'Beziat' is lovely old stone 'corps de ferme' - a property typical of this region with the main house and cottage set in mature, fully secured grounds of 4.5 hectares which back directly onto the River Lot.
We have various outbuildings, including the pool area and spa, the american barn stables and various granges. (once used for drying tobacco) The buildings are set well back from the country road and the property is peaceful and tranquil - although not secluded, as the mediaeval village of Clairac is just 1.5km down the road. We have just finished renovating the 18th century stone built cottage in the grounds, giving 2 bedrooms (a double and a twin bed room), one bathroom and a fully equipped open kitchen and a sitting room.
The cottage is renovated to a high standard and has all that is necessary to ensure a relaxing and comfortable stay. The cottage has its own small private bbq and patio area, lighting and table and chairs. There is satellite tv with English Channels, dvd, a cd player and books. We have internet access (wi-fi) and pamphlets and flyers on places to visit. The cottage has a woodburning stove for those chillier evenings, and the bathroom has an electric towel rack/wall heater. There is an air-conditioning unit in the main living area and fans in the bedrooms. The kitchen has oven, plate, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, coffee-machine, toaster, kettle, plates, cutlery etc. etc. All cleaning and laundry materials are bio/eco, non-allergenic and I will happily supply laundering and cleaning products. There is a washing machine in the grange for guest use. All towels and bed linen are supplied. Guests are invited to enjoy the rest of the gardens and the fully secured private pool and spa area which are exclusively for your use. We also have dogs, cats, a horse, sheep, chickens, ducks and geese, a 'potager' and fruit trees (we are fully bio/organic and will happily supply you with eggs from our chickens and produce from our garden - when in season!)
The river is a short stroll and is on our land. The Lot is famous for its wild carp so try night fishing! Black bass are also a popular catch when river boat fishing on the Lot. Roach, rudd, perch, pike and zander haunt these waters too! The road outside of the property follows the meandering river Lot to the mediaeval village of Clairac (approx 1.5km).
The village, with its sand river beach, boulangeries, restaurants, bar, bank, chemist, small supermarket, doctors surgery and weekly market, are all a gentle bike ride or walking distance for the energetic! There are delightful walks and very good cycling in the surrounding countryside. For your afternoons and evenings out, this area of France has a greater variety of scenery than almost anywhere else, the surf beaches and sand dunes of Arcachon; the Cathar country of Carcassonne; the mountains of the Pyrenees, the mediaeval and bastide towns of Nerac; Monflanquin; Pujols; Bonaguil; Rocamador; Moissac and Cahors, and the rolling countryside, orchards and sunflowers of the Lot valley. Whether you wish to go wine tasting, visiting chateaux, eating out at wonderful restaurants, picnicking on the river, enjoying an evening out at one of the many night markets, walking, cycling, touring or just relaxing by the pool reading your favourite novel or sitting in front of the river 'gone fishing' style, watching the world go by, we are sure you will find it all here. It is a truly spectacular area steeped in both history and beauty.

I was born in London in 1958, I was educated, lived and worked there until 2000. Having worked in the City of London for over 20 years, I felt that I needed a radical change of life - the children were grown and no longer dependent on me. I had horses most of my life and loved the countryside and when my mother retired to this part of France I, like her, found the peace and tranquility that eventually compelled me to stay!
|Year property purchased||2000|
|Why this location?||A sheet of shimmering mist hovered just above the river, the glass-like water still in the mornings early hours. Old stone houses set on the rivers banks - and the silence so deep and so profound after the noises of the city. The sun started to rise and the promise of a warm day filled the air. The landscape is almost achingly rural and The Lot doesn't scream tourism so much as murmur the word and with some grace. Beziat, an old 'corps de ferme' has taken some renovating, but is now home. Close enough to the villages of Lafitte and Clairac not to be secluded but just far enough away.....|

Just follow the signs to Laparade from Clairac
There are various night markets (you take a picnic basket and buy your food there) Laparade is the closest and always has live music. Praysass (about 20 mins away) has a lovely setting in the old village.
