About this property

Unique Chance To Stay In A Renovated Train Station. This cottage/gite is in a village setting.

This unique and thoughtfully restored old 'Railway Station' building with its high ceilings and elegant French doors is a wonderful opportunity to experience a piece of French railway history. Its industrial past has long faded and in its stead is a charmingly rural property in one of the most popular areas on the edge of the Dordogne. The rails have been removed and replaced with a terrace overlooking a garden of fruit trees and the old waiting room houses a table tennis table.

Entrance to the property is off the road connecting Eymet and Miramont de Guyenne. After passing a small neighbouring property and through private gates the driveway sweeps around to the front of the house and tall double glazed french doors lead into the Hallway. From the hallway a staircase rises to the first floor where there are 3 double bedrooms all with charming “Bateau” beds and a 4th bedroom furnished with twin beds. One of the double bedrooms is accessed either through the single bedded room or one of the other double bedded rooms. The magnificent bathroom has a wc, sink and bath with shower over. There is also a separate wc.

Enjoy the comfort of the magnificent living area with a comfortable modern sofa which comfortably seats 6. The joy of this house lies with the tasteful and tender care in which this property has been restored and updated, being mindful not to take away the original character.

Downstairs the light and elegant living room, furnished in keeping with the period of the building, has a high ceiling and tall glazed doors opening out onto the terrace at the rear where there is a table and 8 chairs protected by the original glazed platform roof. There is a dining table which can be extended to seat 8 in the adjacent dining room. A wood burning insert is in the dining room and a stone fireplace constructed with the original stones from the platform in the living room.

The kitchen has been tastefully updated with the very popular 'French shabby chic' look which includes a gas hob, electric oven, fridge, microwave and dishwasher with French double doors which leads out onto a covered terrace. A few steps away from this terrace is another small building which shelters a large built in barbeque and cooking area with adjacent sink. Inside this building is another larger sink, a freezer and a washing machine.

Accessed through the end of the old waiting room building is the fenced salt water swimming pool with plenty of outdoor sun loungers and the owners invite guests to pick fruit from the abundant fruit trees in the garden.

English free view tv and internet are available. Linen is included in the price of this property.

Information about any additional facilities

For a good many years, British travellers have been fascinated by the Dordogne area of France that conjures up an image of a return to rural life at a slow pace; it has even been said that the Dordogne, for the English, is imagined not really as an area of modern France - which it is - but more as an imaginary reproduction of a bygone rural England - which of course it is not - rather like a warmer and sunnier version of the old Cotswolds, where the houses are built of honey-coloured stone, the meadows are green and rich. Like Tuscany, Départ. de la Dordogne surrounding a long stretch of the lower Dordogne between hills and plain. Virtually the whole area is attractive hill country, full of old villages, castles, small country towns and plenty of scope for relaxing and enjoyable holidays. While the depart. of the Dordogne itself is increasingly geared to tourism, much of the area, particularly further into the hills, is very much off the beaten track and just waiting to be discovered

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Lorraine Knowles

7 years ago we moved to France with the intention of retiring. We started to do a little bit of summer work to help keep us in contact with the locals. To our surprise this grew into a little business looking after houses i.e. gardening, pool upkeep, property security but has now grown into a full time business. Owners of these properties began to ask us to advertise their properties so we had a go and it’s turned into a wonderful success

Year property purchased 2013
Why this location? Perfect for peace and quiet but not far from restaurants, local markets and of course not forgetting Bergerac is just one place that is a must to visit, driving past many vineyards on the way. Bergerac airport which is approx three quarters hour drive away.
Unique benefits of property Beautiful garden with private pool and having the chance to stay in a typical original French Railway Station which has been converted to a very high standard.

Marché Gourmand Nocturn’ (evening markets).
For the real taste of Summer in France, then don’t miss one of the ‘Marché Gourmand Nocturn’ (evening market). This is dining ‘al fresco’ as it should be. Select somewhere to sit at the one of the many trestle tables then, browse the stalls selling local cooked meats and produce from which to make your selection of a meal. To accompany this choose a bottle of wine from one of the local wine producers. Why not finish by having a crepe, fresh fruit, gateau or ice cream. The ambiance deepens as the entertainment gets going and you may even get to your feet to dance a step
