Spacious, Stone Cottage With Swimming Pool. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

La Petite Meyra is a spacious, well equipped stone-built cottage with pigeonnier tower and swimming pool in the grounds of a restored farmhouse. Set in the rolling Perigordian countryside of the Lot-et-Garonne, the cottage is within easy reach of airports and auto-routes.
Centrally heated and with free wifi throughout, the cottage is available for rental all year. The medieval bastide villages of Eymet and Miramont-de-Guyenne are 5 minutes drive away, where you will find a good selection of restaurants and supermarkets. Every day of the week there are traditional markets selling local produce in nearby villages. The surrounding countryside is very pleasant for walking and cycling and you can hire bikes in the neighbouring village of Eymet. It is situated close to many excellent wine growing areas (Bergerac, Saussignac, Monbazillac, Duras) and can advise on wine-tasting visits. The internationally acclaimed vineyards of St Emilion (1 hour) and the Medoc (2hours) are well worth a visit. There is an excellent 27 hole golf course at Chateau Vigiers (20 mins) and a local 9-hole course (10 mins). Bird watchers will be interested to know we are directly in the bird migratory route and have spectacular views of thousands of cranes passing over the house in spring and autumn. There is also a bird sanctuary at Arcachon, on the coast near Bordeaux.

The cottage sleeps 4. The large ground floor bedroom has twin beds; the smaller bedroom (also on the ground floor) has a double bed. If required there is an additional single bed in the tower accessed by a steep staircase – for the nimble only. Each bedroom has ample hanging and drawer space, plus an electric fan. Adjacent to the ground floor bedrooms is a shower room with wash-hand basin and a separate WC and wash-hand basin.

In the large living/dining area there is a flat screen tv with Sky free-to-view channels, dvd player, Norwegian Jotul wood burning stove and a large, comfortable sofa and armchairs.

The galley-style kitchen is well equipped and in addition there is a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, gas hob, electric oven and microwave. There is also a washing machine, iron, ironing-board, hair dryer and small supplies of household items for your use.

French windows lead onto the terrasse where you will find deck-chairs, parasols, outdoor seating, shady trees and a bbq. You are welcome to explore the rose gardens, wildlife pond and orchard on the 1-hectare property. A variety of sports equipment, games, books, dvds etc. are available on request.

Guests have exclusive use of the secluded 11m x 5m swimming pool from 8.30 am until 7 pm daily. The owners swim between 7 and 8 pm. The pool is cleaned each morning between 8 and 8.30 a.m. The pool is generally open between mid-May and mid-October. Pool towels, sun loungers and parasols are supplied.

Bergerac airport is 25 minutes away, Bordeaux airport 1½ hrs and Toulouse airport 2½ hrs. The Channel ports are easily accessible by car.

Please note, the wildlife pond is accessible from the courtyard so great care must be taken with children; the owners of this property state it is not suitable for young children.

Local markets

Eymet's traditional market is on a Thursday, there are also Monday markets in Miramont-de-Guyenne and Duras on a Monday. The Sunday market in Issigeac is extremely popular and well worth a visit. There are very popular night markets during the summer months throughout the area.

Beautiful villages

The area is home to some of the most beautiful villages in France. Named as some of 'Les plus beaux villages de France', Belves, Beynac-et-Cazenac, Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, Domme, La Roque-Gageac, Monflanquin and Monpazier are all worth a visit.

Chateau visits

Head east of the property and visit the impressive chateaux of Biron, Beynac and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle.

Beautiful gardens

The Jardins de Marqueyssac are beautiful, and the view from the viewing platform across the Dordogne valley towards La Roque-Gageac is spectacular.
