Rob and I decided to move to France to have a quieter life and also so we could spend more time with our son, who was 1 at the time. We visited the Farm on a rainy day in January and fell in love with the buildings and the countryside straight away. If it looked this good in the winter imagine during the summer! We left the next day have bought the farm and have never looked back since. We now have 3 boys, some animals (!) and have settled well in to a lovely community.
|Year property purchased||2003|
|Why this location?||We are located in the middle of beautiful countryside yet you can cycle to the local town that has all the amenities we could ever need. It has easy access to the motorway and there are many historic places to visit within a short drive, 10 - 30 mins. We are just a 15 minute drive to many different beaches that are unspoilt and great for children, we love nothing better than picking our children up after school and heading off to the beach for a picnic. Throughout the year you can go out walking on the many coastal paths, that are equally stunning on a stormy winters day as on a sunny summers one.|
|Unique benefits of property||What's unique about our property, well I guess we are a little biased as we live here and love the area and the Breton people.... but we think that we have the perfect place as there is always something to do here, come rain or shine. We have lived here for 12 years now and never have a problem of finding something to do or somewhere to visit.
There are not many places that have historic towns, amazing natural beaches, rivers, some of the best seafood in France landed locally every day, play parks and all on your doorstep. In addition our Cottages are set in the middle of our land, so you have a 100 acres of forest, meadow, river and fields to explore, while at the same time feeling secure that your children can explore as we did when we were their age. Close by we have a cycle path on the old railway line that starts in Roscoff and goes all the way to Concarneau. You can hop on to the track in Rosporden.
But don't take our word for it read the reviews on our website.
Brittany is famous for it's unspoilt beaches and many are within an easy 15 minute drive from Keranmeriet. We have lived here for 12 years now and are still discovering beaches we haven't visited before!
Concarneau is a bustling fishing port (and Frances largest!) and is the best place to buy fresh seafood. There is an old walled town that hides narrow streets and historic houses. Only 15 minutes drive it makes a great place to try out local creperies that Brittany is famous for.
Pony trekking nearby. Free use of mountain bikes Canoes for hire.
Rosporden 2 minutes Pont-Aven 10 minutes Concarneau 15 minutes.
Pont-Aven, only 10 minutes away, is a beautiful town nestling along the banks of the Aven River with its ancient watermills. It was made famous by many artists, one of them being Paul Gaugin and you can now browse the many art galleries and shops.
Quimper lies on the River Odet and is the oldest city in France, well worth a visit, yet only 20 minutes drive away. The beautiful 13th-15th century cathedral has recently been renovated and has beautiful fretwork and stained glass windows. There are a myriad of shops and restaurants to explore, not to mention the many narrow streets.
Throughout the summer months there is a festival on pretty much every weekend and the bigger ones are on for a week to 10 days. There is always lots of dancing, good food (reasonably priced) and a well stocked bar with local cider! Some have fireworks, other have processions and others have dance and music displays and competitions. See our website for more details.
We have 100 acres of beautiful countryside on your doorstep for you to explore, one of the paths recently rediscovered dates from the war when the inhabitants of Concarneau were forbidden to take local wood, so had to travel by horse and cart to the countryside to make charcoal for their fires.
You can picnic by the small lake on the tables provided and spot some of the wildlife, Deer, Coypu, Wild Boar, hares, Kingfishers and Birds of Prey to name a few.
The Dairy was perfect, very comfortable and everything we needed was to hand. Rob and Erika made our stay even better,, we were not ready to leave after three weeks and will definitely return next year.
Lovely pool and gardens too!
There is much more to see in the area than we expected, and so many beautiful beaches close by, it felt like nowhere was too far which ever direction we chose.
Big thank you.
Dear Jane and Mike,
Thank you for you very kind comments and we are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay here. We look forward to seeing you both again soon.
Erika, Rob and family
We have been to the Dairy for a month for the past 5 years and you couldn't find a better home from home, or a better host and hostess than Rob and Erica. They always go above and beyond to ensure your stay is enjoyable and that you leave with happy memories. Although we enjoy visiting old haunts e.g. Concarneau, Benodet the beaches etc. we still find new places to go. This year it was The Valley of the saints (a must see).
On the odd occasion that the weather is bad it is still cosy sitting in the warmth of the Dairy watching the rain.
Owners were welcoming and helpful without being intrusive. Gite was as described and perfect for a couple. Swimming pool was added bonus. Easy access to beaches. Nearest town not particularly inviting though nice walk round lake. Pont Aven only 15 minutes away with good eating options and lovely setting. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful, relaxing break.
It was lovely to meet you both and we are happy that you enjoyed your holiday here. Thank you for your kind review and recommendations and we look forward to welcoming you back one day. With our best wishes, Erika and Rob
We had a really lovely week at the Dairy and both our children were extremely sad to leave. We used the pool every day and the house and pool were always really quiet in spite of their being other guests on the farm. The Dairy and its garden were not overlooked at all and the children loved being able to use the bikes, the play equipment and paddle in the nearby river. The guide in the house was very detailed and we easily found plenty to keep us all busy. Our hosts were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the area too. We quickly found our favourite beach, with very shallow water and rock pools for the children, and everywhere we went was within a 15 minute drive of the house. Supermarkets were 5 minutes away. The house was quiet, clean, well maintained and had everything we needed. We very much hope to return again in the future as we have plenty more to explore.
Thank you for taking the time out to post a review we really appreciate it and are happy to hear that you all had a lovely holiday. So pleased that you found everything met your needs and that you found plenty to do, Brittany really is a lovely place and it's great to hear when our Guests enjoy it as much as we do.
We do hope to see you all again one day. Best wishes, Erika and Rob
