Kerguelen gite is a large Breton farmhouse, built in the 1800s in the local granite stone. The house sits in a sunny sheltered south facing spot with its own large enclosed private lawned garden, with wild areas further away from the house, ideal for older children to explore.
The beautiful sandy Primel Beach is only 1km from the house, and even closer a small path winds down to arrive at Car Pont, a delightful little rocky cove only 800m from the house. There are in addition many fantastic natural beaches all within a few minutes drive of the house, all with excellent clear water, if a little cool for some.
The village of Plougasnou has all you will need in the way of shops; boulangerie, butchers, banks, pharmacys, cafes, restaurantes, and a delightful market on Tuesday mornings.
The house has a large kitchen/diner with table and seating for 14, and a living room with an open fire woodburner to enjoy the cooler nights. There are 5 spacious bedrooms, simply decorated, all equipped with lined curtains to ensure good lie-ins during our long bright summer days.

We thoroughly enjoyed the house, the sea, Finistère, even the weather was very nice, we thought. There were days we sat in the garden reading in the sun without any coats on. I'd say that's nice enough for this time of the year. We even went for a new years swim at Vilin Izella beach! I hope we didn't leave the house too messy. With the weather and all the kids running in and out of the house, it was hard to keep it decent. It truly is a great house in a great spot. We had no idea where we would end up exactly, as it was the first time in Bretagne for all of us, but it is definitely a place to come back to.
Many thanks for you lovely comment. I am glad you had a good time despite some very stormy weather, and a newyears swim sounds bracing. I know very well how inviting the water looks on a sunny day but much easier in summer. Hope to see you again one day. Philip
The house was fabulous, just what we needed for a break with extended family. The house was lovely and clean with lots of rustic charm. The kitchen was where we spent most of the time chatting and drinking wine as cooked and ate. The kids loved the huge garden too! Lovely beaches in the area, we visited quite a few despite the weather. We also visited a couple of relatively local swimming pools in Lannion and St Pol De Leon. The market in Plougasnou on a Tuesday morning is great for local produce, definitely worth a visit.
Many thanks for a lovely comment and recommend for kerguelen. I am glad you had such a great time despite some less than ideal weather. Philip
