About the Owner/Advertiser, Mr Paul Wigmore

We arrived here on the 24 July 2017, after several long months of buying and selling. We lived and worked in Devon, England for 30 years. Paul was a secondary school teacher and Sarah worked for a Housing Association. We have two daughters and a grandson all living in Devon. <br/>We have always loved this part of South West France and often visited with our two daughters and dreamed of moving here. Domaine de France is the perfect place to enjoy all SW France has.

Why this location? Penne d'Agenais is a great location to enjoy the wines and countryside of Aquitaine Penne d'Agenais is one of the most picturesque bastide villages in the region, boasting restaurants and cafes as well as craft businesses, such as pottery and art studios.

The village is home to the impressive Basilica, Notre Dame de Peyragude, which overlooks the village and the River Lot.

Described as the “Tuscany” of France, Lot et Garonne in Aquitaine is a department famous for its countryside with orchards and vineyards, farms, oak forests and quaint medieval ”bastide” villages. Penne overlooks the River Lot, and because of this perfect defensive position, the village in the past was strategically important. The area is rich in sites of historical interest most of which date from the 13 Century of the French-English rivalry.

Bonaguil's castle

30 to 35 mins (28.5 km)
Probably one of the best château in South West France. This is really the ultimate fortress. Well worth visiting. In a nice setting, beautifully restored. You can really imagine how the life went on.

Monflanquin: most beautiful village (16km)

The central square in Monflanquin, the Place des Arcades, has beautifully preserved arcades around the edges and many other impressive buildings. The square is also home to the weekly market each Thursday, as it has been since 1256!
During the summer they hold a Medieval festival with jousting, archery and lots more for all the family.

Libos et Monsepron Market

This is only 15 minutes from us and is a superb french market. Having been to all the markets around this is one of the best with more stalls and so much more choice.
The food stalls are amazing and the choice including organic (bio) is exceptional. Well worth a visit.

Chateau de Biron

40 mins (38.3 km)
Great to explore. The route takes you to different ages of the chateau. No furniture in place. Great views of the surrounding land. An amazing place. Staircases would be difficult for some. Amazing to think what it was like centuries ago. Lovely little village around the base with a couple of nice places to eat or drink.

Pujols

This stunning hilltop village has beautiful views. A medieval town with pretty walkways, and gardens.
The sunday market is great to soak up the atmosphere of a french market and the night markets are a real find.

Le Patio d'Hauteville

This lovely restaurant has views from its covered terrace
over the Lot countryside, including our house.
The food is good and the menus are well priced. We recommend the lunchtime menu de jour

Le Peyragude

Such a warm welcome from the host and such a good menu choice, whether you go for an evening or lunchtime meal . The set menus are good value for money and delicious.
