About the Owner/Advertiser, Mr Simon Hitches

We have lived in the region, Gascony, Aquitaine for 2 years, holidaying for many. The department untouched by mass tourism is known for its excellent fruit, vegetables, produce, famous and distinctive lesser known wines, available locally and at the many traditional French markets, or at the nearby fantastic real French Auberges, or the local michelin starred restaurant. The real charm of the area is its tranquility and serenity which we love and hope to guide you to it too.

Year property purchased 2016
Why this location? This little-considered area of France, Gascony, between the Dordogne and the Pyrenees, has so far escaped the touch of mass tourism. Known for its bold red wines, Armagnac, cassoulet, magret de canard, pruneau d'Agen, garlic, fiercely independent spirit, and friendly welcome.
With its rolling fields of sunflowers and poppies, endless vineyards and kilometres of empty country roads, it is the French countryside at its most tranquil. The climate of warm summers, short winters and Indian Summers, have ensured that the area remains predominantly agricultural, encouraging fine crops of fruits and flowers from the region’s fertile soil.
The real charm lies in its serenity. Yet the history to many of its small chateaux and bastides (there are more than 500) is less than peaceful.
Eating, drinking, walking, cycling, fishing and canoeing - there is plenty to do. But the spirit of the place is captured by taking it easy.
Unique benefits of property Ideally situated between Le Lot and Le Garonne rivers, only 75kms south of Bergerac airport, take the kilometers of empty country roads, perhaps by bike or on foot to Laroque Timbaut under 4kms away with all amenties and an excellent boulangerie. We are situated right on the edge of a large ecological 'zone' protected because of its rare and special flora, providing the start of many mapped walks.
Relax in the clean and comfortable surroundings of our gîte having 2 bedrooms, sleeping up to 6, 2 bathrooms, in a private park with an exclusive 10m pool. Dogs welcome.

The Owner Recommends

Traditional French markets, daily within easy reach from the gîte.

The Lot et Garonne department is known for its quality fruit, vegetables, produce, famous and lesser known bold wines. Sample these at the one of the many daily, local, traditional French markets located in the surrounding villages or try the larger markets at Agen (our favourite) or Villeneuve Sur Lot.

Auberge du Brelan

A short drive or taxi ride away. Sample the consistently excellant family run auberge

Boulangerie

Le Gascon boulangerie. 3km in Laroque Timbaut excellent, open 6 days per week.
