Bright Spacious Townhouse in Central Duras. This villa is in a town setting.

Stay in the heart of medieval Duras and enjoy night markets, festivals, restaurants and bars without having to drive. All amenities are in easy walking distance, including banks, estate agents, a chemist, small supermarket, bread shops and the weekly morning markets. Light and airy, the house comfortably accommodates 6 people in three bedrooms with two bathrooms (showers). Relax on the first floor dining terrace - a really sunny spot with seating and bbq provided.

While it is possible to holiday in Duras without a car (contact details for airport transfer services can be provided on request), public transport is not available locally, so access to a car is recommended if you would like to enjoy all the amenities that the surrounding countryside, towns and villages have to offer.

Peak season is July and August when the town really comes to life with various festivals, Thursday night markets, exhibitions, tours of the historic Château and a very popular wine festival. There is an outdoor swimming pool available for public use just 10km's away on the edge of Monsegur as well as a much larger indoor/outdoor complex 25km's away in Marmande. Various lakeside and river beaches are also within a 30+ minute drive and can offer a great family day out. Other activities in the general area include golf courses, horse riding, canoeing and other boat trips, and of course many opportunities for walking or cycling in the beautiful countryside surrounding Duras (bicycle hire is available in Duras).

Duras lies in the heart of wine country with many independent wineries offering complementary tastings - some also have gastronomic evenings with locally produced specialities to complement your wine. The area is also famous for delicious prunes, hazelnuts and for chocolates combining the two in irresistible sweet treats! Locally sourced duck products, tasty cheeses and a huge variety of fruits and vegetables are on offer every Monday morning at the Duras weekly traditional French market.

A very generous allowance for your use of electricity and water is already included in the rental price, but we do reserve the right to pass on the actual cost of any units consumed in excess of this.

Kitchen and dining

On the ground floor there's a bright 11 metre (36 ft) open plan living and dining room, a shower room, separate toilet and a bright fully fitted and equipped kitchen with fridge-freezer, full electric oven, gas hob, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee-maker. There are double doors from a sunny hallway linking the dining room and kitchen, to a long passage leading to a rear entrance on a quiet road with free on-street parking.

Living rooms

Inside the house, all appliances are shiny and new, there are comfy sofas and UK satellite tv in the lounge area, a lovely long dining table, and on the first floor there's a sunny terrace with additional outside dining facilities for 6, including a bbq. Free wi-fi is available.


Enclosed stairs lead to the first floor where you will find another shower room with toilet and sink, and 3 bedrooms. The front bedroom is lovely and sunny with two windows to the front of the property and has a large 160cm (63 inch) double bed. The rear bedroom is also very bright and airy with frenchdoors onto the dining terrace and a 140cm (55 inch) double bed. The slightly more compact internal third bedroom has two 90cm (36 inch) single beds with borrowed natural light coming from a skylight into the attic (where there is a Velux window in the roof). All the bedrooms have plenty of storage.

All bed linen is provided for your stay as are towels for the bathroom. If you would like towels to use for sunbathing etc. please bring these with you or request some older towels for this purpose.


There are 2 modern shower rooms, one on the ground floor with a large Italian-style open shower, and on the first floor a shower room which has an enclosed cabin shower, toilet and sink unit.
Also on the ground floor is a separate wc.


Heating is via individual electric radiators - in the low season electricity is charged at cost in addition to rent so you only pay for what you use.


UK satellite and free wi-fi is available within the house.

Garden and outside

There is a sunny private roof terrace accessed by one of the double bedrooms - bistro style dining tables and chairs are provided as well as a gas bbq for your use.

Parking and garages

Free on-street parking is available close to the property.

Visitor suitability

All sleeping accommodation is upstairs so the house is not very suitable for disabled visitors. In addition, there is no cot or highchair so the house is perhaps not suitable for very young children.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Ms Tina Raison

I live and work in Duras very close to the rental property. I make and sell sterling silver jewellery, create paintings and greeting cards in various different media, and use a small kiln to make fused glass, enamel and ceramic pieces to incorporate into my jewellery. I fell in love with this area in 1999 when I bought the house I live in and still enjoy living here today. It would be my great pleasure to welcome you if you decide to book a holiday.

Why this location? The local area is well known for great wines at reasonable prices and most vineyards offer tastings throughout the year. The Maison des vins de Duras is within walking distance with friendly staff offering wine tastings and sales of most local wines. Other local delicacies include duck products, prunes, hazelnuts and a variety of cheeses and conserves. Duras itself is a lovely small town offering a range of shops, bars and restaurants within easy walking distance of the property.
Unique benefits of property Located in the heart of medieval Duras, the property offers easy access to the very popular night markets, festivals, restaurants and bars, all without having to drive. The house is less than 100m from the historic Clock Tower in the medieval centre of Duras, and while an old townhouse the property has been renovated to a high standard with all the modern conveniences and a lovely bright interior. A first floor sun terrace accessed via one of the double bedrooms provides a space to dine "al fresco" or to sunbathe in a private area. There is plenty of free on-street parking in the centre of Duras, with places very close to the rear entrance of the house.

Wine Tasting

Start at the Maison des vins de Duras to get a great overview of the local wines (a reasonably short walk from the property, although it will be uphill on the way home). Another good value option is a visit to Berticot - the local cooperative winery. The tourist information office a short walk from the house also has lots of leaflets for local vineyards and wine routes.

Visit the Historic Chateau de Duras

With opening times throughout the year the Chateau de Duras dominates the town and is a must-see attraction. Again, the Chateau is in very easy walking distance of the property.

La Maison Guinguet - Chocolaterie Artisanale

Anyone who likes chocolate will LOVE a visit to Maison Guinguet. Located close to Duras just off the road from Duras to Monsegur, this attraction is probably best visited by car. You can try before you buy with lots of chocolate tastings available. In the peak summer months there are also guided tours of the site where these delicious treats are made.

Eat Out in Duras

There are several excellent bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. La Terrasse de Duras overlooks the Chateau and offers traditional French cuisine. Restaurant Pizzeria Don Camillo has a pretty square for al fresco dining in the summer and offers a mixture of Italian and French dishes, and the pizzas are very good! Chai et Rasade also in the centre of Duras is a great little wine bar offering great wines, friendly service, fantastic cold meat platters and the best quiche I've tasted.

This was our third time staying in Tina’s wonderful house in the centre of the pretty town of Duras. Plenty to do in town, and the surrounding area, so it is an excellent base for exploring this area of France.

The house feels very warm and welcoming, with everything you could need for any length of stay. We can certainly recommend it to anyone looking to visit France.
