee table, occasional tables, and a well-stocked bookshelf. There is a flat screen tv with satellite box, dvd player and hi-fi.
Across the hall there is another reception room, which we call the playroom. Also 6m x 5m, with windows facing south and french doors facing west leading to the garden. There's a large table seating at least 10, and a sideboard with games and more books.

Ideal for families in the summer months. Plenty of space for all inside and out, the garden and pool are totally private and not overlooked. Every year about half of our guests have been before - one family first stayed in 1988 and now come every other year.

We bought the property over 30 years ago and initially spent school holidays there with our children. We now spend about 5 months a year there ourselves, love the area and have many friends locally. It's our second home (we live in London) but it's likely that we'll soon spend more time there than in the UK.

|Why this location?||We first came on holiday to the area in 1972 and loved it. Soon afterwards we bought a small farmhouse and stayed there with our children during school holidays. We got to know the area and the people well and in 1986 bought our current house, just 5 km from the original one. We love the local people and the way of life and wouldn't wish to move to any other part of France.|
|Unique benefits of property||The house itself is large and spacious with many attractive period features. The rooms are light and have high ceilings so it's cool in summer. The grounds are extensive, with mature trees providing shade when needed. The pool isn't overlooked (nearest house is 600m away) so overall it's totally private and very peaceful.|
Good tennis courts in Lauzun (5 mins drive from the house). Riding stables nearby. Bikes can be hired locally. Three golf courses within half an hours drive. Lakes nearby with windsurfers, pedalos etc for hire. And as well as the 11m pool the house has a table tennis table under cover by the pool.
The area is a gastronome's delight. Restaurants close by range from those in the Michelin Guide to local family-run establishments offering 3 course menus for a little over £10. Our guests are spoilt for choice! Local wines are good, too - from the Bergerac, Duras and Marmandais regions. Most producers welcome visitors, offer tastings and will sell direct.
Shopping is great too. Good supermarkets within 15 minutes drive and excellent weekly markets in the local towns. The kitchen in the house has all you'll need and there are gas and charcoal barbecues for al fresco meals.
The area is rich in history and many of the towns and villages seem remarkably unchanged over the centuries. There are impressive chateaux and churches to visit but it's also a joy just to stroll down the narrow streets in a small town and take in the traditional architecture.
In July and August the local towns put on a wide variety of events. Music with live bands, fetes, antique fairs, night markets with food and drink - all good fun and well attended.
Pujols is a fantastic place to have a relaxed and restful summer holiday. We have been visiting Pujols since the late 80s and the family love the house, the beautiful setting and the kids love the freedom of the large grounds and of course the pool.
The property has always served our large family vey well, the rooms are spacious and the size of the house and the grounds means there is always a quiet place available for some peace!
There are some very attractive Bastide towns in the area offering restaurants and markets as well as other great attractions like Chateaux.
You will need a car (or bike) to get to the local shops and amenities but the seclusion is part of the charm of Pujols.
Great property with loads of space and a fantastic pool. The property is very private and you need to drive to get anywhere but there are numerous villiages and small towns within a few minutes drive where you can get everything you need. The area is delightful and again there is a vast assortment of things to do. We particularly enjoyed touring around some of the vinyards south of Bergerac, visiting Bergerac town, wandering around the local markets in the smaller towns, and viewing ancient cave paintings near Les Eyzies.
We've just had our third holiday at Pujols, and each one is better than the last. It's a wonderful house, there's plenty of room for a mixture of adults and children to be together - and sometimes, just as importantly, to be apart. The house, garden and pool are all well maintained and we were contacted early on in the holiday to make sure everything was OK. There are supemarkets and boulangeries a short drive from the property, and it's a convenient 30 minutes drive from Bergerac airport. I would wholeheartedly recommend this holiday home, it's the best we've been to.
This is the third time of visiting Pujols and it is a great family favourite. We take all our 'blended' family crew- with everyone of all ages who look forward to going- treating it as 'home' for the time we are there. This is a large traditional well proportioned French property - old faded grandeur style - which suits us very well.
The house is well appointed- and comfortable- and it is easy to feel at home. There is plenty of all the necessaries- cutlery, plates, glasses etc, BBQs, sun loungers etc. A number of places to dine - al fresco as well as indoors. Plenty of space to take yourself off for 'peace and quiet'
The grounds are private and quiet - and the entrance drive up the house is a total pleasure. The house ticks all the boxes for us - large gentrifiedFrench property, pool, table tennis and grounds to play epic games of hide and seek, as well as loud dance off competitions.
The local shops all well provisioned for all the essentials and not so essential. The tradional towns nearby all have something to offer. They all offer markets, good eating and are very pretty to wander around. Eymet (wine shop -excellent and well informed owner, as well as plenty of good eating) is a big hit as well as Issigeuac and Bergerac.
We have done kayaking each time we have been - lovely and there are plenty of options up and down the scale of entertainment.
This has been an excellent return holiday for us - undoubtedly we will return.
