We are Hugh and Fiona and we moved to France in 2010. Fiona left her job in teaching and Hugh his job in Government IT. We love living here in this beautiful corner of south west France, running our gîte and B & B, and really enjoy welcoming our guests and sharing our beautiful surroundings. Our aim is to ensure that all of our guests have the best time ever and that they all want to come back for more!

|Why this location?||During our search for a new home, we stopped at Vue de Duras and glimpsed for the first time the stunning panoramic view across the valley; it immediately captured our hearts and we knew that this was the location for us. On a more practical note Vue de Duras is just 3kms from Duras with its medieval Château, restaurants, bars, shops, bank, and a market once a week.
Our closest ferry port is St Malo that is 6 hours driving time away. We are 6 hours 40 minutes driving time from Caen and 4 hours 30 minutes from Bilbao.
We are 40 minutes drive from Bergerac airport and 80 minutes from Bordeaux airport.
We are ideally placed for exploring the neighbouring departments of the Dordogne and the Gironde.
|Unique benefits of property||Standing in the large grounds of Vue de Duras is our gîte that opened in June 2011 and featured in ITV's "Little England" and the Living France magazine. It is a lovely two bedroom holiday cottage that still has its original lovely old oak beams that have been incorporated into a comfortable and stylish interior.
It is set on the south facing slope of a valley with spectacular views of Duras and its chateau. It is in a very peaceful location among vines and plum trees, and is accessed from the village of Savignac de Duras by a country lane. The clear skies with little light pollution give an amazing show of the stars and planets at night.
We are situated on the borders of the Lot and Garonne, the Dordogne and the Gironde and so are ideally placed for exploring the beautiful countryside, medieval towns, vineyards and markets of all 3 departments.
The local markets are always worth a visit. There is a market in Duras on a Monday, one in Eymet on a Thursday, and one in Monségur on a Friday. The market at Sainte Foy-la-Grande is one of the largest in the area and is on a Saturday. There is also a lovely market in the picturesque medieval village of Issigeac on a Sunday.
Fiona and Hugh can advise on all the local restaurants.
One outstanding dining experience is at Famille Moutiers - 6 courses, a vast cheese board and different wines with each course, and all very reasonably priced.
For wine lovers, Vue de Duras is ideally placed for visiting the Maison des Vins de Duras, Saint Emilion, Bergerac, and the spectacular Cité du Vin at Bordeaux. Fiona and Hugh can provide maps showing the local vineyards and help in arranging tastings.
You get a wonderful view of Duras Château from the the terrace of the gîte. It dates from the 12th century. It was occupied by the English in the Hundred Years’ War. Today this former residence of the Dukes of Duras contains 30 rooms including kitchen, bakery, dungeons, wells, and a 360 degree panoramic view from the top of the tower.
There are other impressive châteaux to visit at Biron, Beynac and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle.
For guests who want access to all of our beautiful countryside, we would recommend this company who deliver and pick up, and provide all the safety gear as well.
