Set at the edge of a small hamlet in unspoilt countryside and accessed by a quiet farm lane, Les Lezards is the perfect location to relax and enjoy the very best of rural France. The gite was converted from an old farm building in 2012 and our aim is to provide luxury open plan living whilst ensuring the property is perfectly suited for friends and families alike.
The gite is nestled amongst open farmland, with extensive views to the woods and rolling hills beyond. A chemin rural (a bridle path) passes along the boundary of the grounds, allowing guests to quickly and easily access the beautiful countryside and woodland, which offers fantastic opportunities for walking and wildlife spotting. We have deer frequently visible in the gardens and we have regular visits from wild boar, hedgehogs and of course lizards (from which the gite takes its name).
We have combined modern luxury touches with traditional rural French style to ensure you are able to feel right at home from the moment you walk through the door. The property offers flexible accommodation over three bedrooms and direct access to the extensive grounds, as well as your own private and secure patio area. The patio is fully equipped to allow guests to dine outside and to enjoy the warmth and tranquillity that rural French living can offer. It is positioned just a short walk from the outdoor pool – perfect for cooling off, relaxing with a drink, or entertaining the children. The gardens allow guests to explore and let off steam, with a range of toys and games for children of all ages, including a trampoline, swings, a tree house and a slide.
The three bedrooms offer a range of sleeping options, with each one benefiting from en suite facilities. Two of the three bedrooms are fitted with French doors, allowing direct access to the grounds. Traditional wooden shutters are fitted to all windows and doors, allowing guests to maintain a comfortable temperature during the hottest weather, or a sense of cosiness during the colder months.
The gite is located just 10 minutes from two historic towns, offering a range of amenities, whether you require local shops, larger supermarkets, leisure facilities and of course traditional outdoor markets. We are confident you will find all you need nearby, but we will happily assist those wishing to venture further afield. With a beautiful swimming lake nearby (complete with beach), golf courses, horse riding, vineyards and a huge choice of interesting and historic towns and villages within easy reach, your biggest challenge will be deciding what to do next!
The kitchen is fitted with a range of modern fitted units and is equipped with everything you need to feel at home. The kitchen has been thoughtfully planned out at one end of an open plan room. The layout is ideally suited for families and groups, ensuring no one is left out of the fun! You will find all the modern appliances you would expect, including dual ovens, a microwave and a dishwasher. When combined with crockery and cutlery for 12 settings, as well as a selection of child sized crockery and cutlery, we aim to provide you with everything you need to make your stay comfortable and relaxing.
The open plan dining area is situated between the kitchen and the living room, with seating provided for six, and high chairs are available upon request. Many of our guests find that they quickly settle into a routine of outdoor dining, making the most of the weather and the idyllic scenery.
The living room is equipped to allow guests to feel right at home, whether relaxing with a glass of wine, or spending time with friends or family. There are three two-seater sofas, with a further armchair and a coffee table. Lighting is provided by a combination of down lighters as well as freestanding lamps offering flexible lighting, whether for reading, or watching television.
The television has satellite tv, offering a range of British channels through a Sky box. Wireless internet is provided by satellite within the gite. Due to the rural location of the property, the speed is more suited to catching up on social media and checking emails rather than streaming videos etc. For those visiting in the colder months, a log burner provides a warm and cosy feel to the space.
Each of the three bedrooms is fitted with en suite facilities, two with baths, and one with a walk in shower. One of the rooms has beds which can be configured to meet your needs, ensuring everyone enjoys a fantastic night’s sleep. The rooms have ample storage provided in the form of wardrobes and a chest of drawers, as well as hairdryers and even an emergency torch!
Bedroom one is fitted with a king sized bed and benefits from French patio doors leading directly onto the grounds. This room is equipped with a modern en suite bathroom, which includes a walk-in shower.
Bedroom two can be configured as a spacious twin room with two standard sized single beds, or the beds can be joined to provide a superking bed. The room benefits from French patio doors as well as modern en suite facilities, including a bath with shower.
Bedroom three is a twin room, with two standard sized single beds. This bedroom enjoys an en suite spacious bathroom, which includes a bath with shower.
Each bedroom has a modern and luxurious feel to their own en suite facilities. There are large hot water tanks, which means that everyone can enjoy the relaxing sensation of unwinding at the end of the day.
Just off the main open plan living space is a separate wc, meaning those who have been enjoying the outside do not need to head into the bedrooms to answer the call of nature! Furthermore, a separate shower is fitted next to the swimming pool for use by guests before and after using the swimming pool.
Les Lezards is heated by a large 14kw wood burning stove situated centrally within the main open plan living space. The wood burning stove is a delightful feature, and a real focal point for the room, as well as providing enough heat to ensure the entire property is warm and cosy.
We will provide an initial quantity of wood, and additional is available to purchase directly from the owners. In the cooler months, we can also supply additional convection heaters which can be used to provide a boost to key parts of the property. Hot water is supplied from large tanks giving 500l, which is usually plenty for all guests, right through the year.
The gite is well equipped to entertain all; come rain or shine. In the living space, a flat screen tv and a dvd player is provided. The tv provides UK satellite channels, ensuring you can stay up to date with news and programming from back home if you wish.
We also supply a range of toys and games to suit children and adults of all ages. These include, Lego, jigsaw puzzles, dolls and prams. We also have a range of ride on toys, and bicycles (although no guarantee is made as to whether or not we have the size you require). We do not provide safety helmets for those using the bikes - please ensure that you bring suitable sized helmets for anyone using bicycles. Please feel free to ask should you require further details.
Set in just under 1 hectare (2.5 acres), the gite is accessed via a quiet road, which leads only to the local farm and the gite/main property. This provides the perfect place to relax or to play. For those who enjoy exploring the great outdoors, a chemin rurale passes the front and side boundaries of the property, and leads towards the nearby woods, which offers walks to suit all tastes.
The main gardens consist of a large lawned area, and numerous shrubs, trees and flower beds scattered around the property. There is a range of fruit trees (mostly plum and greengage), which our guests are welcome to help themselves to.
A range of garden toys are available for guests to use during their stay, including swings, a large trampoline, slide and climbing frame – enough to keep even the most energetic in your group satisfied!
The above ground swimming pool (summer only), is accessed by a set of removable steps for the safety of young visitors. We also have a paddling pool.
The property benefits from ample off-road parking on a private driveway.
There is an additional single covered parking space within an open barn for use by those using Les Lezards.
All of the areas are covered by automatic lighting.
Being at the end of a very quiet rural lane there have been no problems with security or safety with any parked vehicle, we are confident that this pattern will not change.
The property is suited to a broad range of visitors, with plenty of space in and around the building.
Whilst the majority of the gite is on the same level, there are two steps up to each of the three bedrooms.
Of the three bedrooms, two are fitted with French doors which lead outside, directly to the gardens, therefore we would advise caution to those with children who may like to explore their surroundings!
The third bedroom has no such direct access to the outside - designed with young children's safety in mind.
The property has four toilets, which is above average for a property of this size.
For those visiting with small children, we have limited availability of push chairs for guests’ use. Please feel free to contact us for availability and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
We pride ourselves on making sure our guests are able to relax, and to enjoy the very best that the area can offer.
We are able to offer a number of additional services for guests, to make your stay more enjoyable.
Eggs are usually available on site (chickens permitting), from our own small flock of chickens – you will never experience such fresh eggs!
From time to time we are asked to help with babysitting. Whilst this is not a standard service we offer, we strive to support our guests, so feel free to ask.
Having raised our own family we are aware of the stress of taking young children away and will always do whatever we can to reduce or remove such stress if we can help. It is very common for children to interact with us - as a former biology teacher there is always a fount of knowledge about "natural history" available - including creepy crawlies so that youngsters can find out as a part of their holiday about the natural world around them.
Children love it!
I am a retired science teacher living in a rural idyll with wildlife all around me. I love watching animals and plants developing and living in the peaceful woodland around our property. Taking our Border Collie for a walk through the woods or around the many lakes nearby is a real pleasure. My wife, a former specialist paediatric nurse, shares my pleasure and loves working with children of all ages. We have made our gite family friendly and the comments that we have received confirm this.
|Year property purchased||2009|
|Why this location?||The Lot et Garonne has superb summers and generally milder weather than the SW of the UK where we lived for 40+ years. The traffic is non-existent in the area except for farm vehicles to work the open fields around us. There is a multitude of things to do around the area - including numerous Chateaux, some with old-fashioned games to keep adults and children alike challenged, others used as film sets for various productions, some with restored medieval weapons - a sure delight for young boys! The river only 20 minutes drive away features the chance of kayak trips from one hour to a full day and there are many other rivers around offering similar challenges. Our nearest town is small c/w UK standards but features everything needed for any stay here without venturing too far. In the summer there are weekly "Producers Markets" in the town centre which attract people from all round to sample the local produce prepared by those that grow it - delicious in every respect and always popular.|
|Unique benefits of property||It was converted from a former barn in 2011/12 and the emphasis was on luxury with every bedroom being en suite. The property is ery well insulated so in summer it remains cool inside and the fenced patio is always popular with young children with the play items available. The swimming pool is above ground - to ensure the safety of young children but is sufficiently large and deep as to prove very popular - it is solar heated to maximise comfort and environmental sustainability. The gite is fully equipped with all necessary machines including utility appliances and all the items normally found in any well equipped kitchen - and even recipe books to help you experience new culinary tastes. There are numerous restaurants around ranging from simple fixed menu lunches at 11.50€ for four courses including wine, to Michelin starred restaurants - to suit all tastes and pockets. We will happily guide you and make reservations if you wish - all restaurants around here are child-friendly.|
Every Monday evening in July and August these uniquely French markets feature the producers of foods grown around the area who prepare and cook their products and sell them to visitors. The events are always popular - tables and chairs are freely available and it is a great place to meet friends or make them. The communal tables rapidly fill up and it is a great time to get chatting to others visiting or living in the area. Sample the local duck (a speciality of the area) or the locally made wines (delicious) and enjoy the live entertainment laid on by the commune that may well have you up on your feet dancing.
There are similar but smaller events in other villages around the area so that it is possible to eat at a Producers Market virtually every day of the week.
